I visited The Old Plough pub in Shortlanesend near Truro Cornwall with a friend for a meal and a few drinks. The service was Brilliant fast and very friendly, I would recommend this pub and I will be returning soon.
I had an amazing weekend with my best friend at the Public Hotel. I loved the efficiency of the Public App and self check-in. The hotel staff was exceptionally nice and helpful. Angel and Wolfgang were the best!! We had one small hiccup and they helped us us every step of the way. We enjoyed dining at Popular and had great pastries and coffee at Louis. We can’t wait to come back!
Don't be fooled by the positive reviews on TripAdvisor... Many reviews are from non-hotel guests, who take over the public lounge areas every day. For them, at a price tag of free, this is quite a nice place to kick back and do some work or escape the heat. For hotel guests, at a price tag of $300+, the experience left much to be desired. Upon arrival outside the hotel, you're greeted by no one, no one to help with bags or direct you to where to go. Upon arriving at check-in, you will likely be greeted by a bunch of other guests who are either in the middle of struggling with the iPad check-in system, or frustratingly giving up and standing in line waiting for the one visible clerk. In our case, public's system took 10+ minutes to update with our on the spot reservations, during which time a CS agent escorted us to an unsightly side office, where she confirmed that no, our reservation was not in the system and that we should simply just keep waiting in the lobby as if we had made some mistake. We asked her to follow up with us once our reservation updated, which she failed to do. Eventually, we checked the iPads ourselves and the system updated with our reservation. Despite completing check-in, we were prompted to wait further as no room was available yet. Simply put, a miserable check in experience, and we were never offered any refreshments during our tedious wait in the overcrowded public lobby area. The room itself was incredibly underwhelming. Standard NYC tiny size I guess, but with no power outlets on the far side of the bed... What decade is it? The sink is in the room despite plenty of room to have put it in the bathroom - some people might like this layout, but you're much more likely to disturb your roommate at night using the sink. The wifi was so slow that airplay/screen mirroring wouldn't display any video... What's the point of advertising this "amenity"? The final nail in the coffin for this woeful excuse for a high end hotel was the fact that not only do they not provide basic toiletries like toothbrushes in the room, they have the gall to charge for it through an e-vending system that crashed on my floor and was out of stock on two other floors I checked. The public spaces might be worth a visit, but the hotel itself is not worth the nightly price.…
My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit at the Public. After a morning of errands in one of the hottest weekends of the summer, it was refreshing to stop by and be greeted by the nice fragrance and the polite staff at the coffee bar who fixed us our delicious iced coffees. We also had a chance to peruse the shop downstairs to pick up some small decor for our apartment and took a break to sit and relax at the lounge upstairs. It's always nice knowing that there is a gem in the middle of the city!
The Public is such a lovely hotel with a wonderful environment. My partner and I grabbed coffee (delicious) at the coffee shop downstairs, browsed the hotel shop, and spent our day working virtually from the lobby space. Everyone there was so kind and friendly. And working in the lobby was great because we were able to transition seamlessly from coffee to wine at the end of the work day!
The hotel is a nice property, very modern and clearly for the trendy Instagrammers. The rooms are also pretty basic and as an avid traveler, the lack of customer service stood out to me the most from the moment I booked. No one greets you at the hotel, no bellman service, and no one ever picks up when you call the lobby. Public may not be the Four Seasons, but having staff for your guests should be a priority. I definitely would not return to this hotel. The only reason I had to stay here is that I hosted an event on their 17th floor, to which I should add the planning process with their internal events team also lacked in many ways. I wanted to like this property but was disappointed.
Demario made my stay fantastic- went above and beyond to ensure my room was ready in time for some work confrence calls. I’m coming back again today because I know all my needs will be met by the excellent staff
4 night stay - once battled our way past the Instagramming visitors to get to the lobby we had to wait in line for a human to assist as the iPads were not working correctly- we were told we had been upgraded to a high view queen room - which was what I had actually booked !!! Room was wonderful although if you are any shorter than 5’9 you will struggle to use the wardrobe!! Being able to order drinks and snacks and then pop down to collect was great too. My gripe - as a guest of the hotel I think access to the roof should be on your room card and that there should be a reserved seating area for guests of the hotel. Bar staff sadly seemed to treat us as an annoyance rather than a guest/customer but they were the exception. They also need to have more staff in the lobby as the iPad idea works well but no one was using it putting pressure on the front of house solo worker. The outdoor garden and restaurants were calm cool and really lovely.…
Wow I came here qbe the bartenders were amazing . They middle bartender with the Mohawk was great and very patient making our drinks the best even though it was hectic . The manager Ariel was very courteous and showed us the perimeter . I recommended coming to the best rooftop in the New York City . Thank you so much
Shana and Demario made our stay first class. Shana was very professional with assisting us with the checkin. It was fast and précis. She gave great recommendations and was very knowledgeable of the city and hotel. Demario professionalism and energy was a breath of fresh air. He was attentive throughout our stay. Public hotel is lucky to have them both. Public hotel drinks were good, hotel is Very clean. Definitely will return due to the both of them.
