Our first time in New York with 2 teenage children. A great choice as fantastic view and lovely quiet location. Got the subway up town which was very easy and the stations are very near the hotel. Taxis are very reasonable for Chelsea Market, Soho and Greenwich. For 4 of us a taxi was as expensive as the subway for...

Good location if you want to be out of the hectic city centre. On the waterfront of lower Manhattan with good subway links, easy access to the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges. Had stumbled on a great deal on Skoosh and wondered if there would be a catch, but we got a Deluxe room on 12th floor with all the amenities...

We stayed for four nights in a Liberty view room and I would recommend as the view is great. Our room was large with a spacious bathroom with well stocked toiletries. Housekeeping were very efficient and friendly and cleaned the rooms twice daily. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. It is located just by Bowling Green subway so...

We stayed in this hotel for a week at the end of March 2014. The room was ready when we arrived after a transatlantic flight and we settled in straight away. It was a Statue view room and is worth the upgrade because the view is excellent. The maid always kept the room in top order and the bathroom was...

The Ritz downtown has most probably one of the best rooms in town. Big room, wall to wall windows, stunning views, great bathroom, all very unusual in NY. To top it, I was given a room with a view on miss liberty with binoculars provided to admire the statute. My flight was very late and I offered to pay half...

My husband and I spent the weekend at the Battery Park location for a fun weekend away. We enjoyed our stay as the staff was very friendly and helpful. The doorman put us in the house vehicle to take us to dinner instead of a cab though our destination was more than 20 blocks away which was wonderful! The location...

This is a very good hotel for a tourist visit - staff very helpful, rooms a good size for city centre hotel, location very quiet for large city and metro station just 200m away so fairly easy to get around. However, there are some drawbacks to be aware of: - rooms are not well insulated for sound. We were aware...

Lausanne, Switzerland

Hi all,

I'm a bit up in the air here as to the Battery Park Ritz and figured I might ask a few questions & share a few thoughts.

2 adults, 2 children (3&7) booked into a 1 bedroom liberty view club level suite

I'm a bit worried as to transport times & distance. Out of 5 days in NY I can't imagine we'll be in the Battery park area more than 1 or 2. Cost isn't really an issue compared to a 30 minute trip with a tired & cranky 3 yo. Any young families out there that have tried it out?

How good are the Statue of Liberty views? In some photos they look pretty decent while in others lady liberty looks like an ant out on the horizon. Honestly, the view is the main reason I'd take the Battery Park property over Central Park. We just got back from the Ritz Tokyo & had a wonderful city view from a 53rd floor corner suite. Even if I could find a hotel in NY that commanded such views, I would like to have my daughters remember NY a bit differently (one view overlooking a city is pretty much the same as another to young children right?).

Are there really no coffee machines in the rooms? I can't remember the last time I stayed at a hotel without an in-room Nespresso or Lavassa machine & this includes smaller 4* boutique hotels. A bit minimalistic for a high end luxury 5* isn't it?

Any truth to a lack of bathroom amenities? I expect 4*s (and lower 5*s) to stock tooth brushes/razors/sewing kits, etc. on property but properties such as the Ritz should have such things in-room & replenish them when used.

How is this property with kids? What in-room amenities were given for the kids (crayons/colouring books/children's soaps/children's toothbrushes/stuffed ritz lion/etc.)?

Better yet... What were the adult 'welcome amenities" (i.e. welcome card & chocolates)?

Thanks in advance.
