We stay here for 2 nights. The building you stay in is full of character and the location, next to a small back water, is amazing. Great local walking with a map provided, allowing you to meet local people. Bikes also if you want a ride. Mr Chako and his wife were really welcoming and we were were beautifully catered for by the family and housekeeper, Manjula. We got to visit a local primary school, go on a village walk and were taken by Mr Chako to see his paddy fields, which was fascinating. Do go on the evening canoe trip along small and large waterways. A great way to see how people live there live in this very special area of Kerala. Very many thanks, Bill and Justine Foster, Gloucestershire, UK
Charming hosts and staff welcome you to this 3 guest room Homestay on the Kerala backwaters. We arrived quite early in morning in a wooden canoe and provided with fresh lime juice while we waited for our room to be prepared. The guest house is surrounded by a covered verandah with fans, chairs and beds to relax. The garden also has 2 hammocks for guest use. One chooses a Homestay on backwaters if one wants to better experience the tranquility of the place and to, some extent, the culture and life. Nelpura is well situated to wander along by the canals and watch everyday life by the water - everything seems to get washed in the canals - clothes , kitchen pots, plates and bodies! Children going to and from school, locals meeting to chat, people going to work and, of course, the rice fields. There is a lot of water bird life to observe as well, so it makes for a relaxing time. Perhaps a key reason to choose a Homestay is to sample authentic Keralan cooking and Nelpura certainly delivers on this one! Every lunch and dinner we had was delicious , a variety of sauces flavoured different vegetables , fish and meat dishes. The only reason not to give this five stars is a mosquito problem at the time we were there. We were provided with plug in repellants and a wonderful “electric bat” it kill the pests, which reduced numbers but the source of problem was only identified on our last night. I would highly recommend this particular Homestay if you want to get closer to the culture of the backwaters and to experience real keralan cooking - you will be welcomed and looked after.…
We stayed for three nights and enjoyed great hospitality. The accommodation is comfortable and the food excellent. Being on the side of the canal allowed us to see Keralan life close up. Dr Chacko arranged activities for us including a school visit and a sunset cruise in a motorised canoe. He also kindly took us to his rice paddies and gave us many interesting explanations of local life and culture. This is a great homestay experience.
Absolutely wonderful place! The house is located in a very good location, however, you can rest here from the hustle and bustle of the street. A wonderful garden, Delicious breakfasts, fresh fruit juices, the smell of incense, birds singing and absolute cleanliness throughout the house made us feel at home there and it was a pity to leave! thanks to such places, traveling takes on a different dimension.
Nelpura homestay is situated in Kottayam, rice bowl of India. The place is so peaceful and gives you a feel of Kerala life and culture. Dr. Chacko is an amazing host, he arranged his personal boat ride for us which was so nice of him. We were served some delicious home-cooked Kerala cuisines, which really makes me wishing to go back there once more. there’s a lot of fish farms that you can see, I also saw turtles just walking on streets just like that. Great stay, would strongly recommend !!!
