We had another rewarding and restful stay at the Buckhorn Inn. The accommodations are very comfortable and relaxing. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful. Every meal was delicious and memorable. The staff helped make our stay really special. Everyone was kind, friendly and thoughtful.
We first discovered Buckhorn Inn during Thanksgiving week 2011. We immediately fell in love with it and decided to return several months later. As of March 2022 we have been to Buckhorn Inn 15 times. We prefer to stay in a cottage which has a bedroom, living room with fireplace, kitchenette, and outdoor porch. These are a short walk from the rustic elegance of the main inn. Breakfast alone is worth the stay at Buckhorn. The library and sitting room are pleasant areas to relax and read. The candlelight evening gourmet meals are meticulously prepared and presented. The spacious property is situated in a serene location 5 miles outside of Gatlinburg and 1 mile from the Greenbrier entrance to Smoky Mountain National Park. But the best part of the Buckhorn Inn experience is the people. The graciousness of inn owner Lee Mellor is reflected throughout all of the staff, most of whom have worked there for many years. We call them our Buckhorn Inn family. The friendships we have developed with the interesting repeat guests only enhances our visits. For the value and for the total experience, Buckhorn Inn is second to none. While we very much miss the British gentility and humor of Lee’s late husband John, we feel his presence all around Buckhorn. Lee is doing an outstanding job of carrying forth their shared vision and legacy for this remarkable B&B. As John always said, no matter what table he held the chair for a woman to sit in for breakfast; “you have the best seat in the house”. …
Enjoyed a romantic prix fixe (four-course) dinner at this charming small inn tucked in the mountains. The inn was traditionally decorated with lovely views. Attentive wait staff and beautiful gardens with a labrynith to walk afterward. Reservations required.
On a trip to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, we stayed at Buckhorn Inn and loved our time there. After driving through Gatlinburg out of the park, we were so glad we were away from the hustle and bustle of town! Tracy checked us in upon our arrival and was so welcoming and full of great advice. When we made our reservations, our preferred cottage was not available so we booked premier room 3 for one night and the staff moved our things to cottage 5 the next day while we were out and about. Both accommodations were great but, honestly, we liked the convenience of the premier room better than the cottage. The cottage does have a sitting area and kitchenette but we were gone so much during the day, we didn't need it. If we return, we will just book a room in the lodge. The premier room was huge and certainly all we needed. We ate all our breakfasts there and booked 2 evening dinner reservations. Currently, the inn is booking times for breakfast and, by the time, we arrived the only breakfast available for the next day was later than we would have preferred. I understand the breakfast reservation system is a relatively new practice and we had not been informed until our arrival. If you like to get out early like we do, I suggest you ask about breakfast reservations when you book your stay. We ate dinner at the inn upon our arrival and enjoyed the food and the service by Lee and her staff. After seeing how crazy town was, we decided to book another dinner reservation for the evening before we departed. The only minor criticism I can add is their attention to my gluten free husband. They did accommodate his diet but we have been at other B&B's that went beyond Buckhorn. The grounds of Buckhorn are beautiful and we wish we had more time to experience all they had to offer. Many sitting areas and paths to walk and just enjoy the surroundings. All in all, we loved Buckhorn and would not hesitate to stay there again. Takes about 25 minutes to get there from the entrance to the park but well worth it!…
Although we had a quick visit, we plan to come back again when we can spend several days and take advantage of all this place has to offer. For an Inn I was a bit worried about noise from other guests. We didn't hear a thing all night and slept well1
My wife & I stayed in the Premiere Room 4 suite for four nights and are looking forward to returning in the near future. We met Tracy at check-in and she was incredibly personable, friendly, and informative. The Premiere Room 4 has its own reserved parking spot nearby its entrance. The images on the inn's website don't do this room justice. The living room is very spacious, there's a full kitchen with attached laundry room (stacked washer & dryer). The two full bathrooms both have stall showers, with one also having a large two person oval soaking / jacuzzi tub. There's plenty of room in the closet and storage space in the bureau in the bedroom. Noise from the inn's kitchen can be heard through the room's kitchen, but closing the French doos between the kitchen & the living room cut the noise. We'll book this room again when we return.…
Our group of 4 couples visit the Gatlinburg area each Spring. We have stayed at Buckhorn Inn many times. Our visit in April was another exceptional experience. From the warm welcome, to the food, to the view of Mt LeConte from the back porch, we love Buckhorn.
We had a wonderful experience at the Buckhorn! Pleasantly surprised at this find! I found the Buckhorn online and was not sure if it would meet my standards but it exceeded in every way. Our room had a gorgeous view! The grounds were well maintained! The dinner was spectacular! The staff was wonderful! We are going to add this place to our list of annual stops! Lovely, Warm, Romantic, Inviting!
We make it to the Smoky Mountains every few years, and each time, there are two inns that we are obsessed with: on the east side of the mountains, the Inn at Biltmore, and on the west side, The Buckhorn. The Buckhorn is a hidden crown jewel of the area, tucked away on a quiet mountainside well above Gatlinburg, in the arts loop. Everything at The Buckhorn is done with quiet class and elegance. It offers several gardens, a labyrinth for meditation, two swans on a pond, a nature walk trail, a delicious breakfast every morning, and a spectacular view of Mount LeConte. This time, our family of four, with two teenagers, enjoyed staying four nights in the Lindsay House, a small, historic chalet originally built in the 50s as a kind of garçonniere for the innkeepers’ three sons, next to their own private house. By small, I mean compared to our rambling Victorian farmhouse—it’s spacious indeed compared to most inn accommodations, with two bedrooms, two attached full baths, a kitchen, balcony, spacious living room, with a working fireplace and sweeping views of a beautiful wooded hillside. Everything was well-appointed and comfortable, and I especially appreciated the couple of original art works in the house. Each morning, we would have a delightful breakfast in the main inn building, generally with the choice of a French toast type dish, a quiche/Benedict/omelette type dish, basic bacon and eggs, and then a few lighter options. The breakfasts were incredible, good enough to get even our sleepy teenage daughter out of bed. After breakfast, the kids would walk the property and visit the swans, and I would accompany them and marvel at the hundreds of Lenten roses, planted everywhere, in full, glorious bloom. The Mellor family is dedicated to this beautiful inn. They have stewarded it for many years, and filled it with beauty, books, art, and wonderful memories for their guests. The past couple of years were likely a more difficult episode in the inn’s history, but they continue to be gracious hosts, offering some of the most graceful, elegant, and thoughtful accommodations in the region. It’s hard to say how deeply we appreciate them! And it’s equally hard to offer a strong enough recommendation for this charming inn.…
Staying at the Buckhorn Inn was a delightful experience. The Inn itself is well maintained in a wonderful setting with Beautiful views. My room was clean, spacious, and nicely appointed. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is warm and inviting with an old school charm which I love. The dining room is cozy with that beautiful view of the mountains, a large stone fireplace, and the dining experience was excellent. The food was delicious, served with class and attention to detail. It was difficult to leave. I hope I have the opportunity to return and experience it once again. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
