Emerald isle was fun for us in that my wife loved the cooking class. Met both brothers and some other family members. Excellent hosts and we had a really pleasant evening with other guests and the village folk singers.

This homestay really lives up to its billing and the excellent reviews are thoroughly justified. I can't fault the wonderful and friendly staff; the tasty and varied food; the quirky but beautiful room; nor the idyllic setting. The owners are confident and charming and are obviously very good at what they do. It is the small things liked providing bikes...

A lovely homestay. Arrival by boat was a real adventure and everything about this villa is charming and the bedroom in the grain store was fabulous. A cycle ride into the local visit is well worth doing. Good food, welcoming staff, and a lovely villa. - what more could you ask for?

Stayed in the garden cottage in this lovely heritage family building on an island within the backwaters. The owner and his team are very attentive and try their best to help and be flexible. Do take the 2 hour boat trip into the small channels of the waters- you can get into narrow channels which the big rice barges cannot...

I stayed here for 2 days and it was the best and the warmest welcome through all my travel in India. The staff is doing everything to make you feel welcomed and cared for, and thet succeed. This property has only several rooms. All the guests had breakfast, lunches and dinners together (they serve traditional Indian food), so there is...

Staff fully helpful. Lunch and dinner well done. Rooms are clean, and shower outside is wonderfull. Fishing is possible and amazing to do with children and just a wood branch and a simple hook. Walk around the place is easy and you can see real day life on backwaters. Thanks a lot to the team for this day and night...

This ancestral house has been done up with meticulous care, keeping original features whilst offering modern facilities - and the bathrooms are simply amazing. The food was great. Outside temperature was too hot for my own liking, but the beauty and comfort of the place made it all entirely bearable, even enjoyable. It was quite expensive for a homestay, but...

Emerald Isle the Heritage Villa is a beautiful oasis located in the backwaters of Alleppey. The building itself is magnificent and very well kept. Unfortunately we only stayed one night, but will definitely come back and stay longer. Our two children also enjoyed the whole experience of staying at Emerald Isle, especially the two hours boat ride among the small...

We arrived by kayak and were given a welcome drink and greeting from the brothers who own the home. Our rooms had big solid doors, large beds and outdoor showers. We were treated to cooking lessons, a tour of the property with its many fruit and spice trees, and several cultural presentations. Enjoyed lounging on the front porch and in...

To stay in such a home is a real privilege. The building is beautiful and Tom and Sam could not have worked harder to ensure our stay was interesting and relaxing. We took bikes out one day (complimentary) and cycled the whole (flat) island, stopping and chatting to folk and enjoying a different way of exploring Keralan life. Meals were...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In the beautiful waterways and backwaters of the Kuttanad region of Central Kerala lies Emerald Isle, an exotic haven of tranquility, seemingly remote from city life, yet barely 10 kilometers from Alleppey Town. Tucked away on this delightful island lies the Emerald Isle Heritage Villa, an ancestral Country House set in 9 acres of secluded grounds – your Retreat into a Paradise of Peace. Emerald Isle Heritage Home is situated in an island resplendent with exotic flora, breathtaking flowers, myriad birds and butterflies to make for a memorable holiday, affordable and unforgettable. A truly wonderful way to spend your time on the banks of the backwaters of Kerala! Our house, dating back 150 years, retains its original architectural features, mostly in teak, with splendid wood carvings. There is also a fine Ara, the timber storeroom used in former times for the golden harvest of rice – golden because the island’s lush green paddy fields turn gold at the time of the harvest. Our property stretches across 9 acres including lush green paddy fields and fish ponds. All meals are served in dining room. Please ask us if you want to have any special facilities like Ayurvedic treatments or houseboat rides. Emerald Isle is ideal for those wanting to relax, sun themselves or getting away from it all. The tranquil air here is salve to frayed nerves and everyday tensions. Read a book or taste the locally harvested ’toddy’ fresh from the coconut trees ! When you tire of lazing in a hammock, or sunbathing in the courtyard garden, you can take a walk around the island, go fishing or have a swim. Emerald Isle Heritage Villa offers peace, privacy and pure relaxation. There are only 5 rooms (All Air-conditioned) for guests and each has its own en-suite Open-Shower bathroom with all modern facilities. The en-suite bathrooms have been tastefully done and open to the sky above to give you a feel of being truly closer to nature at Emerald Isle! ... more   less
