My wife and two of our teenage children enjoyed a return visit to JiJi John's home stay. Our experience was even better than our first time seven years back. No big sights or pressure to do anything, just simple trips around the place for a massage or a boat ride, although the "stay back" option was always popular too! We all swam in the river and my son fished all day long, even catching a plate size karimeen. JiJi's wife Dhisha cooks an amazing variety of foods each day and happily had me hang over her shoulder one evening in her kitchen. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a simple but perfect experience Ina five star location.

A gorgeous location right on the river, what a treat to wake up and watch the sunrise in this peaceful location. A great place to write and relax and watch the houseboats go by. Delicious home cooked Keralan food. Just the right amount of attention from your host Mr Jiji and his wife, and good clean room, gorgeous garden and delightful neighborhood strolls to local villages easy to find with Mr. Jiji's map. Would have liked to stay longer here. ... perhaps next year I'll return for the Krishna temple festival!

We have been to Riverside several times & it has always been brilliant. Jiji & Jisha have had the new rooms upgraded. They are spotless - and there is now air-con!! The food, as always , is excellent, the position wonderful & the service superb. If you want peace & tranquillity, this is the place. Jiji can also arrange canoe trips & ayuvedic massages. We hope to be back next year -again!

The drawcard of this homestay is its excellent position so close to the river. This is what you want the experience of Alleppey to be all about. From the small porch of the cottage I stayed in I watched the life of the river roll by from the houseboat processions in the early morning to the regular ferrying of people on canoes throughout the day. It is extremely relaxing to sit all day long watching the river and enjoying the pretty garden with all its tropical flowers and plants. The owner is very helpful and organised a boat trip for my husband and I. We asked him at the last minute and he quickly organised a trip on a simple non-motorised boat. We meandered along the main river for 5 hours and enjoyed a lovely sunset. There are not many small canals up this end so if you

The Riverside Retreat justifies its name. Located on the banks of the Pamba River and other exotic backwaters, it really provides a retreat to the olden golden days. It not located in the proper heart of the city, you may have to take two or three adjoining winding roads to reach the hotel, but it’s worth the trouble. On our Kerala tour to Munnar, thekkady, kovalam, alleppey , we had never imagined to land on a place like this.It ws a good tour with things being professionally managed and good staffs at all hotels & riverside retereat being no exception.Full marks to Antilog Vacations ( our tour operator) as well for arranging a good tour without overcharging The time you spend inside the resort is total bliss. I had a gala time amidst the hammocks with the book I was reading.

If somebody has time in their hand, then this place is a MUST...Reaching the place itself is an adventure as it is in a complete remote village, though the rickshaw can comfortably take u...Thats the best part of this place...complete isolation...Just u and the nature...Complete bliss n peace Great food...U will never blame me for this review...Enjoy ur trip

The atmosphere at the riverside retreat is all about calm and relaxation. The bungalows are clean and big. You get a little terrasse in front of your door and quite a unique access to the river. Amazing view on the kanus and fishermen passing by slowly on carried by the stream. Jiji and his wife are very nice and helpfull. The food is amazing... We recommend this place ***** You should definitely try the kanu trip to a near town in the afternoon. Greeat paddling experience and amazing sunset on the river. Worthwile going it. Don't miss the nearby temple (45min walk), a very nice place to go and relax or meditate next to the living elephant... Jiji helped us to book a houseboat with his friend Thomas, but that was not so great... The boat was really in bad shape and quite dirty

Jiji's homestay was a perfect start to our holiday. As someone who has visited India many times I genuinely think this is one of the best homestays I have had the pleasure of visiting. The accommodation, while basic, is all you really need - what's important is the setting! Our cottage overlooked the backwaters and was spectacular. The food was great and Jiji was incredibly helpful in providing us with a local map which meant we were able to explore the local sites and villages at our leisure. Everyone was very friendly in the local area and I'd highly recommend this homestay. We stayed for two nights - I'd recommend three or maybe four.

I was the only guest there at the time i stayed. The owner-Jiji and his family welcomed me and made me feel at home. What a great location right on the river bank. The best sunrise at the view just in front of the bungalows. Jisha (Jiji's wife) is an excellent cook. She managed to serve a variety of local home cook meals to your request. Just loved it and highly recommended. One thing, if you are going by train, do not get off at Alleppey, get off the next stop called "Ambalapuzha". You can save yourself a lot on Auto-rickshaw. Price from Alleppey Rs. 250 from Ambalapuzha Rs. 80. i learned the expensive way ;"(
