The Hyatt Grand Central New York often disappoints guests regarding room conditions, with many calling for refurbishments due to outdated decor and maintenance issues. While its location near Grand Central Station is consistently lauded, the hotel's value is questioned due to overpriced amenities and hidden fees.
Service quality is another pain point, with reports of unresponsive staff and slow problem resolution. Mixed cleanliness feedback and underwhelming amenities further tarnish its reputation, although the convenience of its central location remains a highlight for visitors.

We stayed here for 10 days over Christmas and New Years and were impressed with the size of the rooms and the location of the hotel. Rooms were large with a sizeable bathroom and the location was right on top of Grand Central Station which was very convenient. The market downstairs and the $15 per day credit to use there was also very beneficial - you could buy hot drinks, pre made meals, snacks and toiletries.

The hotel has a privileged location next to Grand Central Terminal (it's linked to it but the doors close in the evening so you need to walk out of the Terminal and into the building, it's not long though, about 50 mts at worst). Quite ideal for late nights out (we went to the US Open and matches went quite late). The terminal provides access to several subway lines. Unfortunately we were on a budget so we didn't try the breakfast or bars of the hotel, but there are plenty of dining options in the area, even within the terminal and in the small market. In terms of comfortability, the bed was comfortable and rooms had everything one needed for the stay. Personnel would tidy and clean the place daily (our room was across their rest/storage area and they were arguing loudly once, that was a bit yikes). We were aware of the destination fee and other charges but they were not astronomical as some claimed in other comments. Also there was a guy at the front desk (shame I didn't take his name) who tried to explain in Spanish the info he had received from our booking, so credits for that (since here it's stated they only strictly speak English. Overall an enjoyable stay.

Large hotel next to Central Station on 42nd, excellent location for getting around but not too quiet especially outside amid traffic, bums and vendors. The room is very spacious with a large comfortable bed and a sitting area that is also practical for eating something. Being on the 20th floor and on the side it was also quite quiet. There is a small fridge and a large TV with only American channels, the wi-fi is quite fast even if it disconnects often. Poor lighting. The bathroom is very small, camper sink and shower created in the tub with a 70s curtain, water pressure just enough for washing. Towels and toiletries given at random, conditioner abounds. The furniture in general is very worn, carpet on all floors except the bathroom. You pay an additional 45 dollars in taxes and services per night, it is not clear which services, but 15 dollars a day are included to spend in the sparse internal bar/market where, given the prices, you just have an American coffee and a croissant and then go beyond . Staff at the bar really unfriendly and efficient. At check in they ask for a deposit of 100 dollars per night charged to a credit card which they return after leaving the hotel. I personally didn't leave tips.

Firstly, the two stars are given purely on it's location alone, next door to the Grand Central Station meant you could get on the subway to any landmark within the City. Now to the Hotel it 'self Avoid. I completely agree with all other reviews here regarding the cleanliness and the rude obnoxious staff. Be prepared to wait over an hour to check in, as they had two staff trying to manage hundreds of guests. I believe it's a con that they always try to pressure you into an upgrade for extra $40 per night. The room it 'self was not clean, there was dust all over the bedside tables, didn't give you fresh towels, just folded over the used ones and on our third day i had to hunt down the cleaner myself just to try and get some more toilet roll and fresh towles as they didn't even stock it up when you can clearly see it's running out. Be prepared for lots of noise as this hotel is that old and dated that the walls and floors are so thin you can hear everything around you. The worst part of all was the staff. They couldn't care less how they speak and treat you, if anything you are just an inconvenience rather than their guest. They'll give you attitude no matter what it is you need to speak with them about. On our last day at 11:10AM we were just leaving the room for check out when a man called our room demanding that we leave the room now and then slammed the phone down on my partner. Appalling for a Hyatt standard of hotel chain. Choose somewhere else within Midtown to make your trip as best you can, because if you don't you'll end up dealing with all this i have pointed out and all the other reviews which echo what i'm talking about.

Firstly the only positive is the location, that's it. The rest is terrible.
The hotel is old and needed a refresh decades ago. The room was dirty and it was the first time I have entered a room to the remnants of the previous guests' food still on the carpet, perhaps it was a Christmas present from the hotel, it was Christmas eve after all! The aircon had two temperatures, very hot and very cold and it oscillated between the two, irrespective of what temperature you had programmed it to be!
Housekeeping was poor, obviously they are not adept at using a vacuum, they also didn't clean the room at all during our 5 day stay, and we had to chase them for that most basic provision of providing towels, they took the used ones away and didn't replace them. In fact, during the whole stay they simply made the bed!
Now to the con. You are charged $39.99 per day as a resort fee which gives you nothing. Included in that is a $15 credit in their marketplace mini shop where you can buy overpriced snacks and drinks. They declare that there is a 20% discount at the 'Edge' tourist attraction, except there isn't, the concierge even tried to tell me that benefit was not on the website, when I was reading directly from it. Oh and they charge $4 a bag to store your luggage on departure day.
I cannot comment on the food and beverage options as I didn't bother.
The hotel is cramped, overcrowded (typical wait times of 15+ minutes for the elevators/lifts). Did I mention this to the management? Nope! Why? They would not care if the attitude of the check in staff is an indicator and in any case, I suspect all rooms are the same.
I would avoid if I were you.

