Where to stay in New York? So much to choose from and much of it really overpriced. Booking about 6 months out, we spent 9 nights at Sanctuary NYC at a pretty good price. Located in the East Village, the Sanctuary is about 10 mins walk from the Essex St subway station. From there it is about 15 minutes to...

We stayed in these apartments for 5 nights. The positives, were the location, especially if you are looking for a little bit of old school Manhattan. you are a few minutes walk away from the subway, which will put you on the F train which takes you straight into Midtown, and from little Italy and China town. There were 2...

We stayed at Stanton Street. The apartment was fine, clean and tidy. It was close to the subway and the neighbourhood was alright with all the conveniences and amenities you could want. Our problem was that there are renovations or construction going on above or near our apartment. Approx 7.45am every morning the noise started, drilling, hammering etc etc and...

A friend and I had the Rama suite (2J) on the second floor (with elevator) of the 196A Stanton Street apartment block for 2 and a half weeks in September 2015 at $269 per night (plus a once off tax of $125). We booked about eight months in advance which may account for the great price. What a great find!...

The hotel was the perfect spot to base our daily expeditions to all ends on Manhattan. The subway stations are close, Broadway, Rockefeller, Grand Central Terminal, Central Park..are all within close walking distance. The room was small but a lot of character. Peaceful every day except for the Saturday nite. It could have been the rooftop bar or Time Square..but...

Stayed in Govind room, a nice spacious place! Good location, very pleasant staff, and a fair price for NYC. Breakfast is good. Very good atmosphere all around. Will probably return in my next time in NY.

Very central to everything in New York and a few mins walk to the subway. However, a lot of 5 star reviews are given and I don't think it merits that. Given that accommodation in New York is very expensive, for the price it is fair. however, there are a few basic things that are needed before this can be...

My family and I stayed here for 5 nights. The overall experience was fantastic. The staff is pleasant ,friendly, & helpful. Yoga classes are included with your stay. With that said we did encounter a couple of issues on our arrival, however the staff rose to the occasion and quickly set things right. Thank you Zach & Julie.

We have stayed in New York many times, in almost every area of the city and as usual, it is always a bit nerve wracking when you choose somewhere different. In this case, from the booking, communication, help and kindness of all of the staff, our stay with various family and friends in three separate rooms over a 10 day...

Staying in Lower East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighbourhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Sanctuary NYC Retreats was established by a group of health, eco, and spiritually conscientious travelers. They came together with two ideas in mind: To provide other travelers with a peaceful, retreat-like stay in NYC and to create an opportunity to give back to our community. Each suite at Sanctuary features a fully equipped kitchen and a flat-screen cable TV. The suites are decorated in warm colors and Indian folk art. Select rooms have a sofa bed and private patio. Complimentary continental breakfast is offered Monday-Friday only. The Lower East Side is the oldest neighborhood in New York City and presently one of the most fashionable in Manhattan. Once the home for working-class European immigrants, the LES has become one of the trendiest areas in the city full of cool boutique hotels, bars, restaurants, yoga studios, fashion stores, health food stores, art galleries and live music venues. Iconic artists like Marlon Brando, Robert DeNiro, Lou Reed and Leonard Cohen used to live on our street and countless movies and TV shows are filmed around throughout the year. Just blocks away is the Delancey/Essex Subway Station and a quick train ride to Midtown (Union Square, Flatiron District, Empire State Building, Times Square and Central Park) or Brooklyn (Williamsburg, DUMBO). A few minutes walking and you can be anywhere Downtown: East Village, SoHo, West Village, Little Italy, Chinatown and East River Park. ... more   less
