Ever since the film Zulu have I wanted to do to where the battles took place and Fugitives Drift is the centre of all the happenings. It is run by the Rattrays and David (who was killed some years ago) has left it in the capable hands of his two sons Andrew and Douglas who both take after their father...

Like so many other reviewers, we have only the highest praise for Fugitives Drift. We spent three nights in the Guest House in early February, and found the Battlefield tours of Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift to be outstanding, with the most moving of descriptions by passionate and knowledgeable guides. We also did one of the self guided walks to Great...

We recently spent 2 nights at the Guest House and loved every minute, 3 would have been better in hindsight giving us a little more time to relax in the beautiful surroundings. We arrived at lunchtime and went immediately on a tour of Rourke's Drift battlefields. Our knowledge at that point was purely from the film Zulu ..... this was...

I was fortunate to spend three magical nights at the Lodge, the exhilarating drive from Maritzburg was stunning, over mountain roads, incredible journey to a very remote beautiful location. Loved the note I was given at the gate welcoming me to the reserve, lovely thoughtful touch. I was in room two which is recently renovated, spacious, spotlessly clean and very...

The Fugitives Drift Lodge is something very very special. I have a interest in military history and waited years / decades to visit the Zulu War battlefields. Worth the wait! The accommodation was fantastic, food great but it's the passion for history that sets this place and its staff apart. They love it, they live it. Their storytelling as we...

1879 is now permanently etched in my memory having now visited you . It really is a must as it is part of the make up of both the UK and South Africa's history . Beautifully delivered lectures with first hand accounts from both sides emotionally delivered but with respect for each other in battle . A definite for history...

Absolutely loved it!! Spent 2 nights and chased up the gravel tracks from the Drackensbergs to get there (there is an easier route further North that we took back to Durban). Food and lodge were great, convivial mealtimes chatting to other guests, all the staff were polite, the 'gappies' charming and the guides a wealth of knowledge and passion. The...

We had the pleasure of staying at this memorable lodge for 3 nights and came away knowing the whole experience would stay with us for a very long time. We found the lodge extremely confortable, the food excellent and the location, with 'safe' wild animals around very enjoyable to walk in. However, what makes this stand out from other extremely...

We finished off our 2 week holiday in South Africa with a 3 day stay at Fugitive's Drift because my best friend is a history buff and I was happy to go along for the ride...this place was SO not what I expected. Having spent the previous 12 days in the lap of luxury along the Garden Route and Wine...

We stayed at Fugitives Guest House and loved it. Really great staff, best food of any lodge we stayed in, nice bar. Access is through the private game reserve to reach the lodge with plenty of giraffe and other game to see on each occasion. The half day tour of the battlefields of Isandlwana and Rorkes Drift are outstanding, moving...
