I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy the history of the Zulu battlefields, but a morning at Isandlwana was just fascinating. I stayed at the guest house but also visited the lodge as I was checking out both properties for the travel company I work for. Both places are welcoming and well managed with comfortable, well-appointed rooms and friendly...

the historical background of the area in and around Fugitive's Drift is the main reason to visit, and is wonderfully delivered, the bonus is the extremely comfortable and welcoming lodge with delicious food and delightful staff

Maybe a slightly odd visit on a honeymoon, but I'm lucky enough to have a wife that indulges me! From the moment we arrived at the lodge we were made to feel very much welcome and at home. The location is breathtaking and you can feel the history. Our cottage was spacious with an amazing view. Beautiful outdoor terrace. Shower...

An incredible piece of British and Zulu history told by some equally impressive story tellers in Doug and Mphiwa. Their detail and theatrics at Both Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift had everyone enthralled - hard to believe they do it every day! The accommodation was great; an open fire overlooking the bushveld before dinner with some top shelf hors d'oeuvres and...

Spacious and comfortable rooms, mouth watering meals and spectacular surroundings, but what makes this lodge truly special is the atmosphere, the evident care, attention to detail and passionate interest of all in the local history. The interaction of owners, management and staff with guests makes for a truly unforgettable experience. Probably the best experience I have at a lodge in...

This place is just wonderful. The location is fantastic - as close to the battlefields as you can get. The staff there are warm, friendly and super-hospitable. The rooms are lovely - a bit quirky and really comfortable. The food is amazing - from the pre-dinner snacks, to the desserts (pavlova - mmm). And the tours are simply fantastic. Both...

I am ashamed to admit that I had never heard of the lodge & its history until family visiting from the UK booked a fleeting visit. What an absolute gem. Its position is breathtakingly beautiful but surpassing this is the warmth which you feel from every staff member there, from Shane at reception to Mandla who took us on our...

This was one of the major highlights of our trip to South Africa. The location of the the hotel is absolutely brilliant - overlooking the Buffalo River and within sight of Isandlwana. We were made to feel very welcome and our room was lovely. The grounds are really nice and it's a lovely walk from the main lodge/dining room to...

We were staying in the Umzinyathi House, which has been modernised to a very high level of comfort. Our party of six took all our meals at the Lodge but were able to make use the house as if it was our own. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable. I have been guided at the battlefields many times over the...

The overall experience at the lodge was amazing. From our arrival we were so well looked after and were made to feel a part of the family. The battlefield tours were a revelation and the story telling was both sublime and very moving. Thanks to all at Fugitives' Drift for making our four days so very special - an unforgettable...
