The Empire Hotel boasts an enviable location near Lincoln Center and Central Park, which guests often laud, although some feel renovations are overdue. While the lobby's charm is acknowledged, opinions on the atmosphere diverge, with the rooms' dated appearance and maintenance issues drawing criticism. Despite the cleanliness praised by many, there are occasional reports of inconsistency.
Travelers comment on the noise from both air conditioning units and street sounds, which can be bothersome. Service quality varies, with some staff members receiving compliments and others being seen as less attentive. Additional fees and the condition of the rooms lead to mixed feelings about the hotel's value.

Detailed Reviews
I stayed here for 9 days with my family, we had two rooms, one room for our two teenage boys and the other room for me and my wife.
I’ll start with the good, after initially finding our rooms were a little on the small side, which wasn’t too much of an issue, we noticed that there was a very loud noise from the hotels air conditioning units that you can hear all day and all night from outside the windows, the noise is so loud that it keeps you up all night so after our first night I asked the hotel to change our rooms, they happily upgraded us and we moved into two different rooms that were slightly bigger and had street views and no noise from the aircon units outside.
This hotels location is great, it’s opposite the Lincoln center and the subway is very close, walking distance a few mins. There are many bars and restaurants close by and Central Park is less then 10 mins walk.
You can walk from this hotel to many attractions, Times Square, fifth avenue, broadway, etc all are about 20 mins approx walking time. So the location is a very big plus point, the staff at this hotel are very polite and helpful, the doormen/bellman, receptionists are all very courteous and helpful, the rooftop bar is very nice, there’s also a rooftop pool, it’s a bit small, but still a nice addition to have a pool in the hotel.
Now to the disappointing aspects we experienced, even though we was switched to two different rooms upon request which I had to pay extra for, there was a big difference between our room and our kids room. Both rooms were on the same floor and next to each other, so you would expect them to be the same especially if you’re paying extra for them, however they were not the same.
Our room had no curtains, they were missing, you could see the holes in the ceiling where the curtains were suppose to be attached to, the kids room had curtains, our room also had wallpaper peeling off and you could see the wall behind it, our room also had a much smaller Tv then the boys who had a huge Tv screen. Our rooms shower was a bit grubby and had mould and had the sink plug missing, and there was lots of little flies coming out of the sinks drain as there was no plug in the sink, unlike the boys room, they had a much nicer bathroom and shower, much cleaner, and sink had the drainage plug, we had no refrigerator in our room, but the boys room did. There was paint peeling off the bathroom doorframes and it all felt dated and worn out and dusty, but the boys room was much better than ours. Considering we payed extra for an upgrade and that the rooms were next to each other you would expect both rooms to be the same with amenities and standard and quality of rooms, but one room had everything whereas the other didn’t and was a little dirty and needed some work doing to it. So I’m disappointed in that aspect especially when you you pay the same amount for both rooms.

I hadn't visited the Empire Hotel in over a decade for a US Open party. We originally booked on a 3rd party website for a one night stay, but we liked the room enough that we booked directly with the hotel for several more nights. Pasquale, at the front desk, was extremely helpful in making our transition seamless such that we didn't need to change rooms.
Book direct for better value. If you're looking for a slick, trendy spot, this isn't your hotel unless you're nostalgic for the original Gossip Girl (XOXO).
That being said, the staff is extremely kind and responsive. Transportation is close (Lincoln Center is steps away and the subway to downtown is convenient too). This boutique hotel has a great location plus you can grab some reasonably priced food at the nearby Epicure Boulud (by famed French chef Daniel Boulud) or Rosetta.

This hotel appears great in the pictures, and whilst the lobby looks grand when you enter it, it basically stops there. This review is positive, but the hotel could be so much better for the money you spend on it and the location.
Staff are friendly and helpful. However, we had a key issue when we arrived. It appears the staff know keys stuggle as they tell you not to put it anywhere near anything electronic. Upon arrival we were given the wrong room number, so late at night we were trying to access a room that wasn't ours. The staff member laughed and gave us the correct room number only for the key not to work (we were just holding it) we went up and down the lifts twice! With no apology
Note: When you check in, staff offer you bottled water (free), take it as there is nothing else in the hotel (other than pre booked roof top bar)
Rooms are basic, spacious, and clean but tired. The aircon unit is cold but so loud that you can barely hear yourself think, let alone talk. In the room, there is a fridge in the wardrobe, a small table iron board, iron, and an umbrella.
Note: There is no safe in the room. This worried us as we had to keep hold of our passports all the time.
The bathroom is clean and has a hair dryer in the cupboard under the sink. The hotel provides toiletries which are nice. The shower has fast raining hot water, and there are plenty of sized towels.
Note: There are no tea or coffee making facilities in the room.
There is no bar in the hotel, no restaurant, or anywhere to get food or drink.
The rooftop bar is lovely but not owed by the hotel and is very expensive. However, of the 3 days we were here, it was closed to private functions.. Not great! The hotel doesn't have any issues with you bringing food and drink back to your room. Starbucks is next door for a nice morning coffee.
The pool is hilarious. The hotel website makes it look so beautiful. It's not! It's very tiny both in length and width, and there are maybe 5 sunbeds. The pool is open from 11 am, and weather permitted. Disabled people could not access this area unless you had access to the service lift.
Overall, we enjoyed our time here but wouldn't return. The location is right next to Central Park and not too far from Times Square.

