The PUBLIC Hotel garners mixed feelings, with guests lauding its prime location and immaculate cleanliness, alongside a vibrant atmosphere enhanced by modern design and musical ambiance. While the attentive service is a high point, there are concerns over perceived value due to overpriced offerings and scant in-room amenities. The hotel's amenities, including the rooftop bar and various dining options, are well-received, though some guests encounter noisy rooms and sporadic service slow-downs.

Stay here for my second time 1st weekend in December,I stayed here for my second time 1st weekend of December ‘24 with my teenage son (from LA). We loved how close the hotel is to all the hip places, soho, LES, convenient subway entrances close by. The first time I stayed here was with my work team mates for a weeklong meeting, Zach really took care of us as a big group last year and this past December with my kid. Everything is much better with great hospitality.

The rooms where very comfortable and much like the rest of the hotel, they have air of modern chic design, it feels like a place to chill and turn up later.
There are modern details in the rooms: when walking in the drapery automatically raises, the touches of natural wood raw cement and clean lines, the lighting is cool and the room controls aren’t the standard western switches, very Japanese in vibe with the controls.

The hotel grounds are dynamic and match the modern chic look, the escalator with gold mirrors is the highlight, but the big rotating doors and the lighting in the entrance are the start of the details, the rooftop club also follow suit aesthetically and have great views, the Artspace club in the basement is a whole different vibe emotive of dancing and guaranteed good times with the disco balls floor to ceiling.

A great place, 10-10!

Dear Magneto465, Thank you for returning to stay with us and for sharing such a thoughtful and detailed review of your experiences! We’re thrilled to hear that your second visit was as memorable as your first and that you enjoyed exploring the neighborhood with your son. Being located near SoHo, the Lower East Side, and convenient subway entrances truly makes us a perfect home base for city adventures. It’s wonderful to know that Zach left such a positive impression on both your group visit and your stay with your son. I love this hotel. It's setting is remarkable for NYC--set back from the street with a park-like area in its front yard. The interior spaces are large and welcoming. You can sit on a couch in the lobby area and not be required to order something. There are work spaces with power outlets for people's laptops. I loved that there is a guests' only lounge with free coffee and fruit. What initially drew me to this hotel was the roof top bar--and it met and exceeded all my expectations. The views were amazing--no tall buildings were blocking the 360 degree views. My room was cleverly laid out to maximize space. The bed was in the window with a TV at the foot of the bed. There was even a couch and a table across from the bed giving me space for zoom calls. It has a very young vibe, which was fun for me as an elderly woman. It was a lovely 4-day stay.

Whether it's your first time in New York or you're a regular traveller, Public Hotel is situated in one of the best locations.

Trendy neighbourhoods, great restaurants, public transport and tourist highlights are all in walking distance. Meaning if you want to grab breakfast at Russ & Daughters in the morning, cross the Williamsburg Bridge in the afternoon to grab a slice at Finis, head to Little Italy for dinner and grab a late night comedy show at New Yorks infamous Comedy Club, you can!

As for the hotel itself, it is definitely cool inside, with a Peruvian restaurant, multiple bars including one on the roof and lots of 'instragram' spots.

We chose to book a 'Loft' room as we were staying for 7 nights over New Year and wanted the extra space. The room was modern and warmly decorated with plenty of outlets for charging every device. We certainly felt comfortable and well catered for. Unfortunately we were on a lower floor, so we got interrupted each morning by a garbage truck.

As well, for Europeans the room did lack slippers, dressing gowns and tea/coffee facilities, which we felt for a loft room (a premium room) it should have included. As well, the reason for the 4* review was that you could only go to the roof after 5pm, through a hard to find lift. Which is a shame, I think guests should have free rein. I also went in the guests private lounge on a number of occasions and they had ran out of hot water for tea.

I would stay at the hotel again based on its location but for shorter stays, I probably wouldn't go for a loft room and stick to standard.

This is the second time I’ve had the pleasure to stay at the Public. The first time was in October 2021, and I’m happy to say that nothing has changed (except for an upgraded and easy self check in). The rooms are beautiful, spacious, and feature the best lightning and ambiance around. The blackout curtains and sheets (all controlled via remotes) are an excellent touch too. Waterfall shower heads and a larger bathroom than most places I’ve stayed. Each time I’ve stayed on a high floor with an incredible view of the city. And even with a nightclub on the roof, the rooms are well insulated and I always have a great nights (I’m an extremely light sleeper and that hasn’t been the case for me in other nearby hotels).

My partner and I stayed at the hotel for a week while visiting the city to see friends & family. Location was perfect for us to spend time in different areas of the city throughout our stay and we could quickly get around whether walking, biking or using the subway.

