Built of cobble and ballast stones in 1817, as a cotton warehouse, our converted, historic hotel overlooks the Savannah River, right on world famous River Street. Many rooms are decorated with period furnishings, four poster beds, oriental rugs, hardwood floors and exposed brick walls, maintaining its historic charm. Located just blocks from downtown Broughton Street shopping district & City Market, cars aren't needed, as all is within walking distance; Valet Parking is available. With four restaurants on property (guest are offered a discount) located within the building are many shops, guests don't have to venture far! Sight seeing trolleys pick up / drop off in front of our hotel and the Savannah River boat is docked across from our property.

Detailed Reviews
Our review from Feb 2020 was removed with the explanation that the hotel was totally renovated afterwards. Well, that was wrong - our room and most of the hotel was finished by the time we stayed. Strangely, our review was extremely positive so I'm not sure why they would have wanted to remove it. Plus, our review included the fact that we were so impressed with the ceiling fan of our renovated room we actually bought one for our bedroom at home. We LOVED the updated bathrooms and fixtures juxtaposed against the historic feel of the location and exposed brick walls. We love this hotel and the location and will definitely stay here in future trips.

River Street Inn has recently undergone a $2 million dollar renovation, and boy, does it show! Beautifully refurbished bedrooms and bathrooms, right on the Savannah river in the heart of the historic district, you simply cannot beat the location of this place. They offered a very nice “manager’s reception” in the evening, coffee was always available, and the price was unbeatable. We will be back!

I was passing through Savannah on a road trip with my stepdad. My sister recommended that we stay at the gorgeous River Street Inn. She stayed there with her son last summer and they loved it, so on her endorsement I used the Inn’s website to reserve us a room and am so glad I did.
This historic inn is top notch; beautifully styled and furnished, the building is really something to see. The elevator and stairs are centralized around a stunning atrium that is open to all floors of the building.
Our room was very clean, well-appointed and comfortable. We had a late dinner at Tubby’s (which is in the building) and it was delicious.
What stands out the most from our stay though, was the inn’s staff. Everybody was so friendly and helpful. From the wonderful valet attendants like Ricky and others who helped us with our bags and gave us local tips on the area, to the kind and conscientious front desk staff like Ashley and others who helped us understand the Savannah parking situation (use the app, it’s great) and they were chock full of great recommendations and helpful information.
One employee that we met in the elevator offered us a squirt of his hand sanitizer before we went into Tubby’s for dinner.
It’s a strange and stressful time to travel in the age of Coronavirus and thoughtful gestures like this are so appreciated.
Like its hometown, this place has such a relaxed and pleasant vibe. I will definitely be returning next time I’m in the area.
Thanks all!

It was our 10 year wedding anniversary and have been longing to stay at the River Street inn for quite some time and when we finally had the opportunity to stay, I was extremely disappointed. When entering our room we were delighted to have found a card and a complimentary bottle of champagne in our room to celebrate our anniversary as well as candy from the popular candy shop in the area. As an interior designer, I was excited to finally be staying at this Inn, however, was deeply disappointed with the entire experience. What a shame to have such an amazing looking historical building in a prime location on River Street, to be somewhat run down. The beds squeaked with the slightest movement, the mattress was not a queen as selected upon booking but was a full size, the bedding was cheap, dirty, and uncomfortable. The acoustics were terrible as I felt like I was sleeping on the expressway and heard cars passing by all night. I heard hotel doors slamming all night as well because they do not close softly and being next to a mechanical room I heard the elevator all night. The seating and rugs in the room were filthy and had stains and my towels had hair in them. The a/c return was covered in dust. There were stains on the bathroom walls as well. Great design intent but executed with low budget options that look cheap. You spent on upgraded lighting and some good pieces but skimped on cleanliness and bedding. With a few upgrades and care, this place can be a 4-5 star location. The area rugs used throughout the facility were for residential projects and are so worn out they don't give the feeling of vintage but of the inn being dirty. Upgrade the mattress and bed linens and if you're going to have metal beds ensure they are not loose, shaking, and squeaking when guests sleep in them or provide a can of wd-40. Being an old building does not mean the facility has to be falling apart or uncomfortable. I have stayed in several properties that are decades old and did not feel as if I was missing any modern luxuries. Regardless we made the best of the situation by placing our bottle on ice and drinking our bottle in the plastic water cups provided on the balcony overlooking a beautiful city. The staff was so sweet and held my flowers at the front desk when we were checking out so that we could tour the city without them having to wilt in the car. They also gave us a late check out as we arrived extremely late the night before.

634AshleyA. We appreciate you taking the time to write about your experience on TripAdvisor. Please accept my apologies for a less than desirable stay at our property. I have read your commentary and will address these issues with our ownership and my management team to ensure the maintenance aspects get corrected. The room that was selected was in fact a queen size bed, as we do not have any full size options within the hotel. Being a 203 year old historic building comes with many restrictions as to upgrades that can be done such as windows and soundproofing as these items take away from the historical integrity of the building and therefore would void our historic status. Hence why some of the options that you are suggesting could not be completed. After looking through your reservation, I did not see where you had any mention of any of these items to either the front desk or hotel management as we would have liked the opportunity to address this while you were still on property. Please contact me at your convenience at 912-234-6400 or at jrosa@riverstreetinn.com so that we might be able to discuss this further.

