This is an historical hotel that has been used as a venue for many movies. Its lobby and foyer are beautiful and filled with wonderful murals. Thomas Edison turned on its lights when it opened its doors in 1931. Its staff is friendly and helpful. However the room needs work. The sink didn’t drain even after housekeeping tried to fix it. The thermostat was stuck and couldn’t be adjusted. The beds were fairly comfortable and towels were plentiful. Breakfast was included. And you can’t beat the location in the heart of the theater district. We booked it through Hotel Tonight at a substantial discount.
My parents stayed at the Hotel Edison in 1951 on their honeymoon and came back to celebrate their 70th anniversary . They were treated like roylaty by the entire staff and i can not say enought wonderful things about the hotel and the staff . The customer service can not be beat and the staff can not do enough for their guests . The hotel is very old time elegant and the rooms are nice and clean and Covid safe. They upgraded my mom and dad to a suite which was lovely adn due to their age they had a walk in shower , which was very thoughful. Security is tight , you can not get up to the rooms withought a key car , which you also need for the elevator . My parents raved about the staff and the service that they received . The Edison had a team meeting before my parents arrival to let the staff know about the special occassion , so everyone greeted them by name and congratulated them on their anniversary .Special thanks to Scott and Rommel for making this a perfect weekend . MY parents are planning on returning for the 75th . i live in Manhattan and am going to send all of my out of town guests to The Hotel Edison because it is beautiful, clean and safe and they treat everyone like family . Thank you to all the staff as you made this weekend so special !!!…
Our rooms were on the 4th floor. Myself and my husband had a double room. It was compact, but had everything we needed. You obviously pay more for larger rooms, I didn't pay Plaza prices therefore I didn't receive a Plaza sized room but it was clean, cosy, comfortable. Bottled water and nice toiletries provided and an ice machine on the corridor. A second nightstand would have been useful but did not make or break my stay. Our teenage daughters room had 2 queen beds as requested and this larger room overlooked the Barrymore Theatre and street. Lovely cleaning staff did a great job each day. There is construction in the area, it`s a huge city with always something being built – some drilling noises during the day, but we were out and about every day, I didn`t come to NYC to sit in my room. 30000 steps a day ensured a good nights sleep. Friendly efficient check-in. Be aware that you may need to pay a resort fee. This is a feature of NYC hotels. do your research and you won't get a surprise I can`t believe some of the complaints I have read about the Edison on here, some people need a reality check! Loved the atmosphere, history, murals and 30s decor. Wine evening was fun, a couple of glasses of free wine (a bonus in an expensive city!) We spent a pleasant hour talking with pilots from Mexico Airlines who stay at the Edison when they fly into New York, probably would never have met them only for the wine hour. Grab and go breakfast was fast and a perfect quick bite for mornings that we wanted to be up and out early. Choose one from a croissant or piece of fruit and one from a breakfast bap or granola with yoghurt and then a coffee or juice, to take to your room. we also used the $5 sit down breakfast on a couple of occasions too. Remember to factor tax into the bill and of course the tip. If you are interested in seeing a show, the hotel is just steps away from all the theatres. We were privileged to have tickets for Hamilton and didn`t even need to wear our coats as the hotel rear entrance is directly across the street from the Richard Rodgers Theatre. We enjoyed a fab evening in the Rum House bar located with the Edison. Around €30 + tip for 2 gin and tonics but the jazz quartet playing made it worth every penny, I felt like I was in a 1930s speakeasy, wish I had been wearing a flapper dress and cloche hat! As mentioned by others, you show your room keycard to access the lifts to your room, no exceptions – it ensured that no one was on the room floors who shouldn`t be there. Though it is so close to Times Square the area felt safe, our teenage daughters (15 and 18) enjoyed roaming the city together and often walked to Central Park themselves for a morning or early evening stroll The hotel concierge organised a shuttle back to Newark airport, a minibus shared with another family of 3 - $100 for 4 of us, great value (plus tip of course) When you are out and about watch out for cyclists, lethal!! They whizz in and out of traffic and pay no regard to stoplights, traffic direction or pedestrian crossings, they were the most dangerous thing we encountered on our 5 night stay. The Times Square area is just a 1 minute walk away – it`s busy and packed and smells of cannabis – there are so many better places to eat a few minutes further walk. Try the Westway Diner on 9th Avenue between 43rd and 44th streets, a 10 minute walk away – extensive menu, excellent service, delicious food. I hope I get the chance to revisit New York city and if I do I wouldn`t hesitate to stay at the Edison again, well done to all the staff there. …
Rooms very dated window was hanging off in the first room so we were moved to another which had workmen banging next to us all day every day for the whole of our stay. The taxes they charge were sprung upon us. Asking us to pay more and promising we would get a refund when we checked out. Didn’t happen! And they seem unable to answer my emails requesting this!! Rum bar in the hotel asked us for age ID and refused entry as we didn’t have it with us. We’re 55 and 61 years of age!! My advice would be stay somewhere else!!
We had a wonderful weekend at our Hotel Edison stay. We got in early, and the staff happily took our baggage so we could explore the city. When one of my kids started feeling ill, we called the desk, and they hooked us up with an early check in. Ordering from the restaurant downstairs was easy and delicious. Staff checked in on us to make sure the room met our needs, and helped me get snacks for my sick kiddo! I will stay here whenever I head to NYC in the future!
Can't get any better than this, if you want to spend time seeing shows in New York City. Very convenient to the TKTS half-price ticket booth. The room was very clean and quiet. Have been before and will continue to stay here when in the city.
The hotel was in an excellent location, the staff was friendly, professional, and accommodating. I really appreciated staying at a hotel that had dining availability as well as entertainment at an affordable price. When in NYC, I’ll be back.
Location, Location, Location! Right near the Richard Rodgers Theatre where Hamilton is playing on Broadway. Close to Juniors for Cheesecake and a late night stroll on Times Square. Beautiful art deco building, clean, and courteous staff. Felt very safe. Please know that you are in the city, so your room won't be large. But really how much time will you be in your room? You have an incredible city to see!!!
We’ve stay at the Edison for over 25 years! We’ve never had a bad stay. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very clean. The art deco decor is beautiful! The restaurants attached are great! Can’t wait to return!
My wife and I traveled to Manhattan for a getaway weekend. We were looking for an affordable hotel in midtown for our purposes, and the Hotel Edison more than delivered! Great location for a base of operations AND the front desk offered us an upgraded room upon check in. On Friday there is music and free wine on offer in the lobby which was a nice touch to start the evening. Accommodations were good and we enjoyed our stay, thank you!
