A good and durable long-term love relationship has at its heart, this one fact: Rather than caring only about looks or an idealized image, personality and compatibility matter ABOVE ALL. Check-in at The Carlyle is more courteous, reassuring, efficient and mind soothing after four hours in a car - so much so that it's almost a mental spa experience. Once... More

It is the third time we come here for lunch with the family. The food (meat, fish) is very good but not the best in town, a bit old school; the wine list is adequate for their level but the service is sublime. You feel you are treated in an upscale English establishment. Attentive yet not too intrusive, our head... More

For years, I've admired The Carlyle from afar. It's where the stars and presidents of yore rested their heads, and where my beloved Woody Allen plays with his jazz band on Monday nights. Even while living in New York City, the Carlyle was still a place I longed to stay. So, when on a whim, my boyfriend and I found... More

Great classic and elegant hotel. The staff are the best that we have ever experienced. We had trouble with our air conditioning. They did the best they could to accommodate us. Everything else was great. We walked all over the city. Central Park is very close. The concierge (Waldo) was very helpful. He arranged a driver for us which was... More

First time staying at this elegant hotel. I was not disappointed. Beautiful decor. Our suite was spotless and classic. Bed was soooo comfy. Waitstaff was very pleasant as well as accommodating. Breakfast buffet was over the top. Could not imagine anyone not finding something wonderful to start the day. A truly pampering experience.

My wife and I spent three nights at what I can best describe as the classiest hotel I have ever experienced. I have to admit that I am mostly a "Holiday Inn budget" type of traveller but since we were celebrating our 25th anniversary I wanted a unique experience. The staff at the Carlyle hit it out of the park!... More

This is a wonderful staff and beautiful place to stay, all around. The hotel is classic in style, with beautiful antique furniture in the rooms. But the overall feeling is light and spacious, and rooms are more updated than anywhere I've stayed. The beds are soft and comfortable. And the large windows offer excellent views.

We are simple people and our expectations are not exceptional. Having said that, this hotel is rated a 5 star and Frommer's rates it as one of the best of the best, therefore, one would assume that there would be a lot of attention to detail. Here is our experience. Upon using the bathroom for the first time, I discovered... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