The River Street Inn is so perfectly located that whoever picked that spot should receive a medal. Right on the river, and the most desired walk along the river, which contains all kinds of shops and restaurants. We were on the 4th floor, which provided an incredible view of everything, including large ships that seemed floating by only a few feet from our window. There are 4 restaurants attached to the hotel, each of them outstanding. One was awarded "best breakfast" and one was awarded "best brunch" in Savannah and they deserved the accolades. Our room was very clean and very spacious. It was quiet as well. Also, tour buses stopped directly in front of the hotel, making it very easy to see the city without using your car. I don't see how any hotel in Savannah could offer more.

First time customers from Ocala, Florida. I am a travel agent and scouted out this hotel and city for future clients wanting a historical southern charm city with great experiences. We had a great start with the Valet service and great guys assisting us. The small and quaint entrance and lobby is charming. The staff at the front desk lead by Shaneca were friendly and informative! We left requests for assisting my wife who is deaf and we were delighted that our request was answered and Shaneca was able to assist our friends from Roswell, GA in obtaining a room on the same floor during a busy July 4th weekend. The other staff members were also wonderful and jolly. As far as the hotel and rooms, they were large and clean. The 203+ years of age on the building come through in the brick walls, beams and overall historical feel in the building. If you expect a perfect floor, wall or window sill then stick to the new sterile hotel chains. The rooms were updated and modern conveniences. The location of this hotel is ideal for shopping, restaurants and activities, not to mention a river view with a balcony. Overall, a great hotel a great price with gold service. Ask about possible hauntings in the area. Our only suggestions for the owners and management is to attach better signage on Bay Street where to park for unloading, possibly turn all ceiling fans in rooms prior to checking in to allow for room circulation of air, possible small humidifiers for removal of moisture in the rooms due to the age of the building and the natural old materials used in the construction. Would stay here every time when in Savannah! Side note is explore the small bistros and unique diners. Stay away from the high paced crowded restaurants with the same boring food. Have fun!

This property combines the historical building with new decor. We had a river view room with a balcony. The balcony was extremely small, not even room for a chair and the noise from the street at night was very loud. However, the view was spectacular and the hotel itself was very quiet. We were dissatisfied with the policy not to make up rooms for stays less than four nights and we requested that the housekeep[ing staff clean the bathroom and refresh the towels and she refused. Perhaps this is a pandemic policy but one of the things we enjoy about staying in a hotel is coming back to a refreshed room. The location is very good - walkable to most of the city and we enjoyed many of the fine dining choices in the area. The side patio with rocking chairs was a very pleasant place for an afternoon break. Overall the staff could have been a bit friendlier with the exception of Ms. Val who could not have been more helpful. She does a wonderful job hosting the manager's reception each day. Shopping around the property was lots of fun and varied. We would return.

Positive - great location, clean room
Negatives - unfriendly staff, rude valet, billing screwed up (we travelled with another couple and the hotel charged both rooms to our credit card when they should have charged each room to each customer’s credit card. We called to correct, left message, no return phone call. Ended up resolving issue between couples). Overcharged one room. We found a cheaper rate online and asked at checkin for that rate and they would not honor the rate. Receptionist we talked with was rude. Would we stay there again or recommend, no!

Thank you for providing us with your feedback. Our apologies that your stay did not go as expected. It is never our intention to have a guest leave without rectifying the situation. I have spoken with my management team and stressed to them the importance of urgency and getting back to our guests as well as the friendliness of the front desk. This is certainly not the level of service that the hotel is known for and thousands of reviews can attest to that. We do hope that in light of this situation you allow us another opportunity to host you again in the future.

Great location (walking distance to many sites, restaurants, trolley stops), spacious rooms & bath but definitely in need of some TLC & updates. Shower leaked (& looks as if it had been leaking for some time), carpet had large random stains. Very poor response from desk personnel for requests. we were not told that our room would not be receiving housekeeping services prior to arrival (understand precautions & restrictions but would like to have been notified prior to the stay.

The perfect location of River Street Inn means that we left our truck and walked everywhere we went. We went all the way to the end of the newest shops on the riverwalk and to The Pirate House for supper.
Tubbys was also a great place to eat and get a drink. We watched the boat parade there on Sat. while watching the Ga game on their TV!
Our king size room overlooking the river was quiet, so we were not bothered by the street noise. It is an ancient building that has been beautifully renovated with period furniture, wooden floors, and original brick walls. The heater felt awesome since it was chilly then. The only thing I missed was having lotion to use after my shower. I am used to every hotel offering lotion, so I did not pack my own. They just don't have it anymore.
The other changes due to this virus going on are the same in hotels everywhere. They don't change your towels or take trash or make up the beds, just like all the places we stay now, including B n Bs.

The balcony was cool, overlooking the river and all, but do yourself a favor a park your own car in the garage a block or two away from hotel, valet is $45 and they lost our car for hours, had to Uber to the show, late, two hours waiting on a Lyft back afterwards “had already prepaid to for parking” sent us out to look for it at 1am. My wife fell….ruined our trip. Manager responded on my review as anyone would expect, I still haven’t spoken to him despite emails, calls…we did eventually get refunded, took three tries but I eventually got it. Room and building beautiful, location A1 ….,park your own car tho