The room was gorgeous with floor to ceiling glass windows creating an open and inviting space while spending time in the room. Room also had full blackout shades when mornings when we wanted to sleep in. The hotel also had a rooftop bar with amazing panoramic views of Manhattan that turned into a dance party in later evenings. There was also a full club in the basement of the hotel which we had a great time at. The lobby bar was also a great place to hangout and work during the day when needed and grab drinks.

Big thanks to Zack and Arielle for showing us around and making sure we enjoyed all the amenities the hotel had to offer. Overall a great experience and would highly recommend for anyone visiting the city for work or pleasure. Will definitely be back.

Hip hotel that fails in hospitality. No doorman to help with bags on arrival, check yourself in at kiosk and make your own keys. No welcome from absent front desk. Drag your own bags to your room because there is no bell service. Hallway is a dark and grey carpeted. Rooms have one small sink in the room next to the door. Tiny closet with 4 hangers, frosted glass cubicle with toilet and rain shower in the room. A bed is on a strange platform next to the window with no nightstands. No coffee, water, or minibar, no room service. However there is an essentials closet down the hall with an ice machine and filtered water and extra towels. Reserved a table at the rooftop bar for 5pm and they sent us a text 30 minutes before changing it to 6:30! The basement techno club lets out at 4am with a hoard of gen z exiting the hotel beeping horns.

I’m sure there are many hotels that get a 5 star rating because of their amenities, position, price point etc and the Public deserves a 5 star rating for all these reasons but I doubt there are many hotels which get a 5 star rating purely based on their staff and the service provided- well the Public deserves 5 stars on this factor alone! Sure it’s a very cool space in a fabulous location ( great shopping, restaurants , museums and 2 subway stations all within a 5 minute walk) and the rooms are gorgeous with all the little things you’d expect and some that you wouldn’t (like a steamer and a cooler) but what sets it apart is the staff. From the requests for extra towels to the request for a room upgrade - everything was done promptly and with a smile. A security guard even walked me around to the local bodega on the night of my arrival when I asked where I could buy some milk! The service was impeccable on all levels. A special shout out to the night manager Dante who bent over backwards to make sure our stay was enjoyable. Loved everything about the Public. The only place to stay in NYC. Can’t wait to see you guys the next time we’re back.

We recently stayed at Public over the New Year and experienced an average to above average stay. Nothing remarkable to speak of either positively or negatively. A decent place to stay that needs some maintenance (it is rare after Covid to stay in a hotel that doesn’t need maintenance of some kind), but overall lovely. After a three night stay, and on our way home, I noticed that my hip was really itchy. When we got home I confirmed that I had indeed been bitten by bed bugs. I called the hotel to report the bed bug bites and the response I was given by a hotel manager was a defensive “we don’t have bed bugs in this hotel”. I explained to the manager that I was only calling as a service to them, and not expecting any compensation on their part. Bed bugs happen and I feel like it is my responsibility to report things like this so that it doesn’t happen to the next guest. That’s it. I was not going to write a negative review or make a fuss. This manager had a moment to handle this phone call well, and he did not. All he had to say is “thank you so much for reporting this to us, we will throughly inspect this room, and we appreciate your business”. Unfortunately he did not. This hotel went from a decent place to stay to me advising any who will listen to never give Public your business. There are MANY great places to stay in NYC. Go someplace else.

Im not sure where all these people stayed who rave about this hotel. We had the worst experience at this place.
For a start, all the seating on the roof terrace is reserved, so there is nowhere for any hotel guest to sit and enjoy a cocktail, which is a real shame. The hotel are all about making a buck from walk-ins.
The bedrooms are very compact, modern and clean. The bed is a futon and accessed by one side only as the other side touches the window. the lighting system is electronic, which is nice as we have that at home too, but could be problematic if unfamiliar with this system. The bathroom basin is in the bedroom and the shower only has a fixed head, no hand shower attachment.
All the hotel room doors close with a loud slam. We were awoken at 3am by several doors slamming in our corridor and drunk guests going form one room to another.
The most disappointing and upsetting part of our stay was the way in which we were treated by the (very sparse) hotel staff - They were rude and obnoxious beyond belief.
Do yourself a favour and book an alternative to this place - its terrible.

The property is great. Awesome location and a fun vibe with the restaurants and roof top bar. The staff were great to deal with. My issue is this: we booked a loft room for $750 A NIGHT. When paying this exorbitant amount of money, I expect not to have to follow up for anything. Our room did not have robes, slippers, shower caps, enough hangers, iron or ironing board. I had to follow up several times for these items. This is absolutely infuriating when you are paying that kind of money. If im paying economy rates for an economy room, then id expect that level of service. But i was paying a high end rate. Stop being stingy on items that cost the hotel virtually nothing but give the guest a much better experience.

Hotel suits all with an open mind. Rooms not greatly comfortable and bar are small - but roof terrace excellent. Area is a bit rundown and rough but as safe as anywhere in NY.
