A resort situated near the backwaters of alleppey gives you a sudden excitement. Especially when you don't want to get stuck up in a house-boat for the whole day. If you ignore everything- the location and the resorts both are decently good.

Only two rooms had closed bathrooms, rest have open bathrooms, so if you are not comfortable with the idea of open bathrooms please clear it in advance. Though rest of the place with open bathrooms looked secure and private- so no danger ahead.

There seemed no concept of room service, we had to rush to the reception area to ask for the things we needed. Food was okay- not very great! You have to tell in advance how much exactly you are going to eat before dining there, which seemed a little odd. They will try to make you eat the extra if you have asked for more, and they will run out of stock if you place order without prior notice.

Some construction is going on there, which is ruining the whole look of the place since they are expanding. I hope they get over with it soon. Rest they have a stoppage right in the front of resorts, from where, if you have booked a 'Shikara', it will pick you up.
Mister Mohan was the most reasonable and friendly Shikara driver we came across there. He offered far better rates than Kerala Tourism. You can contact him here: 09544999674

It was an awesome experience to stay at Palmgrove Lake Resort. Very good service by Mr. Uday(care taker) with a smile. He guides you through everything about Alleppey. Very good view and location of the resort. Food is awesome too. Just a cupboard/wardrobe is missing from the room otherwise everything is fine.

The resort is about 10 mins drive to main centre by auto. The hotel is located by alleypey back water, beautiful & peaceful location to enjoy. The staff at the hotel were very helpful (Ben, Udday) including the owner Abraham, by organizing our trips (taxi, auto, boat trip, massage). Food and breakfast at the hotel were nice, fish curry prepared by Udday was very tasty. Will definetely recommend to any friends and also planning to revisit again.

We stayed there on 28th & 29th January 2014 ina Premium Lake View Room. Excellent location on the lake. In fact the property walks into the waterfront. The cook Uday made us lunch and dinner which were out of this world. The owner of the resort would come everyday and enquire about our needs. It is more of a stay in a freind's farm house rather than a resort. Dont look for waiters or room boys running at the call of a bell. Here this happen as if you are looking for your domestic help. But all in all I would revisit the place when ever I am in Alleppy

We stayed here on 25 Dec 2013.It is more like home stay then hotel, very
friendly staff. Specially Uday cooked good veg items according to our test, special thanks to him.

Hotel is located on famous water way. You just seat outside your room or at restaurant and see house boats...its amazing experience.Great place if you

just want to relax for 2-3 days, don't need to go anywhere in city!! This hotel has much potential if developed.

Some negative side - not sufficient staff, difficult to locate. They should have provided at least water in rooms, we were needed to call staff and get it.

If you are planning to this place, take mosquito cream with you or use mosquito net provided by hotel.

Over all very homely environment and good place to relax.I wish to come here

again some time in future.

We booked in for one night as it was a bit above our budget, but then we liked the place so much we stayed 4 nights. The location is a little out of town but in a beautiful well kept site right by one of the famous canals. We had a lovely chalet with inside and outside shower, canal views and air con. There was hot water (not always available in other places we stayed), but no wifi....
We recommend the hotel's resident canoe trip as it gets you off the beaten track, where we saw Kingfishers and were not in a long traffic jam of motor powered spice boats. One highlight was the fireflies seen from the chalets verandah at night. A trip into town was cheap and a delight, the hotel has a favourite tuktuk (driven by TUKTUKMAN ) , recommended for an evening trip to see sunset on the beach with a beer or two after. Tuktukman will wait for you.....
Staff were great, breakfast pleasant in a semi outdoor location, coffee, omelette and watch the boats go by.....

We chose Palmgrove Lake Resort because of the good reviews on Tripadvisor. The place itself is really nicely located right by the water. On the first sight our bungalow looked nice, the idea of an (partly) openair bathroom is cool!

But!
- The floor was still full of hair and sand. We ended up cleaning it by ourselves...
- Later on we found the source of the bad smell in the room (first we thought it was just because of the closed windows): the mattress! The provided solution from the staff was a fresh air spray and an extra bed sheet. They also gave us the option to change to another bungalow which smelled even worse. During the night I couldn't sleep at all because of the smell!
Next morning, we talked to the owner who came to our bungalow for an inspection. His solution was not really helpful (to change the mattress with another old mattress). It didn't seem that he cared at all... we told him that he might need to buy new mattresses.

We planned to stay for 5 nights, but after the first night we decided to leave. We are low budget travellers and used to Indian standard. Normally we don't like to complain, but for that price this was not acceptable.

The place itself is ok with basic cottages in a nice location by the water, however they were not particularly clean and probably a little expensive for what they are, although the price is negotiable like everything in India.
My main gripe, and I do accept some responsibility for not organising myself, is their choice of houseboat and tour. The boat was filthy with a menagerie of critters to keep you company from cockroaches and rats to mosquitoes and spiders. Is it too much to ask for a mossie net? The trip itself was nothing short of a sham. We pootled for an hour moored up for two then pootled for another hour before mooring up for 15 hours overnight, unbeknownst to us, 2 mins chug from palm grove resort.
Given we were in a huge convoy for the most part I suspect this is what happens to the majority of all houseboat trips but I for one felt utterly ripped off and unsatisfied with the whole experience.

Response from philipabraham, Owner at Palmgrove Lake Resort
Responded 14 Nov 2013
We deeply apologise for the condition of the houseboat. This is our first such instance and we enquired with our houseboat agent. He said that the houseboat booked for you had a breakdown and due to high demand during that period, this was the only houseboat he could arrange. This is not an excuse and we have changed our houseboat agent after this occurrence. We once again apologise for the inconvenience caused.

I really needed to stay at a peaceful resort at this point in my trip. Palm Grove really fit the bill. It is a "no frills" place, so you cannot go into it thinking that you will get five star treatment. It is more about unwinding and enjoying the backwater life and disconnecting for a couple of days.
My only complaint is that the mattresses were not comfortable. If they could be upgraded, then it would be perfect. I felt a little like I was camping here.
The food was average, but that is fine. It was hygenic and I did not get sick.

We had a very enjoyable stay here.
Our room was comfortable, with attractive furniture. We had a non-air conditioned room which did get a little bit too warm at night. We had a large outdoor bathroom area and a nice terrace with comfortable seats and views of the backwaters.

The outdoor areas were pretty and very quiet and we were not disturbed by the nearby boatyard that other readers have commented on.

The lunchtime food we had there was very tasty and good value. The breakfast was average.

The owner/manager was friendly and helpful with arranging an early morning rickshaw for getting us to the train station.

Hi, do you have a pool? Thanks

Sorry we won't have have pool facility in our property but our resort is located in the bank of punnamada Lake

In continuation to above...... For boat Ride (Sikara Boat), you have to pay on hourly basis (available only during day time), i.e Rs.400/- per hour. Best timing is early morning 6-00 A.M. to 9-00 A.M. If you want to continue, better break the journey and go for another ride from 4-00 P.M. to 6-00 P.M. Palmgrove resort is the decent place to stay in terms of availability of better food, location-wise away from concrete jungle and can enjoy nature, safe & secure place.

Do the property has airport pick up and drop facilities? Do they have boat ride facility?
Answer from Suresh
Bengaluru, India2 contributions
If you request in advance, they will arrange a cab for airport pick up and drop from Cochin Airport, on additional charge. They do arrange for Shikara ( semi Covered Canoe with comfortable chairs and a bed) boat rides, which come to the resort dock and pick you up. If you need a houseboat ride, that also can be arranged.
