Hotel's Favourite
We planned a brief Northern Wisconsin vacation after we travelled from New York to tend to my parents’ Upper Peninsula gravesite. From the get-go, Wayne (property manager, I think) was quick to respond to text and phone inquiries, honest about property and fees, and professional. Likewise, we had similar experiences with Claudia (property owner, I think) who was gracious and helpful. Both were proud of the Lake Superior Lodge – which, I think, they are bringing back to former glory. Our motel room was beautifully updated, and the Lake Superior view was splendid. Although we were not on vacation to watch television, the Roku setup is not ideal, in my opinion. (Mosquitos love Northern Wisconsin summers; arrive with a bug spray arsenal.)

Stayed in condo #23. We loved the deck and view of the lake. You can get down to the lake if you’re pretty limber, there’s a steep little path and a small bank to step down off with long timbers as a dock of sorts. The condo itself was a little disappointing. Weird old musty type smell, some strange artwork/decor the AC unit didn’t adequately cool the bedrooms, bathroom door was swelled up from shower humidity to the point to that is was sometimes impossible to close the door. They have a shared deck that is large with great view and multiple tables and chairs and a shared grill for all the condos, we were able to use it. Very small fire pit area about 5-6 people could sit around, never used it and didn’t look like anyone else did either for 4 nights we were there. Overall it was a decent place to stay but felt it was overpriced.

Winfield Inn is now called Lake Superior Lodge. We stayed here back in September 2021 in room 4 and loved it. The room was updated with nice bed, microwave and updated bathroom. You can sit on the patio chairs and there’s a great view of the gardens along with the lake
We stayed again in 2022 however we stayed in room 5. This room looked like a work in progress. There was no art or pics on the wall, the beds had no skirting or frame to make it look nice. They were updating the ac when we were there so keep in mind they are still remodeling. It’s a very nice place to stay based on price compared to the other places in town. Their deck is redone and it was relaxing to sit and enjoy the water views
We would stay again but maybe more selective in our room choices.

Cottage 20 on Sophie Lane had ample kitchen space but the great room furniture needs an upgrade. Screened in bonus room was very nice but only one ceiling fan was working in the entire cottage (in the loft bedroom) and we managed to get a half broken box fan to work. One bedroom had no circulating air and when I called to get another fan or for maintenance to come look at our broken ceiling fan I was ignored. Mallory at the front desk never returned my call or did anything to make our stay nicer. 90 degree day with humidity at nearly 70%. Way too expensive for what you get. I would not stay here again.

We've stayed here, formerly known as Winfield Inn, for the past 12+ years and upon checkout we always reserve our stay for the coming year. Under new ownership March 2021, all previously made reservations was cancelled without notice ! We've placed many many phone calls in which no one answers during business hours nor do they reply to messages left behind. Finally someone responded to my husband only to say "sorry if you've been having struggles. We are very simple to contact. We have this email address and our phone number" and was very rude and response was defensive. I sure hope their direct in-person customer service is better than how we were treated via phone and email. We will NEVER return to this place again. There are plenty of other places to stay and rent from that is bound to provide better customer service than what we have received from Lake Superior Lodge under new ownership.

Very quaint and quiet place to stay. Overlooks Lake Superior, as long as you have a lakeside view and a room that’s higher up. There are chairs outside the room to enjoy the gardens which adds an extra special touch. Just bring bug spray because it can get buggy at night. It was clean. The only reason I don’t give this an excellent is that the bed was a little worn in. We still got a good sleep regardless.

We stayed in Condo 23. It was fairly clean and very quiet. We had a family of 5 that fit comfortably. The location of these condos are PERFECT if you enjoy a short walk (we do) into town to get coffee (we liked Wonderstate) and the restaurants. We would absolutely stay there again.

We came across this place on trip advisor! The booking was very easy, they supplied a code to enter our room upon arrival. The room was nice and cool when we arrived and clean, fridge, microwave. Great Lake views and nice and quiet. The bed was super comfy and even the coffee was great. We can’t say enough good things about this place including the price was in our budget. You can walk to town but getting back back up the hill could be a challenge. We will defidently be back, great place to stay.

Let's start with the good. Good view of Lake Superior. Just know, you can not get to the shore from the hotel. Beautiful flower gardens. Very nice staff. Now the not so good. Room 30 is Not what it is described on the website. Not sure of the other rooms to be fair, we didn't have the other rooms. This room was like being in a basement. Concrete walls, very damp, and very musty smell. Definite not what we expected and not worth what we paid. But we made the best of it. Be aware, the floors are very thin. There is a condo style room above this room. Sounded like a pack of elephants running up there. This lasted all day until at least 11:30 p.m. so needless and sad to say, we cut our vacation short by one day and decided to go home early. Not sure of it's worth the rating of 3. We for sure won't be staying here again. I normally don't write reviews, but felt I needed to on this one. If you book here, make sure it's not room 30.

This motel is located just on the edge of town, a nice room, and a great view of the lake. The facility is a little dated but in good condition. When we head back to Bayfield we will stay here again. The only thing that would have made it better would have been a microwave.
