Completed in 1908, the American Seaman’s Friend Society Sailors’ Home and Institute was designed by William A. Boring, the architect renowned for Ellis Island’s immigrant station. Originally built as a hotel for sailors with cabin-like rooms, the land-marked hotel was lovingly restored on its centennial in 2008 as the Jane Hotel. The Jane Hotel has continued to house guests with more dash than cash ever since.

West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.

I've spend a week here in february and enjoyed it very much. Great service at the bar from Gabriel. The only thin I disliked (and it wa my ow fault) was the fact that as a European I didn't know I was supposed to tip the maid as well and the reception at the front desk was

Enjoy history with a totally clean NY guest room, which includes robe, slippers, and fresh water each night. A top choice! There is an onsite restaurant. I chose to stay in most economical so did the shared bath - dormitory style. Other options are available. Very nice staff

I was not able to sleep a tall during my stay at the Jane hotel. There is a huge heater in the tiny room, which turns the room into a sauna. Even opening the tiny window and putting the (incredibly noisy( AC on full power could not counteract the heat. Cons: Shared, mixed

Hi Laura, We're glad to hear you really enjoy our style and the team here a the Jane. However, it's such a disappointment to hear of your discomforts. Due to the age and structure of our Landmark, Historic building we are on a one pipe steam system which affects every room differently. As guests stay with us we get better at matching them to rooms. These conversations are important to us, and if you could reach out to me directly it would really help us find you the right room your next stay. We look forward to seeing you again, and I look forward to assisting you personally. Cheers, Jamie

Came here to go to the bar and have a good time, but that was ruined by incredibly disrespectful door staff. They told us to wait in line and then when we got to the front they say "no." If you try to ask them why they won't let you in, they refuse to answer. "It's just a no,

HI Hannah, We're sorry to hear of your disappointment at the entrance of the Jane Ballroom. Entry may be determined by a number of factors to include but not limited to: Minimum age requirements, capacity limits set by FDNY, and other legally enforced safety regulations that are on the forefront of the doorman's mind. It is unfortunate that other more pressing and immediate concerns may momentarily take priority over a potential patron's question, but it can get very busy on the weekend. I apologize that the Ballroom wasn't able to fully address your concerns in the moment. For guaranteed entry please email the Jane Ballroom for more information on making a reservation. We do hope you get to fully take advantage of the Jane Ballroom in the near future. Kind Regards, Jamie

This was my second stay at the Jane and I was happy to return to this atmospheric hotel. The cabins are small, but clean and comfortable. The only thing is that they can get very hot - even with the window open and the fan on. You have to share a bathroom (unless you’re in a

Hi Fionamcguigan, If you go to the Stewart Airport website (TripAdvisor doesn't allow links) you will find the Stewart Express, a Coach USA bus line to the New York City Port Authority Bus Station for about $20 a person. An Uber or a Lift service will run you about $200 for the trip. We look forward to seeing you. Wishing Safe Travels, Jamie

Does the offer airport shuttle to newark & how much per person?
Hi Joan, There are a couple of options to get to the hotel from Newark airport. First, the easiest way is to take a taxi directly from Newark to the hotel. The fare for this trip is about $60 plus tip and tolls. You should verify this amount with the driver prior to accepting the ride. Second, you can take the Super Shuttle. This is a shared van ride company that will bring you from the airport to the hotel. The fee for this service is about $22/person. You can get this transportation in the ground transportation area of the airport. For more info on the Super Shuttle please visit their website. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any further questions. Regards, Jamie
