I was in town for a short weekend trip to see the Yankees play the Red Sox, but I like to stay near Central Park, so I decided to try the JW Marriott Essex House. It's located on the southern tip of Central Park, which makes it a prime location. I had a park-view room, which was quite nice. The...

great service, accommodating staff. Views from the higher floors have great views of central park - bear in mind you'll have to ask for the park view when booking. Very centrally located. you can walk to times square from here. great clean newly decorated rooms when we visited in 2008. Mattress very comfortable and a great choice of pillows available.

By "decent value," of course I mean by Midtown standards. This hotel is a renovated older building, with all the constraints that implies. My room was small for anywhere else in North America but decently sized for New York. The room was comfortable, including the bed. The desk was narrow but usable. The bathroom is small by contemporary standards. The...

You just can't ask for a better location in NYC. Located on Central Park South so you are out of the hub bub of Times square and just a walk across the street to Central Park. My wife an I stayed here over Memorial Day Weekend and found the room to be exactly what we were looking for. A real...

May not rival a Ritz, may not rise to the glory of the past, may not be as opulent as some overseas JW's but I was very satisfied with the hotel. The room was large thouht it would benefit from some updating. The fact that they could not produce a key for me at check in was dealt with as...

My wife and I stayed at the Essex house for our "babymoon" weekend trip to NYC. I looked at all of the hotels near Central Park and this was the most affordable (at around $300/night). Overall, the service was good. Check-in was quick and the concierge was very friendly. Rooms were quiet and clean. We were hoping to have a...

The lovely lady on the front desk was friendly and helpful, really made us feel welcome. The room itself definitely needs an upgrade on fixtures, but had the most amazing views of the park so who cares! Room service was prompt and tasty. Overall really enjoyed staying here and wasn't too expensive.

I stayed at the Essex Hotel before it became a Marriott Hotel and back in the day, it was a hotel of distinction. Last month, we stayed for a 4-day weekend. The location is as good as it gets - directly facing Central Park and walking distance to sights and subways. The small lobby still has beautiful art deco architecture...

The service was okay but the restaurants service was horrible. Go to the Ritz or St regis instead. Was not worth the money! Our safe kept breaking, they didn't do anything to fix it. They just kept unlocking it with the key since the safe couldn't remember the pin we set.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
