Used homestay for the first time and was skeptical. But as soon as we reached venice castle from kovalam after a long taxi journey suffering from travel sickness, the hostess Binu was so welcoming ,felt like home. The room on the first floor was clean, comfortable ,good ac. Bathroom was clean with good hotwater. Morning breakfast was good both traditional dishes and toast and eggs.Akil always there to look after your needs and Mary the grandmother incharge of kitchen very helpful.would recommend venice castle to anyone who would love to stay In homely atmosphere.
In February we stayed here for 2 nights, and we loved every minute of it. We had two big, airy and spotlessly clean rooms with comfy beds, proper blankets and white linen. The bathrooms were big, had hot water and fluffy, white towels. Breakfast was served in the main building and was really delicious. The owners, Binu and her cheerful and friendly family as well as the smiling and witty grandmother, made our stay a full success. Should we ever return to Alleppey, this is the place where we will go! This homestay really is a first-class place, and it is within walking distance to the boat jetty, a "wine and beer shop" (!) and the center.
I only stayed here for one night after my overnight houseboat trip and was up very early to go back to the airport the next day but for the few short hours I was here I was the perfect place to be. Nothing was too much trouble. I was offered breakfast when I arrived even though breakfast had finished and even though I was up at 4.30am I was still offered tea and toast. There is real family atmosphere here with all generations helping out. The real added bonus is the 8 week old Labrador puppies they have ..... adorable. My hosts also helped me arrange a sunset Kayak tour of the backwaters which is probably my favourite thing I did in Kerala. I definite must place to stay if passing through Alleppey.
Stayed two nights at this clean, comfortable home. Excellent home cooked breakfast served by humble family members. Except for difficulty in locating the home (sign board on cross street was missing because of construction of a new wall), we enjoyed our stay at Venice Castle.
I left yesterday and loved it. Yes the rooms are basic but they’re very clean, the AC worked well and was super quiet, the water was hot and the flush on the toilet was the most powerful flush ever! The location is good, just a few hundred metres from the bus station and the starting point of the Kollam public ferry. But what stands this above is the service. They’re all just SO lovely. Nothing is too much trouble. When I left Akil got a tuk tuk for me, came with me to the ferry, carried my rucksack. Paid for the rickshaw, spoke to the ferry captain for advice on my onward journey to Varkala; put my bag onboard and then gave me a hug and refused a tip!!! I mean - seriously, that’s what they’re all like. Grandma gets involved with the lovely breakfast and the food is damn good and Binu was super helpful organizing a shikara for me (6 & 1/2 hours is enough IMO) They’re lovely people and deserve your business. Go! …