After checking into the hotel, and getting to the room, there was no water in the room, after asking the front desk to where I could find some water, I was abruptly told that the hotel did not have any water; Ricardo was unprofessional and seemed unwilling to help. I was directed to CVS after asking again where I could find bottled water. The location charges a $45 nightly resort fee and charges a $4.00/bag storage fee after checking out. Water in the room was yellow. Shower and sink dispensed yellow water.

Pros: Great location, right next to grand central station so it's easy to get around. Lobby was nice and check in was quick. At least 10 elevators so there's usually little to no wait for a elevator. Has a market with a OK selection of drinks and snacks but it's pricey. Large nice TV in the room. Cons: For the price the rooms were disappointing. Decor was bland, bathroom was in poor condition (cracked and chipped tiles, dirty walls, sink cabinet was falling apart and had signs of water damage and ceiling paint was cracked and chipped), and upon check in there was trash left in the mini fridge. Also for a room that has 2 double beds it was always supplied with towels for 3 people when we had 4 people in the room. The Ac was poor and room never felt very cold. There's a mandatory $40 a night resort fee that other than a daily $15 credit to the market includes stuff you're never going to us. So basically your paying $40 a day for a few drinks and snacks. Other issues the phone in the room didn't work and upon investigating it wasn't even plugged in. I'd have plugged it in myself but there appeared to be no where to plug it in. Notifyed the front desk several times and they never fixed it. Ordinarily this would not have been a issue but since we kept having a request additional towels it was annoying to have to go to the lobby and wait in line to do so. On the first day housekeeping brought several additional sets of towels which housekeeping took away the next day and only replaced with 3 sets of towels again resulted in another trip to the lobby to request more towels. Again phone not working. This time we hid the extra towels in the closet so housekeeping wouldn't take them away. Overall if you're here for work it's a good location. If your here for vacation I'd look somewhere else

We really love Hyatt and typically only book Hyatts, and was disappointed with our experience at the Grand Central NYC hotel. The location was perfect, conveniently located next to Grand Central, beautiful lobby and great service in the hotel restaurant/bar located in the lobby.
We booked a Junior Suite for our family of 3 based on other reviews & pictures of a large or pull out couch for our kids to sleep one. We were incredibly disappointed in the ADA suite they put us in. Most of the time when we had an issue and called the front desk no one would answer, so you'd have to go down to the desk for everything. There was no additional bedding in our room to make up the little bench for our daughter to sleep on. The suite was weird, no door or privacy between parlor & master. Assumed this was due to the ADA. The bathroom had zero counter pace for 3 people staying 3 nights. It was basically just a sink and no additional storage. Tiolet was a commercial grade with no tank (potential storage space besides the bathroom floor). Our room safe not only died but malfunctioned. Not their fault, but certainly changed our plans since we had to go downstairs to tell them, wait an hour for someone to come and retrieve our belongings locked inside. Our room at check in was not completely stocked. Missing all coffee cups, k cups etc.
We really wanted to give 4+ stars but felt like this could have been a better stay. The hotel restaurant bar closes every afternoon 12:30- 5. This doesn't seem to best serve the guests, you can buy drinks in their market cafe or pay $40/daily for club access to a bar.

Me and my partner stayed at the Hyatt Grand Central New York for 5 nights. The hotel is in a great location, it’s right next to grand central station which is convenient when travelling around on the subway however it is also a great location if your preference is to walk rather than taking the subway as it is close by to lots of different sights. When we first arrived we were greeted pleasantly by the doormen and were impressed by the hotel lobby. The only bad experience we had whilst staying here was when we checked in. The staff member who checked us in seemed as though she couldn’t care less to be honest. She wasn’t very informative about anything and was just very vague. When I asked questions about for example the daily spend we got at the shop in the hotel, she answered me as though my question was ridiculous and made me feel like I should just know what she was talking about. She also asked for a credit card but didn’t explain whatsoever what it was for and the charges she was about to put on it, she just took the card, swiped it and gave it back, later on we went back to the reception and asked another member of staff what was charged on the card and why and he was very helpful and apologetic as to why that hadn’t been explained to us by his colleague. Just was not a professional check in experience that we expected from a 4 star hotel. Apart from that our stay was great ! We chose to stay in a junior suite rather than a standard room and it made all the difference, it was like our own little apartment ! Super spacious and the bed was so comfy. The room was cleaned daily with fresh bedding and towels. We were also entitled to a $15 daily spend at the little store in the hotel where you can spend it on drinks or snacks which was great ! Overall we would definitely recommend staying at this hotel and we would definitely stay here again !

If traveling with family, the Grand Hyatt suites are a great value--very large and clean by NYC standards. GREAT location. The room featured a large living room with pull out single bed (sleeps 3), dining area, TV and fridge. Master bedroom/bathroom also had a TV and fridge, safe and a very comfortable King bed. Room and hotel were very clean, quiet and the blackout blinds made for great sleeping. Hotel staff was very accommodating-, needed multiple blankets brought up for the pullout. The market downstairs was great for quick snacks, breakfast and Starbucks coffee. My 12-yo child thought the pull out bed was uncomfortable, but it is what it is. Would probably be better for a smaller child who could have just slept on the couch with the cushions.
I've stayed in "cooler" hotels in "cooler" neighborhoods in NYC, but for a family vacation, this definitely checks the boxes for size, location and value.
