Tempo by Hilton New York Times Square has garnered applause for its pristine rooms and state-of-the-art features, including tech-forward amenities like Bluetooth mirrors, which contribute to the hotel's chic ambiance. While its prime location near Times Square attractions is a highlight for guests, some have noted the rooms can feel cramped.
Service experiences vary, with reports of both commendable staff and occasional unresponsiveness. Visitors often appreciate the low noise levels yet express concerns over hidden fees, questioning the hotel's overall value.

Detailed Reviews
We decided to go for a last minute break to New York to celebrate my birthday and our anniversary from the 12th - 16th September. As we were using a substantial amount of flying club points to pay for the trip, we booked the hotel through Virgin Atlantic Holidays and Tempo by Hilton Times Square was the first (and most reasonably priced) option that was given on their site. I must confess I'd never heard of the Tempo brand before, but I trusted the Hilton name.
I have to say I was VERY impressed. The hotel couldn't be more perfectly located, it's literally just off Times Square (by the Tkts booth and the famous red racked seating) and you really feel the buzz of being right in the heart of it all. This does mean there is a constant city noise in your room - but don't stay in the heart of Times Square if you don't want a bit of noise/atmosphere!
The hotel itself is very modern, minimalistic, spotlessly clean and 'on trend' - very Instagram'able if that's your bag! Our room wasn't the largest, but again, do you come to NYC to spend all of your time in the hotel room!? The TV was big, the electric window blinds are a nice touch, and having full controls of the lights and blinds right next to each side of the bed is really useful.
There is a resort fee of $35 per room per night to pay to the hotel on top of what you've paid to your travel agent. We were aware of this, but a poor couple checking in just as we were checking out didn't - it's not a nice surprise if that's an extra $200+ to the cost of your trip that you haven't budgeted for. You do get some benefits in return for the resort fee (premium WiFi access, daily $10 food and beverage credit for use in selected hotel outlets, City Bike rental for two, daily $25 parking credit) - but we didn't use any of these benefits other than the WiFi.
The only negative I have is around Breakfast. Our booking through Virgin Atlantic Holidays said that it included Breakfast for 2 each day. What this turned into in reality was a daily $50 credit in the one in-house restaurant. As Breakfast is a 'per item' menu situation, and not a buffet, and the restaurant isn't the cheapest it's fair to say, you actually can't get a decent Breakfast for 2 people for $50. And again because it's a served Breakfast you have to add tips on top of what you spend. This is something I'll be picking up with Virgin Atlantic Holidays as I think this is misleading. But that being said, again, you are in the middle of NYC, so there are plenty of other (and cheaper) Breakfast options to be had.
All in all I would definitely recommend this hotel and would definitely stay again.

There is so much to recommend this hotel and i would have given 5 stars but for a few things that let it down.
First though this new hotel is in a fantastic location on the corner of times square .
Prior to our stay we had emailed to ask for conecting rooms on a high floor and we ended up with 2 loverly rooms on the 41st floor one of which (mine ! ) was a corner room with a stunning view into the square and across midtown.
I know its becoming more common but the daily destination charge is outrageous on top of what is already an expensive trip , almost $40 per day per room !
We were told this would give access to high speed internet which surely is common in most hotels now , and money towards valet parking , usless as most visitors i imagine will be from overseas and not have a car , money towards bike hire , if you fancy taking your life in your hands on New York's busiest streets and $10 credit towards food and beverage , but cannot be used in the market which is probably the only affordable option.
I know the hotel will reply that its common practice but it does'nt make it right or fair and just feels like an extra squeeze out of visitors pockets.
Also be aware an aditional charge will be taken as a deposit on each room at check in on top of this fee !!
On the plus side our rooms where very clean , with daily housekeeping , and the beds were really comfortable , and a fridge , really useful for drinks , but no in room mini bar available.
We were also a little suprised however that some of the items not found in the rooms that you would expect in a 4* hotel.
The bathroom was well stocked with large bottles of shower gel , soap , shampoo etc, but there were no extras such as shower caps or amenity kits with cotton pads etc as you usually find , also no robes available , or even an option to obtain these items from housekeeping , and suprisingly seemingly no room service available.
And while there was a lovely coffee machine replemished daily with new pods there were no tea bags or option to make a cup , and only cardboard cups for drinks rather than mugs or glasses which surely would be more enviromentally friendly ?
A bottle opener would also have been useful as we wrestled to open a bottle of beer one evening !
One concern we did have was in regards to safety and access to the hotel , initial arrival is to a lobby area on the street level where you take a lift to the reception on the 11th floor , and while there was usually some one in this area we were never asked to show our room key or proof we were guests , you did not need your key to activate these initial lifts , and even in the lobby we were often just asked which floor we wanted at the lifts .
This all being said it was a really good stay , just let down slightly by a few issues , in particular the 'destination charge' which is outrageous when you consider that Venice charges a day visitor 5 euros for the whole city !

