I had my doubts about this hotel, but wound up staying here anyway because availability was limited around Penn Station. My doubts were fully justified. For a price that is not a particular bargain, I got a tiny airless windowless room with no evident ventilation at all, which smelled of mold. There was no place to sit. Worse, it was... More

My wife and I stayed recently at the Chelsea Inn. We found the service to be helpful, and the room better than we expected. The entire room seemed brand new, including the bathroom, as well as decor throughout the rest of the inn. The decor was modern and clean. There was some noise late at night from across the street,... More

We stayed at the Chelsea Inn for two weeks. The location was perfect being close to subway, restaurants and bars. Our room was very small but this did not concern us because we only slept there and the bed was very comfortable and the air conditioning was excellent as it was quite hot and the bathroom was a good size.... We booked a junior studio for 3 adults and were disappointed. The room contained a queen bed and a futon - which was supposed to sleep an adult. The description said that there would be a refrigerator but there was no room in the studio for this. Very misleading. Best thing about the hotel is the exit.

This hotel is under renovation so the check in area is quite a mess. The renovated rooms are quite nice but on the small side. There is no lift so be prepared to haul bags up some very narrow stairs. This will quite the nice place when all is finished.

The hotel was disgusting. They booked us in on the 5th floor, but never told us there was no lift. We had to carry our own luggage, which was 6 suitcases and four back packs ourselves. No one offered to help. The hotel was being renovated, but we were never told this, the smell, dust, dirt, noise were too much,... More

On arrival, my thirst thought was "God, what have we done!". The entrance looks rather seedy and is surrounded by building notices. However, do not let first impressions full you - the interior is recently renovated (still ongoing) and very clean. The rooms are tidy and spacious enough (we spent four nights here) and again very clean. The air-conditioning is... More

I went for a 3-night stay with my husband and 3-year old daughter. The location is just perfect - close to anything you need. Rooms and bathroom are renovated. I must though, advise that what they call junior suite is not a suite, it's just a bedroom. And the bedroom is really small (well, this is the Manhattan reality). There... More

Great location. However, they are currently having work done to the front lobby area. What was not enjoyable is the lack of hot water! During our 4 day stay only 1.5 of my showers were hot (tried to have 2 showers a day due to the hot sticky weather). After speaking with the front desk early evening we magically had... More

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighbourhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets- much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighbourhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being the home of a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
