Planned a fun weekend to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday, and figured a staycation would be a great idea. I saw that the Penny Williamsburg finally opened so we booked a Queen Supreme room - it was literally perfect. The room was spotless, the bed was so cozy, the mini fridge and microwave were nice amenities that I feel like a lot of hotels don't have anymore. The location is amazing for local staycations or tourists looking to stay in the heart of Williamsburg with plenty of bars and restaurants nearby and easy access to the L train. Highly recommend this property!!

We spent two nights at the Penny celebrating our 25th anniversary. This was the first hotel that has ever recognized the special occasion I noted upon booking. I recieved a personal note via email congratulating us, and upon arrival there was a lovely handwritten note with various goodies congratulating us once again. They even gave us a small room upgrade (another first). These small gestures went a long way to show they pay attention and care. The check-in staff was friendly and helpful and the process was fast and easy. The room itself was not quite what we expected from photos (photos make it appear newer and a bit more 'bougie' than it is, but we enjoyed our stay and had everything we needed. We liked having a microwave in the small 'kitchenette'-every hotel should provide these! There were also glasses and reusbale utensils provided. Two small plates would have been nice to have as we wanted to warm up some resturant leftovers and had to call down and request some. I also loved the very large floor to ceiling mirror (another item every hotel room should have), however the lighting near the mirror needs to be improved-the area was so dark it was hard to make good use of it. There is no self-serve ice machine but staff is happy to bring some to your room upon request. On our first night, we decided to grab a drink at ElNico to check out the great views that we'd seen online. We went up there just after it opened and spoke to a woman standing at a small podium to let her know we just wanted to have a drink and enjoy the views. She was not friendly at all and basically told us if we want to sit outside, we couldn't sit on the patio with 'better' views because dinner service would be starting soon. Aside from two people sitting at the bar, the place was completely empty. It would have been nice (and professional) if she had taken the time to peek and notice the empty patio, and maybe ask us to limit our time out there to one drink. I was put off by this. So we took our margaritas and sat on the not-as-nice-view side. This was the most unpleasant aspect of our stay.
The only other small inconvenience we encountered was the mobile key to our room did not work a number of times, so we had to go downstairs to the front deak and have them reset it. I suggest taking the card key they give you and not bothering with the mobile version.
We liked the bathroom/shower combo setup and loved the handheld shower head. Water pressure and temp were great. The bed was comfortable and the AC worked great. The clothes steamer they provide was also great, and so much better than ironing.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend the Penny

We were in town to help our daughter move to a new apartment in Brooklyn. Penny was a wonderful find! The location was great as we were able to spend what little free time we had walking nearby streets shopping and enjoying some wonderful meals. The best meal of the weekend was at the on site restaurant El Nico. While the timing on our food and drinks was a bit off, they quickly recognized and comped us free cocktails. The food and atmosphere was great although we were clearly a bit older than most of the other guests. 😂
Our room was not big but every bit of spaced was used well and well designed. It was surprisingly quiet for such a busy location. We avoided paying for parking by easily finding a spot on the street Penny will definitely be on our short list for our next visit to Brooklyn

Thank you for providing us with a very comfortable stay at Penny Williamsburg. We really enjoyed our stay there. The attention to detail in the design and the consumer's experience was far better than most high-end restaurants. It really catered to a young audience that enjoys the good things in life.
The yoga equipment in the cupboard, to the fellow pour over equipment in the rooms and the coffee that was there, the custom design on all the gel labels, the pin up board as little notices with illustrations for the guest. Everything was outstanding!

Overall the hotel is comfortable and in a good location for walking around the neighbourhood and plenty of places to eat and drink. If you like something a bit quirky this is ideal. The concierge staff were also very friendly and helpful.

If you are a light sleeper - take your ear plugs! My room was opposite the elevators and every time someone used them I could hear the 'ding' of the elevator. Also because this is where guests enter/leave the floor there was a lot of noise especially early morning and late evening. Maybe a notice could be put up to encourage guests to be considerate of others.

I had an issue with housekeeping where miscommunication meant my room was not cleaned for a couple of days despite me displaying the relevant sign on my door. Despite a solution being offered my room was still not cleaned the next day by the time I returned from being out. I was offered a refund to rectify this but it did put a dampner on my stay.

