If you are looking for something for more personal than the vast downtown tourist hotels, by all means please consider Hillcrest House B and B. The house itself is a wonderfully restored California Craftsman. My room, the Balboa, was cozy and had the MOST comfortable bed and lovely bathroom; the larger window opened to the smell of something floral and... More

My fiance' and I traveled to San Diego for a weekend getaway and decided that we would try a bed and breakfast (B&B) as opposed to the usual hotel/motel. We quickly convinced my fiance's brother and sis-in-law and we booked two rooms with Ann at Hillcrest B&B. My fiance and I stood in the ZOO Room which was a nicely... More

I already want to go back to Hillcrest House. We had a lovely room that was everything I would like in my own bedroom and bathroom at home and can't afford. There are only a few rooms so it's very quiet. There are inside and outside places to sit outside the rooms - we had breakfast inside one morning at... More

My fiance & I stayed @ the Hillcrest House B&B recently to celebrate Valentine's Day (2010). Everything about our experience was great. Ann and her staff are extremely friendly and the grounds/facilities are immaculate. We stayed in the Balboa Room and it was beautiful (recently remodeled). We met other guests during breakfast and everyone was simply friendly. The House is... More

We recently stayed at Hillcrest House for a long holiday weekend. We give it two thumbs up! We arrived as a "late check-in" from the East Coast. Ann had left our key and detailed map of the property and surrounding area where she had said it would be. We found the room to be large and clean. After traveling most... More

We spent a glorious weekend at Hillcrest House Bed and Breakfast! Ann is a marvelous hostess and the house is incredibly charming. It happens to have belonged to my grandmother at one point, and my mother grew up there. It is close to many attractions and the room was comfortable, clean and the sheets were to die for! We will... I frequent San Diego for business, and have made the Hillcrest House my home away from home. The house is adorable, spotless, safe and always smells like a fresh batch of cookies are in the oven. The beds are heavenly, even for a self-proclaimed bed snob. The location is central, it is a good base for almost anywhere in San... More

For two years between 2006 and 2008, I was about 90% on the road. Never once did I feel as at home as I did here at Hillcrest House. Ann is so personable, I felt like I was visiting family. If I need to visit San Diego for any reason, this is it where I'm staying.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here for 3 nights at the beginning of Jan, 2010. Location is great in the residential area of Hillcrest. Near most of the major attractions -- downtown, Balboa Park, Mission Bay, Old Town, etc. Ann is a fantastic host. Even though hot breakfasts aren't provided, I never left the table hungry. Plus, I love fresh... More
