Arranged gardeners to do lawn work whilst people were laying at the pool and enjoying the sun before sunset. Extremely unprofessional general manager, rude and used excuses. It's a glorified motel, the view was amazing, if you could enjoy without having cut grass thrown at face. It is a shame that the manager ruined our stay. Also, good luck getting food if restaurant is closed. If there is traffic on freeway you will get stuck both ways. There were ants coming from our window and clumps of hair in the pool. The breakfast was a joke, definitely not work booking for $200+. Do yourself a favour, read the reviews before booking.
This is an older property, but it has a stunning location and grounds. Sometimes it is hard to believe you are right next to the highway….No private balconies, however. Unfortunately there is not a microwave in the room, and not even a coffee maker. And there is no coffee provided in the lobby. Both would be good, considering the price of the hotel rooms….There was a very unpleasant worker who actually yelled at my husband when he went down 10 minutes after the breakfast had ended, to get more coffee! We had seen this same individual being rude to two other guests at dinner the night before….However, the restaurant is great- good food, not overly expensive and a beautiful setting. Guest parking can be very tight, however. The provided breakfast is limited and starts at 7:30, which makes it difficult if you are leaving early. The daily maid service is nice, and quite a rarity these days! Overall, we would probably stay here again. I just wish they would at least get room coffee makers, if not microwaves!…
Absolutely terrible experience. Avoid at all costs! The rooms are dirty and the service is awful. Truly a terrible hotel. Very rare to see something like this in this day and age. They overcharge and then make it impossible to resolve the dispute. The front desk staff are extremely poor at what they do. This is a hotel to avoid.
Run down, old, and no coffee in the room and no coffee service until late in the morning. No way to make coffee in your room. 15 minutes to the closest coffee so be prepared to drive to get coffee. 30 minutes to get coffee. Rude front desk staff. Late to open. Many of us running around the property looking for coffee. They had it but wouldn't let us have it. We even offered $50 cash for one cup of coffee and they said no, go to Starbucks.
We stayed at this hotel for a one night stay on our way to Paso Robles and absolutely loved it!!! We arrived at 2 p.m. and were greeted with a warm welcome & an early check in. We stayed in Room #11 (corner room), which we highly recommend! This room has a large picture window with a spectacular view of the ocean! To our surprise this room has a side door (as well as a main door) making it easy to roll our electric bikes in & out of our room. This door also made it easy to unload & load our vehicle. We thoroughly enjoyed the Ventura Bike Trail, which runs along the ocean and is accessible just steps from your room. The room decor may be dated but it doesn’t take away from the experience of what this hotel has to offer. A continental breakfast is served downstairs at 7:30. It was a perfect way to get the morning started. The staff was helpful & friendly & the coffee was hot!! We ate dinner at Shoal’s, the hotel restaurant. The ambiance, food, & service was amazing!!! We had reservations at 7 but upon arrival Romi, the hostess, suggested we wait 10 minutes for a ocean front table… we were so glad we waited as the view (& sunset) were spectacular but honestly you can’t go wrong with any table there. We started with fresh warm bread & a bottle of Chardonnay. My husband had the NY Steak with mashed potatoes & veggies and I had the Pan Seared Scallops with Lobster Risotto & veggies. Both of our meals were delicious & flavorful! My scallops were the best I’ve ever had!! Our server, Adriana, was attentive & very pleasant. We look forward to coming back for a longer stay at the Cliff House Inn!!…
One room smelled like urine so bad no one was able to sleep in it. One party booked a king and a king deluxe/queen room-this is a room with a king bed with a separate room with a queen bed. Was given 2 rooms with 2 king beds for 6 people to sleep then offered extra blankets and pillows so 2 people could sleep on floor. We were traveling with a group of 15 people and reservations were made in March 2022. Had there been another hotel that could accommodate our party we would have gone. Spoke to several people as they were checking out and experience was the same - dirty and not clean, debilitated. One woman-not with our party, asked for cleaner in order to clean surfaces in her room. While the online pictures look great they are not accurate. If I could upload those that I took showing what the property really looks like I would have. …
I was listening to the Rolling Stones this morning, It goes " You can't always get what you want. But if you try sometimes, well, you might find. You get what you need" . This is what you get when you stay here. I picked this place because we love cycling and the bike trail is right outside the building. Why 4 star? The bed is nice and comfortable. They have water softener and I like the feeling after the shower. Plus we enjoyed the friendly staff and good food at the "Shoals" restaurant and I love the sound of the ocean at night.
