I like Intercontinental hotels, but this was disappointing. There was renovations taking place and some facilities were limited. The check in had been relocated to the Club Lounge, which meant that the Lounge was unavailable to guests. I was there during Storm Stella and the restaurant was closed. This only left the Gin Bar for eating, and the choice was...

I have rather sentimental attitude to this hotel and was very cusious how they renovated it last year. To my disappointment, after renovation this hotel lost most of its charm and certainly will not be my first choice anymore in NY. Lobby is empty and ill-organized - friont desks are neglected and you have to search for the reception somewhere...

Great hotel. Large room two queen beds. Beds were wonderful. Good service great air conditioning. Very comfortable hotel near attractions. Front desk staff very helpful. Didn't try the bar. After a hectic day this is a great place to chill out with a cold glass of water.

Have stayed here a million times pre-reno with my family (good location for business meetings, etc.) LOVE the new renovation. The rooms are so cozy, and the bathrooms tackled every problem that arose before Reno (no lighting/storage/old shower). They are stunning now- complete with a lot more storage, beautiful showers, and heated floors! Love staying here, in good proximity to...

Recently renovated! Excellent room. The staff was kind enough to accommodate my wish to get me a room with a desk as I needed to work in the room outside of business hours. Very attentive staff and the area behind the (temp) check-in for tea, coffees and soft drinks is an excellent concept. It's nice to keep such an area...

WE were so disappointment with customer service that it was almost painful, especially for my husband who spent a number of nights here some time ago. The difference he noted was shocking. Staff we dealt with was grouchy, unhappy, with poor manners. The club lounge's offer was extremely basic and limited. However, the interior and style was classy and upscale-...

Nice looking hotel, but it is skin deep and we were made to feel like second class citizens. Stayed on 15th floor. There was a VIP staying who the hotel blocked off two elevators for and caused a big line for the remaining one. Maybe this was the reason why the the entire reception area was closed down and moved...

Best hotel we have every stayed in! There was a tad bit of confusion at reception upon check in as they thought we had booked two rooms which I think was down to us being a same sex couple but this was resolved quickly and a room upgrade was apparently given. The room was amazing and could happily stay in...

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Since first opening its doors in 1926, the InterContinental New York Barclay has welcomed countless guests to enjoy a luxurious residential-style experience in the heart of the city. Originally constructed as part of the Grand Central Terminal expansion, The Barclay became one of four notable railroad hotels built to service the well-heeled men and women travelling to New York City. Its convenient location, directly above the railroad tracks, permitted the hotel the unique distinction of having its own platform in the basement, ideal for the upscale rail traveler who occasionally arrived by private train car. In addition to its Midtown East location, the hotel made an immediate impact with tenants and critics alike for its characteristic atmosphere of comfort and elegant domesticity. From that moment, The Barclay began to write its history as the hotel of choice for those looking to take respite in this stately residential hotel of international prestige. Today, the InterContinental New York Barclay remains Manhattan’s preeminent luxury hotel after undergoing the most ambitious restoration in its history. Combining sophistication and contemporary design, while staying true to its original Federalist style details, The Barclay exudes confidence and warmth, delivering the same residential feel with modern comfort and flexibility introduced to the world in 1926. ... more   less
