Dear Nicholas S, We value your opinion and can certainly understand your frustration about the reservation mishap. We understand you are not reviewing how your stay was at the Quality Inn Harpers Ferry since you didn’t stay here. However, we feel compelled to respond to your assertion that our hotel is engaging in "unfair, deceptive business practices.” Rather, we are merely implementing our cancellation policy. When you called the Quality Inn Shepherdstown representative, they took care of your room there, but nothing was done concerning your Quality Inn Harpers Ferry reservation. As I discussed with you earlier, all hotels are individually owned and operated and there is no sharing of guest reservation information. On behalf of Choice, I am sorry that Quality Inn Shepherdstown failed to disclose their inability to transfer your reservation from our hotel to their hotel. They just created a new reservation for you. In your presence, they could have made a courtesy call to Harpers Ferry to inform us that you would not be arriving. We could have cancelled your reservation had we known. We were 100 percent booked that night and we had to turn away a lot of people. There are several ways to cancel a reservation (call hotel directly, online, or 1-800-Choice). We simply did not know so we held the reservation for you until the following morning 7 am and fulfilled our reservation contract commitment. To reiterate, please accept our sincerest apologies for the unfortunate reservation experience, but we hope that this will not dissuade you from staying at any of the fine 6000-7000 Choice Hotels. All hotels of all affiliations (not just CHOICE) have cancellation policies. It’s important to understand those policies, in case you need to cancel a reservation, like the one you successfully cancelled at our hotel just two weeks prior. We do hope you will give Quality Inn and Choice Hotels another chance to impress you. I am confident that we can. We thank you for your honest feedback.

There are 2 ways to walk 1 mile to the hotel: 1)Through town which is all sidewalk until Union St (last 0.3 mile), and 2) Along Shenandoah St, a safe footpath behind a metal barrier until Rt 340, (last 100 yards has a 10 foot wide shoulder). 1) is safer but it will be uphill for the first 2/3rd of mile. We do not have a shuttle, but you can call the hotel to check if a staff member is available to pick you up at Amtrak. Thank you for your inquiry.

How far from the beach?
Not sure what beach. Very close to the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers. If you are referring to the Maryland / Delaware Atlantic beaches you are about three / four hours via car.

Is there any transportation available to get us to/from the train station with luggage?
Yes, it is possible if arranged ahead of time. Call us to let us know when you are arriving and we can certainly make arrangements to pick you up.

The hotel is 1 mile from the Amtrak station, so the walk will take 15-20 minutes. There is no shuttle service, but call ahead and there's a good chance one of the staff may be available to pick up from the train station.