My wife and I are Hilton members and were celebrating our 52nd anniversary. The original hotel we booked left the Hilton brand shortly before our stay. I searched Hilton properties in the midtown area and was impressed by the reviews the Tempo had. I booked and emailed Brian the Tempo's Guest Services Mgr. He quickly responded and promised a nice upgrade. Done deal we booked it! We were greeted at check in by John who did one of the best best welcome Diamond member greeting we had ever received. Our room was fabulous!! The rooms have plenty of USB plugs and has wall mounted power buttons to open drapes and shades plus all lights. The Tempo turns 1 year old in August. Everyone in the hotel says hello and wishes you a great day! Was this really NYC? I also had the opportunity of meeting Brian in person and Matt the Tempo's GM. Both were so welcoming and professional, we felt like we were with friends during our entire stay. The location at 47th St & Bdway is excellent for Broadway shows and restaurants. If you like Times Sq 2 steps from the hotel is Times Sq. Each day the hotel does automatic housekeeping and does a great job of it. The restaurant was very good and once again the staff was very friendly. The bar is open late so when you return from theatre you can stop for a drink or light snack. I've never stayed at an NYC hotel (we go every year for almost 30 years) where the staff actually seems like they enjoy working there and always offer to assist you. I also liked the security in the hotel. 24/7 they have folks dressed in black shirts and slacks walking the lobby, restaurant and guest floors to insure everyone is safe and no uninvited guests meander around. We will absolutely stay there next year and every year thereafter!

I am currently at this hotel and while it's rare for me to do review before leaving the location, I think it's only fair to warn off as many people as possible from making the same mistakes as I have.
We arrived to Tempo on Saturday 16th December around 3:30pm. We were told our rooms are not ready yet and to take a seat in the restaurant. We waited around 45 minutes whilst the rooms were cleaned, checked and made available..... which is not the end of the world. But after travelling all the way from London we were ready for a rest.
And this is where the problems began. The hotel WiFi was not working (and still not when I write this) The hotel staff didn't seem bothered by this and couldn't understand why I was making a fuss or refusing to pay for the internet charge. Considering it's a city centre hotel WiFi is important to business customers and families alike, but no one cared. Then theres the rooms itself. Ignoring the fact that I'm paying almost $18,000 for our stay, there's no water in the rooms, no facility to make tea and only paper cups. Our room was not cleaned for 3 days, until my wife called reception to ask why, and they struggle to answer the phone at reception at the best of times. The rooms are compact, theres almost no. storage space other than a clothes rail and coat hooks on the wall. It's not ideal when you're staying for 12 days with 5 or 6 cases in an expensive but small room. I get they are trying to be "eco friendly" and reduce plastic waste, but there's no reason why water cannot be provided in recycled plastic or even glass bottles.
And then there's the restaurant!! It would be an insult the give this any sort of star rating. The food is expensive, the choices are very limited and having to eat breakfast out of a cardboard box with a plastic fork is not an experience I enjoy or recommend. The one saving grace is Chef Kitt who has gone out of his way to help us with my sons food as he has some severe allergies. Other than that, I recommend you go out somewhere else for all meals.
Oh... band don't get me started on the in hotel shop. Once you see that 1ltr bottle of water costs $12 you won't be going back there for anything else.
So I advice you look for somewhere better and cheaper to stay. If I could afford to move to another hotel at this late stage I would have gone already.

