We wanted to go to Gatlinburg to ring in the New Year but did not want to have to worry about parking or traffic. Most hotels during this time required a three night minimum stay and Sidney James only required two. The location was perfect and only took about 15 to 20 minuets to walk to the strip. The walk down was easier than the walk back up hill! We have no complaints and would stay again. The rooms are somewhat dated but a fraction of the price of other hotels.

We headed to Gaitlinburg for our anniversary and stayed at Sidney James Mountain Inn. We did not plan on hanging in the room a whole lot; therefore, we chose accommodations a little below our budget, allowing spending money for other activities. We are accustomed to staying at more chain type locations, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, Double Tree are the normal choices. Admittedly, we have not always been pleased with these locations depending on the franchise owner.
Anyway, let’s start with Pro’s

Pros: Most pleasant and made it all worth it, bubbly creek on creek side of inn, could sit on balcony, with pleasant view and listen to creak, room size is large, shower water and pressure excellent, nice little pools and indoor water area, clean and refreshing. Front desk staff super nice and gave us a great recommendation of Peddlers steak house, walking distance from everything if you don’t mind a little walking, like 1/2 a mile. We don’t and was great for after dinner full bellies.

Cons: old and outdated, I think it was clean, when something is old, it is hard to tell, there was a cord coming out of the wall in our room, no idea reason for this, no screen on window or sliding door, we really would have liked to leave these open at night to hear the creek, parking tight on bottom level; however, top level adequate

Bottom line, we were not disappointed. It is what it is and we knew this going in, reason for 4 stars is lack of screens which could be a safety issue and something that could be fixed. If you are looking to spend more time in room, this might not be the place for you.

I stayed here for 2 nights on a Christmas trip to Gatlinburg, my room was on the Mountain Lodge side on the creek. This is an older lodge but my room was spacious, well lit, clean and comfortable. I enjoyed hearing the creek at night. There are outlets and charging stations above each nightstand. Breakfast is not included in the room price, but there is a cafe on-site that has very reasonably priced basic breakfast (eggs, bacon, sausage, toast). They even kept the cafe open for breakfast on Christmas day since most restaurants in town were closed. From most rooms, you will have to walk outside to get to the indoor pool but it is really nice - good size, good temperature. There is also a hot tub in the pool area, very good temperature but tends to get crowded. The pool towels are rather small as others have mentioned, but they are the same pool towels most hotels have these days and you can just use 2 if necessary. I would have given this lodge a 5, if not for the shower diverter broke on the second day in the middle of my shower and I could only get ice cold or scalding hot water to finish up. You can walk to town from here, but keep in mind it's uphill on the way back - I didn't have any problem with that but if you do there are lots closer to town on the same road that were charging $10. The staff was very nice and friendly.

I believe this was our 5th stay, and we have enjoyed each until this weekend.

The facility is dated, but that has been okay. They work hard to keep the pool clean. We love the individual balconies overlooking the creek and have witnessed bears at the creek during all but one of our stays. However, this week was not nearly as enjoyable.

The in-room jacuzzi had jet problems with two not functioning at all. The bathroom door had to be slightly lifted to fully open and close. We woke up to the smell of cigarette smoke in our room and discovered ashes had fallen from the room above. That room, like ours, was non-smoking, and the lady we spoke to about it was very unconcerned. Then when we attempted to shut the window, the latch was not working properly forcing us to leave it open.

We are undecided on whether to return. As stated, we have loved it until this stay so we may well do so. But at Gatlinburg rates these issues should not occur.

If you don’t plan on staying in the room for most of the day, this place is just what you need. It’s in a great location and if you are wanting to spend more money on activities instead where you stay I would recommend this place. It also a great walking distance from everything. It is verrrryyyyyy dated and it does smell like mildew as soon as you walk in but I recommend buying a candle to kill some of the smell. Now the cleanliness is questionable there was mold around my shower head and dirt in the sinks and jacuzzi. I will probably not stay here again but it great for a last minute option and if you’re on a budget.

This is the worst motel I have ever stayed at! I understand it is old but at some point it either needs to be completely renovated or shut down. The only slightly good thing about this place are the balconies overlooking the creek but they are very small. The carpets are extremely disgusting, the blankets look to be about 30 years old, you cannot take a shower because first there is barely any water pressure and second the whole time you’re in there the water will go from cold to scalding hot every few seconds. Also do not plan on sleeping at all, the outdoor pool that is supposed to close at 10 will have children screaming in it until at least midnight and then everyone else will be slamming their doors at all hours of the night. And you will hear EVERYTHING! I woke up every morning with a new bug bite somewhere on my body and I am praying they are not bed bug bites but it would not surprise me in the least little bit to learn that they are. And lastly they will not clean your room due to Covid so do not expect clean towels during your stay unless you hunt them down. I have been traveling the whole time Covid has been going on and this is the only place that would not clean my room and there is absolutely no reason why they shouldn’t.

