We are a 1910 National Historic Landmark hotel built by James J. and Louis Hill of the Great Northern Railway. After being closed for fifty years, the property underwent a three-year restoration completed in 1999 and is now a National Historic Landmark. The Belton Chalet was the first chalet built for Glacier Park and the park’s first winter headquarters. Belton Chalet, family owned, once again welcomes guest from across the world. Thank you for being our guest and a part of our history.

We spent two nights at the Belton Chalet and found it to be an excellent place to stay to see Glacier NP--even though the main road through the park was closed due to the fires.

I'm an architect and really loved the building. The second thing that impressed us was the knowledge

A fantastic old wooden chalet which has been sympathetically restored but unfortunately doesn't therefore give modern day comfort. Pricey for what you get. It is however very convenient for the West Glacier entrance of the park - when open.

At first glance the room looked like

We stayed at the Lewis cabin the last weekend in September 2018 and it was simply wonderful!
Yes, it is extremely close to the 2 lane highway and the train station but because of all the other wonderful qualities....it didn't really matter. We have a 4 and 5 year old and they co

The point of this hotel is to be old fashioned and they certainly hit the mark. But it's very cute and comfortable. In what appeared to be a full bed with an iron frame, my not small husband and myself (very not small) were comfortable. The bathroom was small, with a toilet an

Three of us were visiting Glacier in mid-September and our first night was spent at the Belton. It is truly a historic hotel, absolutely pristine: we felt as though our rooms had just been painted and cleaned meticulously. The common areas were gorgeous and reflected a differe

I need transportation to the airport to get a rental. Any suggestions?
We used a shuttle company called Flathead/Glacier Transportation (406-892-3390) for travel to and from the airport to West Glacier or Whitefish. To West Glacier the cost is approximately $50.00 for a group of 1-4 people and $65.00 for a group of 5-8 people. To Whitefish the cost is approximately $30.00 for a group of 1-4 and $38.00 for 5-8.

Hello, planning Amtrak to hotel. Which station are you at? What hikes are best during our Oct 26-30 stay?
The station is right across the street from the Belton in West Glacier. Next door to the station is a little ranger station with a very helpful ranger. He sold us a great trail map. Remember, getting to the park will cost you $5 on the shuttle which only goes once in the morning and once at night. Same for leaving the park to get back to the Belton. Next time we plan to either bring our bikes take the shuttle into the park when we arrive and stay inside the park where the shuttles are free. Four of our favorite hikes were Trail of cedars to Avalanche Lake. St. Mary Falls and Virginia Falls are amazing and both on the same trail and the views of the mountains are spectacular. Logan Pass visitor center has two good trails that start there. The trail to hidden lake usually affords views of wildlife and when we were there lots of snow. Highline trail is very popular, but only my husband did it as the steep and narrow path wasn't my cup of tea.

Is it open on Sunday?
Yes, during the season. I believe into October.

What about breakfast ??
I stayed at both Belton Chalet and Glacier Guides motel. I really liked the latter much better, though it is not historic like Belton Chalet. Glacier Guides had free breakfast (serve yourself, but it was good)

"Loved the cabin"
"Get the balcony; it was worth the money even with fog in the morning."
"We chose to be on the parking lot side, away from the train track, although I found the train sounds soothing."
"away from railroad side and higher floors if want more quiet/privacy"
"Save money and skip the balcony room, it's not worth the added cost."
