Sanctuary Swala, led by Devin and Terry, can only be described as the penultimate experience in the Tarangire National Park. Ours started at the Kuro airstrip, about 80 minutes away from the camp, when we were picked up by Samuel "Sammy" Mshana, a true ambassador for not only Swala, the Tarangire, but for Tanzania as well. We took a 2...

Sanctuary Swala Camp was one of the hotels we stayed at during our honeymoon. It is a beautiful eco-friendly hotel located in a "less traveled" part of the Tarangire National Park. Besides the spectacular activities already included (game drives, bush picnics and dinning under the african skies) it is the perfect choice for an exclusive "sitting safari" experience. By sitting...

Swala is definitely a magical place situated in the heart of Tarangire National Park. The resort itself consists of dining area, lounging area, pool, and then the individual cabins themselves. These " cabins" are really luxurious rooms with indoor/outdoor showers, sitting areas, and enclosed verandas. It is a beautiful location where you can watch the wildlife go by as far...

Just returned from staying at this location. Beautiful, up to date modern location out in "no man's land"! The wildlife is amazing and the scenario is unbelievable. I would give them 5 stars, but I wonder at this Luxury resort why they don't have WiFi in the dining area. Apparently they did at one time, but why not have the...

As a repeat visitor to Swala there isn’t anything to fault. Stunning!! It is a truly special place. We were welcomed by Devon & Tarry who you immediately take a wonderful liking and fascination to. The main area is split into two sides with the restaurant and the lounge/bar on the other. Split by a huge ancient Baobab tree. The...

I spent a night in Swala with a few friends and I was totally blown away. The staff were friendly, the managers were great, the tents were private and comfortable, the location is unbeatable. This is really Africa at it best. If I can make one recommendation to travelers, stay at least 2 plus nights so that you can really...

This tented camp was our favorite of the 3 we lodged at during our recent Tanzanian safari. The property is beautifully done with functional simplicity and spectacular views. Plus, you have all the necessary mod cons - indoor plumbing, Wi-Fi, & a ceiling fan to keep you cool. There are few places in the world where you can enjoy a...

A terrific experience in Tarangire National Park - individual sturdy protected tents provide all the luxury of a fine hotel. You feel alone with nature sitting out on your porch enjoying the sites and sounds of the area. A wonderful staff and management that anticipate your needs - great breakfast and organic food, drinks and attention. Having a watering hole...

An incredible experience within the remoteness of Tarangire National Park! Our hosts Tarry & Devon along with the manager, Raymond, created a friendly and relaxed environment to enjoy the local wildlife and natural setting. Everything about the "camp" is amazing from the food, the service and the closeness to the animals. It truly was a wonderful way to have a...

It is indeed a sanctuary and the couple that manages it, Tarry and Devon, are very welcoming. Wonderful tents, which were actually permanent structures, and seemed luxurious after the temporary camps in e Serengeti. Zebras lounged in the pond in front of the tents. Great food and very nice dining area and bar. We stayed here at the end of...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The main area is situated right under a big baobab tree, a common sight in these parts of Tanzania. The dining area, lounge, deck and small library all feature a chic, contemporary African design with a traditional thatched roof. This main area is lifted on stilts allowing a wide view of the grasslands of the Tarangire right in front of the camp. The stunning infinity pool overlooks the nearby waterhole often visited by elephants as well as the big cats that are often seen. The relaxing pool area also provides the perfect place to sip a cocktail and cool down after a day of game viewing. Sanctuary Swala has been renovated to the highest eco- friendly standards and has a particularly low carbon footprint. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in the main area and in guests' tents. Each of the twelve canvas pavilions is shaded by tall acacia trees and all are within sight of the well frequented water hole. They are unashamedly luxurious and exquisitely furnished but still close enough to nature to permit an exciting night under canvas. The tents feature a spacious open plan arrangement with comfortable king or twin beds, campaign chairs and plush sofas and boasts an ensuite bathroom with both indoor and outdoor shower for that extra bit of luxury. Sip cocktails or enjoy scrumptious dinners on your own private veranda and watch the waterhole which regularly draws lions, leopards and resident bull elephants while your own personal attendant caters for your every need. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in guests' tents. ... more   less
