The latest Freehand has recently opened in NYC’s Flatiron neighborhood. It will take over the former George Washington Hotel, which has a history as a home for creatives. That legacy will live on in The Freehand Fellowship: the hotel is launching a program in partnership with Live Arts Bard of Bard College, where selected artists will get the chance to live and work at the property and play an active part in its arts and cultural program. As with all Freehands, food and beverage is of the utmost importance. The restaurant and lobby bar here will be headed by West Village restaurateur Gabriel Stulman’s Happy Cooking Hospitality. Freehand New York will also get an outpost of Noho café, The Smile, and of course, a Broken Shaker bar.

My wife and I had an amazing long weekend in NYC with The Freehand as our base. The hotel is close to so much and centrally located. Quick cab/uber anywhere and it is also walkable (which is what we did mostly). I love the boutique feel of the hotel vs a big box hotel. The bar on the top level is not to be missed (The Broken Shaker). Room was comfortable and cozy and the hotel is very clean and the staff are amazing. We can't wait to come back.

Had to move rooms three times -- one was for a crying baby (not a problem at all), one was for no heater, and the final room the phone didn't even work. Their solution to no heater was to give me a tiny portable heater that did nothing.

The Freehand is a very hip and trendy hotel. The staff is kind, friendly, and accommodating. There are a number of food and beverage options including a great spot by the lobby for coffee and breakfast. The best part of my experience was working with Delamarques Nel, the Director of Front Office. He is experienced, professional, and always makes sure the clients needs come first. This is the most important attribute of a hotel staff member. I had booked the hotel for 20+ employees while we were in the city for a multi night stay and Delamarques always made himself available to us for anything we needed. I would highly recommend this hotel and am looking forward to working with Delamarques and his team in the near future.

Wherever I travel I like to stay in places that retain the personality of the locale. Freehand did not disappoint in that respect. The building had so much history, while providing the best service and modern conveniences. Staff was hospitable and friendly. Courteous and helpful. Brandon the security officer on site was very attentive and treated me like an old friend. He's a keeper. I also love that Freehand is doing this with other historic buildings in other cities across America. I'm sold. :)
