It is not often you encounter a hotel that immediately feels like your home. At the moment I entered the hotel, I felt that this was going to be good, and it got even better. When I entered my room, which was beautiful and stylish, I felt at home. It is probably the first time i took the time to...

I also cannot begin to thank you enough for allowing us to be your “second home” while in New York and I hope we will be able to...

We recently spent 4 nights at thee Carlyle for my wife's 60th celebration. The Carlyle is well located close to upper west side shopping, restaurants, museums and not too far from 5th avenue shopping. Our room was a very large corner room on the third floor overlooking Madison Ave. - an upgrade. While it is close to the street level...

I booked a suite, more like a one bedroom 2 bathroom apartment to host a cocktail party for my 50th birthday. True to NYC form the kitchen was nothing more than a small walk in closet, nonetheless, my friend (the chef) was able to pull off some masterful work. My choice was this suite with a large dinning room vs...

My first visit to New York, a 5 night 6 day stay...a birthday gift from my husband. We visited in mid October 2014 which was the most perfect time, not too cold or too hot...just RIGHT! The trees still had their leaves and were filled with the gorgeous colors of fall. Our trip from the airport to the Carlyle in...

As a surprise my wife booked a weekend stay at the Carlyle in celebration of our 15th wedding anniversary. The hotel rates itself as 5-stars. It is antiquated. Devoid of its touted amenities and a sham operation. Not only did we experience the sense of elitism but the staff displays an attitude of condescension. I went to breakfast alone on...

We stayed with a package deal that included dinner and a show at the Café Carlyle. The check-in itself was a wonderful experience. Then guided by a white gloved elevator attendant to one of the most beautiful rooms ever. We had a killer view of the New York skyline. We spent the afternoon exploring Madison Ave. and Central Park, right...

Opened the door to the lovely room and expected good things. Disappointed by everything from the dirty carpet, shabby furniture and unclean bathroom to the ridiculously expensive room service and the never-working room key. One bright spot was the ever present, always African-American, white gloved elevator operator who had a master key and could let me into my room, despite...

Please allow me to express my sincerest apologies for the inconveniences and disappointments you experienced during your stay, from the issues you had with the room key to the room condition. It is simply inexcusable, and I know my apologies cannot even begin to make amends for the frustrations you felt while visiting New York. We would very much like...

My husband and I stayed here sadly, for only one night. The hotel is absolutely beautiful. From the time you enter, there is a peaceful, elegant ambiance. The staff are all super professional yet friendly and helpful. I really wish we could have stayed longer.

We stayed for but a brief moment. Overnight in Manhattan for a local celebration. But even that momentary glimpse underscored the tradition expected and elegance delivered. There is nothing technologically showy or flashy here. Millennials may not approve...but the fine appointments, the gracious service, the classic decor all combine to score a great overnight stay!

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