The worst hotel we have ever stayed at, from screams in the night to the couple fighting next door to the shower that will not cut off, the pungent smell of the devil's lettuce every 15 minutes being sucked thru the air conditioner, I may have gotten a contact high , I'm also pretty sure that the hot tub is possessed from the ungodly sounds it has been making on and off thru out the night it may need an old priest and a young priest to exercise it, not to mention what could only be described as a torture device that they called a bed, the dated tile in the bathroom looks like it has not been cleaned in weeks but after closer look it is the way it is supposed to look, the hot tub is missing a handle and one of the air intake knobs and 3 of the jets are broke, the patio door opens but would not close, had to pick it up to get it closed and would require someone with some strenght, my wife could not close it. A total bust for our romantic 24th anniversary
we could not wait to leave the hotel and Gatlinburg, we make it to Gatlinburg at least 4 to 5 weekends a year and have stayed at most of the hotels and a few cabins over the the last 40 years, for the 190 dollars we spent to stay one night we would have been better of if we would have sleep in the truck and almost left to do just that in the middle of the night if it would not been freezing that night. The pictures of the rooms do not match what we were given. most of this was copied from my face book page that we posted on what could only be described as a Exodus to get back home and cut this disastrous weekend short. my business allows me to work on most of the phone system in the hotels and resorts in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge and Knoxville and by far this room has to be one of the worst that I have seen in the last few years, When rooms have this many issues they are generally blocked off and not rented out until they are brought back up to a standard that should have been set by management, The water leak in the shower was not just a drip it was running on low the whole stay, some thing that housekeeping should have reported and block the rental of the room till maintenance could have fixed the problem, that water leak probably cost more than was made off of the rental of the room. Fortunately when a resort reaches this state of disrepair it is usually gets sold and remodeled or torn down and a new one built. The amount of tourist that funnel through Gatlinburg and the percentage of room occupancy there is no excuse for a resort not to be up to date.
your truly one unhappy guest

We stayed in a room with a balcony next to the creek and enjoyed it very much. The room was clean and comfortable. The location is great for trips into Great Smoky Mountains National Park and is within walking distance to the Gatlinburg Parkway. This is an older property and it is a bit dated, but we found it to be very clean and comfortable. The staff was very pleasant.

I think the time that we showed up to this hotel was when a bunch of other travel football teams were staying at the hotels It was total chaos. The rooms were decent shower was hot and clean they're also building a major structure behind the hotel. It was a horrible night's day just because the people were very loud all night screaming and yelling pounding on doors on the walls and the construction was going on if it wasn't that situation did it probably would have been a great stay. One thing I did not like was when you get on the bed it makes a sound because The frame had sheet metal and it made a noise every time he moved in the bed like thunder haha. If you want to avoid parking issues get a room on the third floor That way you can walk right through the lobby and go to the your hotel room no staircases you have to find a parking space out front though to avoid that. Before you go to this hotel you need to call them and ask if there are traveling sports teams there the night you are staying there. Also there is a indoor pool very nice a cafe right there on the property outdoor pool as well. I think it would be great for the summer. The staff was awesome very nice.

We are so very sorry you stay was a noisy one! Every year around Thanksgiving sports teams compete at the sports center. Almost every hotel is full with family's and players. He hope to see you another time when things are a bit quieter. We are so happy you were able to enjoy the pool and Cafe.

I do a great deal of traveling and am willing to forego “luxury” for scenery, convenience, etc. That being said, I can say four nice things about this establishment…great diner food at the poolside cafe, friendliness of staff, the sound of the creek and the sighting of black bears. We purchased a Creekside room only to discover that there was a construction site behind the creek. Our view consisted of outhouses, bulldozers, trash bins, etc. The facility is dated and in great need of upgrade. The exterior is unkept with no attention to landscaping. There are cigarette butts everywhere. Floors are unclean, shower is moldy, some electrical outlets are nonfunctional, bed spreads and furniture are dated and appear unclean (I removed the bed spreads immediately and put them in the corner). The rocking chairs on the balcony are old, uncomfortable, stained and dirty. I’m certain this place had at one time been a jewel but is now an old bubble-gum machine “bauble” abandoned in a junk drawer.