Absolutely one of the worst places I've stayed! Property is old & tired, but more importantly not clean, and seems seedy. My husband's nightstand was sticky; carpet was gross; bed was rickety. Had a horrible night's sleep as there no a/c, and it's right on the highway. Between traffic and construction it was noisy as hell if windows were open, and had to because it was too warm otherwise. Thank God we only booked one night! Would have gone elsewhere but we arrived on the later side and hotel is out there by itself. The only upside is the ocean is beautiful, but you can do much better. Skip this one!
Think Motel 6 with a great view. Definitely not worth $200+/night. Absolutely worst night stay of anywhere, ever. The views are amazing, but the room is run down with stains on the carpet and the shower is completely questionable. (I’ve stayed at campsites with better showers.) The absolute worst part was the domestic dispute going on literally ALL NIGHT in one of the rooms and there is no one at the front desk from 10:30pm on. We called before the front desk closed to report the noise (yelled, sobbing, things being banged around or thrown) and we heard them call once before the staff left for the night - that’s it. We called repeatedly throughout the night to try to reach someone - nothing. Voicemail box is full, no back up person or operator. Worst customer service possible. I’ve received better at truck stop motels. The disturbance started at 10pm and is still going strong 8 hours later when I write this at almost 6am. We opened the window to have the waves drown out the noise and even with an added sound machine we could still hear the other room. Not sure how the property is a 3 star other than the views. 2 star at most. (Restaurant has amazing food, but walked by the kitchen on our way out and saw that one cook didn’t have a mask on and the two others weren’t using their masks to cover their faces - nose sticking out or mask below the chin.) Will update on whether they comp the room or do literally anything to help make things up to us. When we went to check out first thing we were told the manager wouldn’t be in until noon and there was nothing staff could do. First night away since the pandemic began 2 years ago and we have slept less then when we had a newborn. Leaving angry, exhausted, and traumatized.…
My wife, three young daughters and I had a nightmare experience at this hotel! I have a video of spiders in the shower and on the bathroom walls that I would love to upload and please be sure to view the photos of the ancient, bent and torn window screens that I’m guessing allowed them and other bugs to enter the room. There's a pile of junk against the end of the building which is below the open window to the bathroom. I'm sure that's where the spiders were born and came from! After finding and killing a dozen or so spiders and several other crawling and flying bugs, my wife had to sleep in the second bedroom with our girls because they were terrified. She had to snuggle and sing to them for an hour to finally get them to fall asleep. We killed all the spiders and bugs we could find on the first night, and didn't see any more in the morning, but unfortunately we found more when we returned to the room late on the second night. If we weren't so exhausted from being up late celebrating the Fourth of July, we may have asked to move rooms. Although they were likely at capacity since it was a holiday. Anyhow, as a result, all night every itch and tingle had us scratching and wondering if we were being bitten! Needless to say we didn’t sleep very well. In addition to lacking maintenance, the room is filthy and we found hair balls in both beds. Disgusting! This is by far our absolute worst hotel experience ever. There is no ocean view or location that makes this even close to worthwhile or acceptable. Management only offered a small partial refund and even had the gall to question our experience because we didn't complain until we checked out! Look at the photos and decide for yourself. The place is not clean or safe place to stay. The owners and operators should be ashamed.…
