We stayed with Chacko and his family for 2 nights in their homestay and it was the best way of really experiencing the backwaters. The 3 beautiful and clean rooms are located in a separate house, just beside the family house. Meals are taken in the family house and Chacko and his wife are always around in the evening at...

Chacko and his family were really nice hosts. We really enjoyed our night & day at Nelpura. The food was fantastic, the staff were only too pleased to help, the rooms were clean and tidy and the village/location was very pleasant. We took some time to explore the local area on the bikes leant to us by the family. As...

We stayed in Nelpura for two nights and had a lovely time. Chacko is a great host and made us feel very welcome. We had heard that some home stays are too commercialised but this is definitely not the case with Nelpura. We borrowed bikes and explored the village, had a massage and took a cooking class with Chacko and...

Our stay at Nelpura home stay was our first taste of India, and it was extremely welcoming. The family went out of their way whenever they could to help my family and I. The proximity to a small village and the connection that they gave us to a local primary school allowed us to have a taste of everyday life...

Arriving by boat was very calming and pretty special. Our hosts were very welcoming and helped us to explore the area including by bike, the sunset boat ride was also a good experience and the best way to see and understand the local community at work and play - much more interesting than the larger boat rides. The food was...

Tranquility - the one word that we think best describes Nelpura. We - a family of 5 (2 Adults aged 52, 2 Teenagers 17 and 19 and a grandfather aged 88) spent 3 nights here - enjoying every minute of our stay. The canoe rides arranged by the owners both in the evening and early in the morning were the...

It really is special and gorgeous. I've stayed several places in the area, and this is strongly recommended. The room is gorgeous as is the ride on the boat. Family not as warm as people describe and the price point for these parts is very, very high, but I'd say it's worth it.

This backwater home is in a perfect spot for a relaxing couple of days just off the main river bank area. We opted to stay here and spend an evening cruising the backwaters on a motor launch - helpfully arranged by our host Prof Chacko. We suspect that this offered as much of an experience of backwater cruising as many...

The first part of this memorable stay was the trip by the homestay's own canoe, a great introduction to the backwaters, to see real life on the system of small streams and canals. The homestay is situated in the peaceful village of Moncombu, near Alappuzha, Kerala. The hosts Chacko and his wife, Salimma are charming and very welcoming. The accommodation...
