We drove in from Maryland -- 4 1/2 hour drive -- pulled up to the Surrey on 76th and Madison and voila the minivan is parked, we -- all five of us -- go up to our beautiful rooms. Couldn't have been easier. Rooftop garden was perfect -- had it to ourselves. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. We spent...

Dear Guest, Thank you for the superb review, and I am delighted to hear you had such a wonderful experience at the Surrey and especially for a 90th birthday which is a celebration in itself. Bad start. Arrived at noon, room not ready, normal check-in 3:00, promised a priority on availability. Returned to hotel at 3:40, room not ready, waited in (small) lobby, then got tea (very slow) in bar/lounge off lobby, room finally ready at 4:15! Old fashioned small lobby, intimate until about six or more people in it, when it starts to have...

We stayed in the surrey In February for five days. We chose the hotel because of its location and reputation as a luxury hotel. we were not disappointed , the location was ideal for visiting museums, especially the metropolitan art museum and also for shopping. The hotel itself surpassed out expectations, the room was well decorated and large. The staff...

We love The Surrey Hotel very very much. We have stayed for about 4 years now and we are treated beautifully. They remember our names and smile and make you feel good. The concierge service is wonderful and so are the doormen and bellmen. Just a wonderful NYC experience. Smaller Quaint Elegant Cheerful Quieter Neighborhood on tree lined street. Cannot...

This is just a great NY hotel. Great staff ( have Coco line up a car for you!) and better rooms this hotel is a real treat for travelers. Fantastic upper east side location close to great shopping and MTA lines, it has it all. But, no matter how wonderful the bathroom, sheets in the bed (Frette btw) or view......

This is a well appointed, well located uptown hotel. The bar and cafe restaurant are always busy and the lobby which bisects them is small so it is not exactly a peaceful retreat. The hotel has a very good small contemporary art collection but unfortunately had on show some terrible paintings of celebrities. On arrival it took several hours to...

The Surrey is expensive but delivers on service and amenities. We thought the room was beautiful and well taken care of. All of the staff were friendly and eager to serve. The bar and restaurant were great. Be prepared to pay top dollar for parking ($75) and drinks ($20 per drink).

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
