Detailed Reviews
If you are nature lover you should consider staying here once. We group of 9 reached this homestay late night and dead tired after our Kumara Parvatha trek. We were treated with hot water, cosy rooms and delicious home cooked dinner served by the host himself on a plantain leaf. The stream next to the rooms sung lullaby through the night and accompanied by birds to wake us up in the morning. We could go round the areca nut plantation and see the workers in action. Got lot of information about the crop, labour, market etc from Mr. Kasinath during breakfast. idly made in banana leaf, a local specialty was served along with other items. We spent rest of our time till lunch in the stream and ended our stay with nice hot lunch before heading back to Bangalore.

We stayed at Stream of Joy for the weekend in Feb and I must say that this is an awesome private place to spend your time with family and friends. Mr Kashinath is very friendly and humble host. Very delicious pure vegetarian food was served. The main attraction here is the beautiful clean stream of water flowing gently by the cottages which is soothing for the mind. You can spend a whole lot of time by the stream. Just peaceful 😇

2 days stay at stream of Joy was a perfect delight ,away from the hustle to a calm peaceful ,totally private homely stay.
I would like to give all the credits to Mr Kashinath and his wife Mrs Kanchana for managing the place very well and great hospitality.
This place is ideal for kids especially , there is so much of learning from the nature , which we often miss from a busy town.
First event we enjoyed the walk around the Kapila river having great rock formation ,this claimed to be almost 10k years old. Next day we spent morning nature walk trying to figure out various kinds of birds.Bird watchers would love this place.Later half of the day we spent at the cottage next to shallow stream and a nice raft you can row. Then we went to fish feeding activity where kids enjoyed feeding 1000s of holy fishes a sack full of puffed rice.Went to couple of temples near by including Dharmasthala.
Through out our stay each meal , each dish was extremely yummy and we enjoyed the variety.
The place is worth the amount and is a must especially with kids.

I had been to this place with my sister's family and other 2 families. We stayed here for 3 days and I feel it wasn't enough because of the wonderful view, Kapila river flows right next to the rooms, super calm environment, hospitality they offer, yummy veg food they serve everything just feels right.
In fact, there were all the stuffs I love.. like doggies, cat, cows, the swing, the river, good food, good stay and what more could I ask for!
I just love this place and already waiting for the next visit!

Needed a short break, so 3 of us decided on a train journey upto Subramanya Rd jn. While looking around for accommodation, we came across an enticing picture of a homestay hut right by a river.. it turned out to be Stream of Joy and was luckily abt an hour’s drive from Subramanya Rd Jn.
Based on the reviews here, we booked an overnight stay. And it turned out to be the highlight of the trip. Mr Damle (the owner) is an extremely friendly & helpful person and gave us all requested info bfr the trip (incl contacts for a few taxi services upto his place).
The property is right by the kapila river and the acco for guests (incl dining area) are near the river. Its a short walk downhill from the car parking area. This path is made up of pebbles and stones (not concrete types) so during monsoons, one needs to be a bit careful.
Local food is served and is absolutely yummy. They were kind enough to arrange a late lunch for us (around 3 pm). During the meal, Mr Damle makes the effort to understand our interests and makes suggestions accordingly. He is an avid bird- watcher himself so we got to go on a bird watching trip. He also took us to a nearby temple as well as a waterfall.
Btw, there are a few very small areas where the internet is not available - this left us both annoyed & amused to realize just how addicted we are to google & the various apps.
In short, we were just looking for a place amidst nature to chill - we got not only that but also super yummy food, a very friendly and accommodative host , and a cpl of nearby places of interest.
Definitely on teh repeat list.

