Completed in 1908, the American Seaman’s Friend Society Sailors’ Home and Institute was designed by William A. Boring, the architect renowned for Ellis Island’s immigrant station. Originally built as a hotel for sailors with cabin-like rooms, the land-marked hotel was lovingly restored on its centennial in 2008 as the Jane Hotel. The Jane Hotel has continued to house guests with more dash than cash ever since.

Neighbourhood
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.

Don't be duped by the good location and nice decor. This may be the last hotel in the Village (or NYC) to give guests keys to a room without warning them of the all-night heavy bass music playing from the club downstairs. Pity, for the person paying the bill would surely want to

Cool historic elements in the lobby, ballroom bar and restaurant. Friendly, helpful but overworked-looking staff. Loud pounding music from the “ballroom” bar/club on the 1rst floor can be easily heard several floors away until the wee hours. Someone was smoking in one of the

It's a pleasure to hear how much you appreciate our history, style, and the staff here at the Jane Hotel. I'm sorry to hear of your disappointments during the stay. While we are a non-smoking hotel, we do have a couple of tenants we cannot ask to refrain in their own homes and we are always happy to move guests away from them. Thank you for letting us know about the shower curtain; we are getting that replaced right away. For more space, a private bathroom, and a Full, Queen or King sized bed please try our Captain's Cabin. Whenever you have any discomfort please don't hesitate to reach out to the Front Desk for immediate assistance. The Desk can be reached at any time by dialing 0 from the room. We look forward to your next visit. Wishing Safe Travels, Jamie

I like The Jane and often stay there when on business. It is conveniently located near Penn Station and an easy distance for walk, bike, or cab/subway. Nearby try many local restaurants and small atmospheric shops. I don't especially like the cafe in The Jane.

I had a single room with a shared bathroom for 4 nights between Christmas and New Year. The room was tiny but had under bed storage for my suitcase and the bed was comfortable. The room was invariably hot and the fan was noisy so I ended up sleeping with the window slightly

Hi Katie, We're delighted to hear you really enjoyed your stay with us over the holidays and that you appreciate the concept and style here at the Jane Hotel. Whenever you have any discomfort please don't hesitate to give the Front Desk a call. The Desk can be reached at any time by dialing 0 from the room. We look forward to your next stay. Hi Joan, There are a couple of options to get to the hotel from Newark airport. First, the easiest way is to take a taxi directly from Newark to the hotel. The fare for this trip is about $60 plus tip and tolls. You should verify this amount with the driver prior to accepting the ride. Second, you can take the Super Shuttle. This is a shared van ride company that will bring you from the airport to the hotel. The fee for this service is about $22/person. You can get this transportation in the ground transportation area of the airport. For more info on the Super Shuttle please visit their website. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any further questions. Regards, Jamie
