We stayed here for a couple of nights on the run up to Christmas as the location seemed good and it seemed good value - should have known by the nightly rate it would not be great. We checked in as 2 Spire members, with no recognition by front desk. We had asked for a high floor on the reservation to be told be best they could do was 4th floor (which was a blessing in reality) and they wouldn’t even entertain the idea of an upgrade. The room was basic and tired. The bed is the shortest bed I’ve ever slept in as my feet were hanging over the end. They are not providing any housekeeping using COVID as an excuse for cost saving. Corridors were filthy, clearly they never get cleaned. We were glad we were in the 4th floor as it allowed us to use the steps as the elevator situation is completely inadequate. Only 2 (slow) elevators for a 40 storey building. We used the stairs for the duration of our stay as the elevators were always packed to the gunnels whenever they hit our floor (that’s where the COVID measures go out of the window!!) On check out morning, with all our luggage we had no option but to wait for the elevator. We were stood there 55 minutes, with the cars that actually stopped having no space. In the end we managed to jump on an up direction ride, went to the top floor and back down! A good job we were under little time pressure as this could easily have led us missing a flight. We mentioned this at check out, a gesture of IHG points was offered, 5 weeks on these have not been credited. Never again, this was a terrible experience in every way.

As IHG Rewards Spire members, we appreciate your loyalty to our hotels, and we regret not living up to your expectations. We are known for our attention to detail and outstanding service; therefore, we apologize that this was not your experience. Your comments will be shared with our team, and we are grateful for your patience. We are also sorry for the issues you had with our elevators during your stay. During peak season, our elevator wait time does increase compared to other times of the year. While we know this does not alleviate your frustration, we do want to say we are very grateful for your understanding. We hope you will allow us in the future to provide you with the hospitality you deserve. Greg Riley Area General Manager

Holiday Inn Financial District great location. Lot's of local amenities including bars, food and shopping nearby. Easy access to subway and ferry to States Island. Small check in/ reception area but quick. Lifts are a problem at peak times. Rooms are shabby and need updating. Hotel facilities basic and limited. Would return as location is great and view from higher floors fab.

We often stay here but I think this will be the last time. It’s frustrating having to wait an absolute age for the elevators in the morning. They are so small and are covering so many floors that when it eventually arrives it is usually full. But this time, the hotel room stank of cannabis. Someone was clearly smoking in their room and it was coming through the bathroom vent. It smells foul and it’s impossible to get rid of. Opening the window didn’t help! Every day, coming back to a room that stinks of weed is just not acceptable. Kick the offenders out!!!! It’s not hard to locate the epicenter of the smell!

The location is great, right near Lower Manhattan attractions, convenience stores and two subway lines. The room is small (but that's to be expected in NY), the bed was very comfortable, and the soundproofing is great (although that could have been because I was on the 30th floor!) As mentioned by other reviewers, as there are 50 floors, at times there is a long line for the elevators which isn't really what you want after a long day. I also didn't find the front desk staff particularly welcoming or helpful. The noise coming from the ice machine outside my room was also quite disturbing. Additionally, when I called after I had checked out to find out if a missing item had been located, I wasn't called back, even though they told me I would be and had to call to chase. All in all, I would recommend this hotel if you need to stay in Lower Manhattan, but wouldn't choose to stay there myself again as I wasn't that impressed.

Front desk staff is A+, 5 star as is the hotel. Great hotel! Some staff need training on speaking in foreign languages to patrons who may understand. One lady called one of our group a not so nice term in her native tongue but we were lucky enough to speak it also and say "Yo hablo Español" to which she was quiet the rest of the elevator ride with her fellow worker.