I thought this hotel was just so cute, so my vibe. I loved the pops of color in everything. The oranges, the yellow yoga mat, the stained decanter glass, I mean! Literally going to get my apartment to look like this. It is very small, I will admit and there are not a lot of amenities. They partner with a gym that’s close I believe but you have to pay for the day pass ($25) and I couldn’t find breakfast room service. I was only there for a day, so that didn’t bother me much but thought it was worth mentioning. I got the smallest room and it was not as small as I thought. The bed under the window and all the things they put in the cabinets (microwave, trash, refrigerator) were more than most hotels as well as a Fellow drip coffee set. I just really enjoyed the vibe.

I had an amazing stay at the hotel! My room was well-equipped with foam rollers, a steamer, and it was clean and comfortable. The bed was cozy and had plenty of pillows. The robe provided was a nice touch. The drip coffee was awesome, and the shower amenities and hand soap were amazing. The hangers in the closet and cork board with instructions for the room were very helpful. Plus, the automatic shades were a big plus, and the picture window that opened to the garden was a great feature!

The Penny hotel is named after a chihuahua. Like the dog, the hotel rooms are small but with great personality. The space is intelligently arranged. It is ideal for a single traveler. My wife and I were very comfortable in the room. The hotel has 5 features that make it a great place to stay and definitely worth a return visit. First, it has comfortable beds. I can’t remember the number of times I’ve stayed in hotels with beds that were too soft and left me aching with back pain in the morning. The beds are on the firmer side. Second, the water pressure is good. The bath room could be bigger. I suggest bringing a pair of flip flops, because the sink is too small to wash our faces without getting the floor wet. Third, free wifi with no extra charges. I found the cellular signal a bit weak and unreliable. So wifi is definitely needed. Fourth, there are water dispensers on each floor, so bring a few reusable bottles. Fifth, the neighborhood is awesome. There are lots of restaurants and shops. It’s a great place to walk around.

On first glance, the Penny is charming with funky original art and decent sized rooms for New York. Going for that hipster Williamsburg thing and doing it reasonably well. My fault that I didn’t look carefully at the pictures to realize the bed (which is definitely between a double and a queen, not a full queen) was against the wall so my spouse and I would have to climb over each other to get in and out of bed. The pros: bed is comfortable, there are some decent amenities that we did not avail ourselves of (bicycles, pour over coffee (too much work), grab and go snacks). Delicious oranges in the room. Lighting adjustable for different levels of brightness/ambiance. Cons: only outlets on one side of the bed (as mentioned earlier since the bed is against the window). One of the bedside lamps was broken. A huge poof of dust came out of the window shade and landed on us in bed when we lowered the shade. The shower leaked all over the floor. The bath towels, though large and seemingly sumptuous, had holes in them where they looked like they had been chewed. When entering and leaving the building, there is no one to hold the door or automatic door, so even getting in the building when laden with bags is challenging. Coming and going, even though you walk right by the front desk staff, no one says anything- have a nice evening, welcome back, whatever. Very weird - like deliberately looking at you when you walk by but continuing conversation with the other person behind the desk. I will almost always give an hotel a pass on one or two things - each of these independently wasn’t terrible by any means. It’s just that you are paying almost $500/night which is a lot of money for ratty towels, a dusty bed, and aloof staff. There aren’t a lot of options in the area even in this price range, which is the only reason I would recommend this hotel.

Fairly nice room, with a nice bed. The rooms are quite small which is okay- I’ve stayed in small rooms before but the set-up is not ideal (one bedside against the wall, shower door can’t open.) Additionally a resort fee was charged and we didn’t even get a bottle of water in the room. We stayed at a hotel in Chicago with a 30 dollar resort fee- each night they restocked the room with two free beers from a local brewery, bottles of free sparkling water, two drink tickets a day, free breakfast, free gyms use for a gym down the street, and coupons to a ton of businesses. With this hotel it went towards nothing, so just maybe they should just list the cost.

Hello Elle, Thank you for taking the time in sharing this feedback and hopefully your overall experience with us was a pleasant one. Regarding the rooms we do have different room categories which we are confident would cater to your specific preferences (ex. bed not against the wall, shower etc.) so something to consider for next time. Additionally, the destination fee (or resort fee as you call it) is a fee you will find throughout the hotel industry. In our case it includes the following... Unlimited coffee/tea, filtered water machines on each guest floor, bike rentals, Pressreader (Digitial Newspaper & Magazines). We hope to get the opportunity to host you again in the future. Best regards, The Penny Team
