After a frenetic steamy day in New York City, it was a relief to return to the Inn, a beautifully renovated and appointed building that really felt like a home. The Flaherty Suite was absolutely lovely. Our welcoming hosts, Terra and Kipp, were warm and very helpful with any requests, as well as with helping us negotiate the City. Breakfast...

My son was getting married the day we arrived at this B & B and my husband and I had traveled from Pennsylvania on an extremely hot day and we were looking forward to refreshing ourselves before the event by taking a shower. Imagine our dismay when we realized that there was no soap in our room and no one...

I am so sorry that you were disappointed with your stay at the Canal Park Inn. We do try to make clear that our cafe is closed Sundays to prospective guests and I’m glad it was clear to you prior to booking, as you indicated in one of the several emails you sent following your one day stay with us....

My husband, Paul, teenage daughter Kate and I stayed here for a week at the beginning of July. I rarely go on Trip Advisor but wanted to so that I could recommend others to enjoy staying at The Canal Park Inn. Kipp, the owner is a lovely warm, genuine and welcoming man who is both helpful and interesting. He also...

My preference is always somewhere small and original as opposed to large brands but with that comes risk. We had nothing to worry about .. we had a fantastic stay. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Getting breakfast in was a real bonus and tasty !! We were in the Sinnot suite and whilst I can't speak for the...

After flying for 16 hours and an hour train trip we found our suite clean and ready – 9 o’clock in the morning! A weary traveller cannot appreciate this enough. The Sinnot Suite was large enough for three adults. We stayed for 2 nights, and slept like babies. The rooms are sound proof, so no street noise (or even the...

My fiance and I stayed at the Canal Park Inn for two nights and three days. I'll start by saying it was an extremely convenient place to stay. There was restaurants and spas and walks by the water and the subway was nearby. The room was beautiful ! It was such a comfy feel. We loved staying in a historic...

This is an unusual find in NYC. A 200 year old property, which takes you back in time. The rooms are not huge, but perfectly comfortable. The breakfast was a lovely experience, made from scratch by the owner. The best thing about this place is the reception you receive. Very helpful, booked us a taxi to La Guardia, lots of...

The Canal Park Inn is a rare gem in a part of town that is known to be home to some very expensive boutique hotels. We stayed in the Kennedy room and found it very clean and very comfortable; the AC kept us cool during a heat wave! The Kennedy room bathroom was clean and bright; I felt safe and...

Sofa couch made into bed. Absolutely unacceptable as a bed. Very nasty and uncomfortable. Bathroom needs maintenance to even be considered safe. Shower curtain barely attached. Dangerous. Kitchen refridgerator freezer was filthy. Unacceptable. Also, very unstable and unbalanced when opening and using. Closet cabinet was unstable and almost dangerous to use. Outside deck was trashy and needed work and refinement.

The tone of this review saddens me. I think we can and should all do better when speaking to and about each other. None-the-less, I’m sorry you were so unhappy with your stay here. I want to address your perception that our bathrooms are old, need upgrading and are, therefore, dangerous. They have been upgraded. Consistent with our 1826, landmarked...

My daughter (age 17), son (age 14) and I went to NYC for two nights to visit our favorite restaurant (Union Bar & Kitchen, right around the corner from Canal Park Inn), stroll around Soho and see some sights (Tenement Museum, which was great), and take in a show (School of Rock --awesome). Kipp was a fantastic host -- from...

Staying in TriBeCa

Neighbourhood Profile
What’s in a name? In this case it is the unique title of “Triangle Below Canal Street” that became a popular nickname in the 1970s. An attractive neighbourhood filled with handsome lofts on the edge of the Financial District, this lovely slice of Manhattan offers plenty of fine dining experiences and art galleries. Plus, it’s home to the city’s most exciting film event, the Tribeca Film Festival, that takes place here every year. TriBeCa is a great place to take a leisurely stroll before stopping into one of the many local restaurants or bars for a satisfying meal and cocktail. You’ll see families out for an afternoon walk, and don’t be surprised to come up with the occasional celebrity sighting. With such a great vibe, many of the city’s most famous residents call this neighbourhood home.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestled on the border of Soho and Tribeca, our landmarked 1826 Canal House is ideally situated for experiencing the best New York has to offer—and still having a quiet place to call home at the end of the day. Surrounded by 5-star restaurants and a block away from the landscaped parks, open grass, tennis courts, and stunning sunsets at the Hudson River Park, we strike a perfect balance between nature and culture. The Osborne’s have owned 508 Canal Street since 1980. In this building, they raised their daughter, providing the building with family history built into the very walls. (Behind a renovation wall on the top floor of the building is hidden a mural painted by children at a particularly creative third birthday party.) The beds and several end tables in the Inn were built by Kipp Osborne, coming from the days when he and his wife, Margot, were furniture makers in Soho and Tribeca. ... more   less