This hotel is the worst my wife and I ever stayed in. They charge an exuberant amount of money and when you get to your room!!! The queen size bed is so low that it seems to be meant for children to stay in. This room accommodations are meant for the Munchkins from the Wizard Of Oz! The bathroom is so small, we had to leave the door to the bathroom open for us to have space to move around. This place charges you and yet they do not even have a small fridge in the room for you to store the warm complimentary bottles of water they offer at the front desk! For the amount of money they charge, they should offer complimentary breakfast but NOOO, not even a hot cup of coffee on a cold winters day! The hallways are dark need more lights! We have stayed at Hilton hotels, Hyatt hotels and paid less , received complimentary breakfast and have amenities in the room such as a microwave, coffee makers and mini fridge! We will never spent another dime at this place! Terrible!

I am a bit perplexed by the negative reviews as they certainly didn't align with our experience at the Empire Hotel. My wife and I were seeking a NYC "home away from home" in anticipation of many trips there, so we took a chance with the Empire Hotel (as we didn't want to pay the Four Seasons and Mandarin Oriental rates we are used to paying) to for the many longer stays we plan. We were very pleased with the room (an upper floor corner suite) and with the staff. We found everybody (and particularly the housekeeper and the front desk staff) to be very friendly and helpful. The location is absolutely perfect, including convenient walking distance to Central Park, Columbus Circle, and a nearby subway station for trains to the theater district, Soho and The Village. We also enjoyed the rooftop bar for brunch. We have already booked another stay over Christmas.

I don't typically write reviews as I am relatively easy to please and don't often complain. However, I feel compelled to write this one.
While the location of the Empire is great and the staff are helpful, my room was very rundown and I killed two cockroaches in my room, and observed another cockroach in the hotel lobby. I understand that it is New York City and you may see the occasional pest, but this felt out of the ordinary. In terms of the condition of my room, the wallpaper was peeling off the walls, the frame of the bed was peeling apart, and there was a chunk missing from the molding on the wall.
When I complained to the front desk about having killed the first cockroach, they were relatively dismissive. They did send housekeeping to clean it up and when I asked if they could offer next steps, they said they weren't sure what I meant. I asked if they could spray or offer a room change, and they said they would spray. The person from housekeeping was very kind and arrived promptly. After I killed a second cockroach, they were much more responsive and when I checked out, gave me a partial refund for the inconvenience, which was very appreciated.

Customer service is horrible!
We come to NYC three or four times a year and typically stay in Hilton or Marriott properties.
Because we had a Metropolitan Opera membership discount, we sprung for a corner suite at the Embassy—an “upgrade” if you will.
It took over 3 hours to get onto our room. We tried to take a lesser room as people with smaller rooms were strolling right in. Finally, after 3 hours and 20 minutes, we were told that it would be only be 10-15 minutes more—thirty minutes ago.
Writing in real time: Just got into our corner suite. As we were changing our clothes, housekeeping comes barreling through the door with a bed scarf.
What was supposed to be a one-day trip to the opera (a la “Pretty Woman”) turned into sleeping in the lobby with loud, annoying jazz blaring.

If you're planning to attend events at The Lincoln Centre, The Empire Hotel is the perfect place to stay. I booked a king-size room for my seven-night stay, which was on the seventh floor and overlooked the Lincoln Centre. The room was comfortable and warm—especially appreciated given the freezing temperatures outside.
Everything was spotlessly clean, and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. There were plenty of pillows, both soft and firm, to choose from. The bathroom was well-equipped with amenities, featuring both a rain shower and a handheld option. The water was always hot, with excellent pressure.
The housekeeping staff were friendly and attentive, taking great care of me throughout my stay. In fact, all the staff were welcoming and helpful, adding to the hotel's warm and inviting atmosphere.
If you're looking for a more upmarket experience, you might prefer the Marriott or Sheraton. But if you want a relaxed, reasonably priced stay in a great location, The Empire is a fantastic choice.

The Empire Hotel is very centrally located, right next to Lincoln Center. Room prices were different for the 4 nights we stayed there, the most expensive being a Friday night, but given its location, we thought the prices acceptable. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the rooms were clean and comfortable, apart from a tiny bathroom in one room with almost no space to stand in front of the sink. We would recommend it, but our only objection was that there were no facilities for making coffee or tea in the rooms. No kettle, to tea bags, no coffee maker, nothing. Definitely a disadvantage of staying here for those who like a cup of tea or coffee before going out. We were given kettles when we asked about it but no tea, coffee, cream, milk.

The hotel is very well located within walking distance of Central Park, mid-town and most of NYCs attractions. The tube is nearly a few hundred yards away providing access to the wider area. Around the hotel are many great breakfast options.
The hotel itself needs upgrading. We were very concerned reading many of the reviews before arriving. We had booked several months in advance and the more recent reviews raised concerns about a lack of cleanliness. It was not as bad as we had feared but certainly, there is no attention to detail and many areas are never cleaned. We did not have any unexpected guests as many had written but can understand how this may occur. The air conditioning in our room only partially worked and was very loud creating issues with sleeping. Thankfully walking everywhere tired our kids who did manage to sleep most of the time. Our room was inward-facing with no views and consequentially very dark. It felt quite oppressive with the correspondingly dark decor. We would recommend anybody staying requests a street view room following our experience.
Overall deserving of three stars but no more. We would look to stay elsewhere when next returning to NYC

I’m not sure. As a guest, they probably can’t stop you, but on the other hand the people who work there are trying to make a living and pay rent, so I’d suggest doing the BYO thing back in your room.
Unfortunately I cannot help with the answer. I have no idea. You need to contact the hotel directly.
The room had space to put in a microwave but we had no use for one. There was a coffee shop on the corner & we were very close to decent amenities. I was able to make a hot drink in my room. I didn’t know the hotel could offer this service
Good day. The pool is open daily, from 11am-7pm, weather permitting. The pool will close on Labor Day.