Check in was 3 pm. We arrived at the hotel at 3:10pm. We went to check in at the front desk where they checked me in, paid for the room plus a few fees I didn’t know I would be paying all for them to tell me the room isn’t ready and they’ll let me know when it’s ready (should be 10-15 minutes). 3:45 rolls around and the lobby is packed full of people waiting around for their rooms to be ready. Some were waiting for over an hour for their rooms to be ready. The front desk personnel were rude to anyone who asked for an update on when the room would be ready. The reason that bothers me is if I’m an hour late to check out, I get charged another night but the hotel can withhold your room from you for over an hour and you still pay full price. My wife was feeling poorly as she is diabetic and her blood sugar needed to be checked so we asked Jose if he knew when our room would be ready. Jose was the most helpful person at the hotel. He called the manager over and explained our situation and the room was ready much quicker. The only reason I’ve given the hotel any stars at all is because of Jose. When we got into our room we discovered that we were paying $400 a night for a room the size of a shoe box that was not properly cleaned. (Cleaning was supposedly the reason we weren’t able to check in on time) there was hair in the shower, the room hasn’t been dusted, there was stuff on the sheets. Would I stay here again? Absolutely not. Moral of the story: Jose: 5 stars. Tempo by Hilton: -4 stars.

Loved this brand newish hotel right at Times Square. The room had many nice details like automatic opening window shades, beautiful bathroom tile, fixtures and a cool led lit mirror with a Bluetooth enabled speaker. The seven elevators were more than adequate and very fast. Practically no waiting time at all, even at busy times during the day and night. The front desk staff was very capable and helpful. We stayed on the 33rd floor and Times Square noise distractions were negligible. Had a great night sleep.

The hipsters at the front desk are completely useless. I came in late on a Thursday night, my airline had lost my bag and I didn't have anything with me. I asked the front desk where I could buy a toothbrush and toothpaste and they told me that they would send it to my room. I was really happy about it as I was exhausted after the travel. But they never sent it. I called the front desk much later and politely asked if I could pick it up. No need Sir! We will send it up right away! Nope, it never arrived.
The morning after I was looking forward to having coffee in my room, and I had a great Nespresso. Nope, it was broken. Back to front and ask them to change it. No problem Sir! We will do it right away. I stayed at the hotel for 6 nights and asked them to change it every day. On the 5th day, it was finally changed.
Then for the most serious part. On my second day, I came back to my room at about 1 p.m., and as I walked to my room two security guards from the hotel were walking out of life my room, holding everything I had locked in the safe! My computer, my passport, my wallet, everything!!! The excuse was that there was luggage in the room I must have checked out! I didn't receive any email or phone call from the hotel to confirm it, they just took it!
Other than that the room was nice and it was cleaned really well every day. The staff, other than the useless hipsters at the front desk and the two security guards were all good and made me feel welcome.

The strong point is certainly the location in the central Times Square, rooms quite small but clean and well soundproofed.
Friendly and helpful staff, nothing to say about the service.
Moving on to the structure, from the outside it is difficult to notice, the common areas are quite small, such as the rooms that can accommodate two people, I would not recommend it for more guests, we had a king size Deluxe with city view.
Furnishings not of Hilton quality.
The daily refill of Nespresso capsules and the presence of fountains to fill the water bottle are excellent.

Everything here was top notch. Right in times square but has been built to muffle the sound so I didn't have any trouble sleeping. The room has excellent controls for lights and curtains, the shower had excellent water pressure and everything was spotless. The room was very well laid out and not missing anything. The staff were all kind and pleasant especially housekeeping, bellmen, and doormen. I hate times square but have to be there for work so will definitely be staying here again.

Our stay at the Tempo by Hilton was absolutely wonderful. We were looking for a Hilton brand hotel which offered two queen beds within walking distance of the Broadway theaters, and we were thrilled to find this brand new hotel. Beautiful and quality furnishings, with an international and luxury feel, and a friendly greeting from every single hotel staff member we encountered. We were a little worried about the street noise since the hotel is located right in the heart of Times Square, but we really didn't hear very much from outside. The elevators were FAST, and the fitness center is outfitted with very nice equipment (including Peloton bikes). The queen beds did not appear to be the full 60 inches standard width to us, but we slept just fine. The only complaint we have is the costly parking rate: valet parking only, $85 daily rate for a sedan, $95 daily rate for an SUV.

When I stayed, I was on the 28th floor and had a nice view of the square below, but with the angle of the windows and surrounding buildings could not see out past that street. So if you're looking for a skyline view, this is not it, but if you want a nice view of the square only you'll probably be ok.
Yes, there was a room next to the check in area.
if 2 beds required, explain the person staying with you is not your partner.....whether its true or not.
