"Hip" and "boutique" has become a metaphor for dirty and unclean. The "hotel room" was bare bones, dirty, with previous guests used personal toys left behind end tables. The small kitchen was barely usable - no under cabinet lighting, no dishwasher, small fridge, coffee maker dirty and unclean, same for the broken toaster, no dishwashing soap for even the small amount of utensils and glassware. No effort was made to clean underneath the bed; the bed itself sagged. The room view is into tenement like housing (if I wanted a West Side Story experience, I would go to the theater rather than pay for this cheap ...calling it a hotel is a stretch). The balcony is a joke (at worse a hazard (make sure the balcony door is locked.) The corner space between the top mattress and boxspring was dirty, crumbs, dust, etc - clearly had not been vacuumed or cleaned since the Roosevelt administration. Wi-Fi is subpar. Another effort by a non-corporate hospitality company (or whoever owns this dump) to milk tourists who come to New York by renovating whatever this building used to be into a sub standard "hotel" rooms and skating by on "location."…
Where to begin... This hotel is a complete bait and switch! The pictures were impressive on their website; however, the hallways remind me more of a dorm room. I asked for a premium room, and I got a room next to the elevator where I could hear guests coming and going all hours of the evening. So much for a restful night's sleep. The worst part was how I was greeted. When I arrived, I felt I was bothering the employees to do their job. Rude!! This is the hospitality business, is it not? I will never recommend this hotel to anyone. If anything, I will warn them of it.
The hotel was nothing like the website makes it appear. Check in was at a small booth, no lobby (by reading glasses other reviews it appears the glamorous looking lobby and bar is actually in another building). My room looked like an old college door room and had an unpleasant odor. Elevator getting to room was filthy. I left even though it was 9:30pm when I arrived and despite the fact I prepaid.. I should have been tipped off at check in when I was required to put down a security deposit- to stay in a hotel room??!! This felt like a youth hostel, yet charged $400 per night. Never again! Do not be fooled by website- total false advertising.
Read a lot of reviews about a musty smell and I believe it’s from the mold. Found black mold coming through the cracks in the walls. On top of the smell and mold; the balcony door didn’t open. The fridge didn’t work. The shower water pressure was terrible. The rooms are always hot because you can’t control the AC. Mystery strains on the bed frame and head board. Sink doesn’t drain well. Absolutely terrible visit. Please stay away for your own health.
There is virtually no reception. It is more like a kiosk. The room smelled like moth balls and the toilet seat was dirty with feces and urine. Do I need to say more? I recommend staying at a different hotel. There are plenty of them in NY.
The location is good and some of the rooms funky. Our room had a kitchenette with a gas oven(???) and it was right next to the bed. For the price, it was not bad and it was clean. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Be AWARE that there is no storage space for luggage if your room is not ready. Luggage is place in the small lobby next to the front desk for the staff to watch, however, if they need to step away it is left unattended.
I’ve stayed here three times and will continue to book at this hotel. The rooms are gorgeous and have everything you would need. I stayed in the room with the roof deck and it was absolutely beautiful. I loved the view of the city and you can’t beat how spacious it is. I’ve also stayed in their rooms with a balcony and once without. All of the rooms were clean, wifi worked well. Any issues were handled right away, excellent customer service by employees. Just plain comfort. It’s a must stay spot if you want to get around the city. Also the location is prime. I will definitely be back. Thank you Hotel 32|32
Beware of a room in the North tower! Basically it’s a service entrance…. When we arrived the lift wasn’t working. Our room was in the 10th floor and no help or apology was given, so we had to take the stairs with our luggage. FUN! They ask you to pay a deposit, but to be fair, we received the whole amount back (after much argument and no paperwork). Room was small but everything worked fine apart from the windows (latches were old and not double glazing). We booked the room with the outside deck which was huge BUT had lots of pipes/chimneys so it was insanely noisy 24/7. Outside Furniture was old and cushions needed a good wash! We didn’t try the room service or restaurant (limited options and wayyy above NYC prices). There was a constant odd smell of weed in the hallway?! Staff were pretty disinterested. Great location and plenty on your door step, but wouldn’t stay again. The experience was more like staying in a hostel and for the money, not at all worth it…
My husband checked in an out of this hotel. He reported to me that the room he was given was dirty and pokey. There was some unusable space that he said looked like it had once been an elevator shaft. I understand from other reviews that there are two buildings. He was clearly put in the bad one.
My wife and I stayed here with our two adult daughters in and adjoining room. Very reasonably priced and well-located. Our rooms were two of three in the south tower on the 16th floor. Big enough (especially for NYC) with balconies to enjoy some fresh air. All of our expectations were met -- friendly and helpful staff, great location, and a place to store our luggage after checking out. We will stay here again this summer when we return.