+1
Just back from Stream of Joy, Dharmasthla....and boy, we are DELIGHTED with the whole experience!!! Okay....let me ramble.........this is a simple family-run homestay, having 4 cottages with a fantastic view of river Kapila, a tributary of river Nethravathy. One of the nicest parts is - you don't get to see broken bottles, plastic, and other litter that one usually gets to see in many other natural places like waterfalls or rivers. Kudos to the owner Mr. Kashinath for keeping this place as natural as it is and litter-free (more about him later...).
The cottages themselves are cute-looking, basic and comfortable - but who wants to stay inside when there is so much to do and see outside??? There is a very small pyol in front of each cottage with a bench to sit on and watch the river....the sounds of the gurgling water are very comforting and one never really tires of it. Not for a moment!
The food - cooked by the lovely Mrs. Kashinath - is vegetarian, healthy, steaming hot, wholesome, and some items were new to us. For example, a different form of ganji - rice cooked in coconut milk, potato halwa, ashgourd halwa, and idlis steamed in banana leaf! There was also the familiar charu - it felt so good to eat homemade healthy food that gives you no gastric issues. Nothing was too spicy or oily. We LOVED the small-mango pickle that they served us with ganji and curd rice.
The cottages are set down in their estate and one has to go down some steps to reach the cottages and the stream, which could pose a problem for tiny tots, older people, or those with any kind of ankle or knee issues. Otherwise, the location of the cottages, right on the riverside, ensures peace and quiet. Fortunately, there is no TV in the rooms, but they have one in the common dining room if you wish to catch up with news or have your kids eat watching cartoons.
There is no room service by phone as such, but each room has an interesting little bamboo drum that you can beat and make a noise with, to attract the attention of Ramesh, the young man who takes care of all the little-little things. Beat the drum and Ramesh will come running....
Things to do:
1] Visit Shishila at 10 km from the homestay - there is a nice Shiva temple and fish feeding river spot - thousands of mahseer fish are here and you can feed them puffed rice. You also get to walk on a hanging bridge. (see photos)
2] Visit the village for some interesting colored and shiny pebbles - especially if you're interested in geology or pebble collecting.
3] Visit Dharmasthala temple - about 25 km from the homestay.
4] Visit Kukke Subrahmanya and Adi Subrahmanya temples - about 40 km from the homestay.
5] A secret waterfall and gorge that Mr. Kashinath will take you to, on the Dharmasthala road. Here you can see some very interesting rock formations that appear like hooded snakes (Adi Sesha look-alikes). This place is a must-see - but be careful and follow Mr. Kashinath's instructions to the T. Don't get too adventurous. (see photos)
6] An open air cute Ganesha temple in the village....with hundreds of brass bells of all shapes and sizes tied all over the place. (see photos)
7] There is a beautiful viewpoint from Mr. Kashinath's rubber plantation - you can walk to that place, it is about 1 km from the homestay.
8] Laze on the bamboo raft....if you're a swimmer, you can swim in the clean stream water too! This bamboo raft is almost the USP of this place! (see photos)
Ideally, 3-4 days should be fine to cover all of the above.
They do not serve alcohol or non-vegetarian food. It is a safe and decent place for families or girl-gangs.
Enroute, Sakleshpur with its winding roads, the hills and dales, is unbelievably beautiful (see photos). The road after Sakleshpur town is bad in patches, but motorable. Especially on the onward journey, one might want to stop at many locations to click photographs and just to sit and enjoy the natural scenery.
Finally, a few words about the owner Mr. Kashinath - we found him to be a very hands-on, caring host who gives a lot of care and attention to his guests. He personally serves the hot-hot home-made food which makes dining a very happy experience. Being a native of this place, he is an authority on this place and regales you with his knowledge and experience. He is the go-to person for any directions you may need during your stay at Stream of Joy. This gentleman is selfless and tireless in his service and attention to guests. Barring Dharmasthala and Kukke temples, he personally took us to the other places around the homestay.
We highly recommend Stream of Joy to folks who love nature, simplicity, and serenity. Much gratitude and appreciation to Mr. and Mrs. Kashinath for their superb hospitality.

This place is amazing if you wish to enjoy the flavor of malnad. For decent families willing to spend quality time, this place is fabulous. Not meant for boozing and non veg though, food is amazing. The estate owner is very hospital and nice. The fish in the river are friendly and are in millions.

This place is a very nice getaway from the noisy daily routine life. Cottages being next to the river you constantly hear the stream flowing. Morning is simply beautiful. Every morning a very sweet whistling sound of a bird wakes you up. You will fall in love with simple yet delicious food. Mr. Kashinath is a very good person and we appreciate his great hospitality. Bird Watching was a very good experience. Bamboo shafting, fish feeding, and many other activities to do. This place is for nature lovers
