Stayed at the SF plaza hotel in September. I initially asked for a fridge, microwave and safe box but only had a fridge. When I asked if they had a safe box and microwave, they let me move into another bigger room with a safe and moved the fridge and microwave into the room too. Ceiling fan was good to keep the room cool. Very friendly and really helpful staff, always ready at reception for you. Traffic was a bit noisy but well worth the money. Handy Starbucks on the other side of the road.

To start, the smell inside the building is just horrible (you know this depressing old building smell). Secondly, they lie about the sizes of the beds, saying that it is the Queen Size, while it is a Full Size - I did my measures with the ruler, therefore, you will not get what you are paying for. The room had real sanitary problems as the bedsheets are not being changed often when the guests leave - I found in my bed many long hairs.. disgusting. And keep in mind, you will be charged 10 dollars if you ask keeping your luggage for a couple of hours after check out. If you ask to print out something, they charge you 1 dollar per page. This definitely shows their attitude to the guests.. Honestly, you don't want to stay here.

SF plaza hotel is in an ideal location! Settled right beside the China town gate...great to people watch from the hotel windows, if facing Bush St.....but city noise can be heard throughout the day and night...highly recommend bringing earplugs if one is unable to tone out noise. SF weather is usually mild and pleasant throughout the year, so AC may not be as necessary, which SF Plaza doesn't have, but occasionally does get hot and windows may be opened for the breeze. SF Plaza hotel is an older building, but good enough for the essentials....sleeping, showering, safe walking area, great food options....just have to make extra effort in looking passed cleanliness since carpet has stains, dusty nooks, random hair, and some paint chipping...plus, there is a microwave and refrigerator.....otherwise, it was a great stay with friendly staff. I recently stayed at this hotel while on a business trip, and a moust say that the staff, expecially at the fron desk[hats off to them], were not only courteous, but certainly made my stay a relaxing and fun one. I also had the previlege of meeting the GM. An absolutely lovely person. Overall a great experience, and I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a reasonably priced, comfortable hotel. Well Done SF Plaza!

We traveled as a family with grown up children. This hotel was really disappointing. The hotel was very old and rundown. The rooms were extremely small! It has a weird stench that makes you so uncomfortable. They did not clean the toilet well as there’s a lot of hair on the floor. The breakfast provided was just simple breakfast. Though the room is cheaper than some hotel, it’s much worthwhile taking others hotel.

I really liked this hotel for its category and really appreciated the hotel personnel Cris, he was so professional, warm and welcoming!! He was very accommodating with a special request also which I really appreciated. I really appreciated how CLEAN my room was, the berber carpet was spotless. The beds had a heavy sheet for the cold S.F. nights and the heater worked effectively...it's loud so can't have it on all night but that's not needed anyways. I have BOSE noise canceling earphones so street noise didn't impact me at all. If you don't have that, it may be an issue but this is downtown S.F. folks! EXCELLENT value for the PRICE/LOCATION/CLEANLINESS. It was cute, I liked it! Minus 1 star for the chair...you can't sit on it for long and work on your laptop etc.

We had stayed here last week for four nights and felt like we received fair value. Our one nighter today has us in the weirdest room I’ve ever seen. It’s very small, the sink isn’t in the bathroom, but across the entire room in the opposite corner. The only chair is a small metal desk chair. The receptionist was quite unfriendly on our arrival and totally indifferent when I gave her my opinion of the room. We would never return. I’m not sure where they got the photos of rooms for their web site but I don’t think it was this building

Nice cozy hotel, a little worn, right at the Dragon Gate to Chinatown. Smiling friendly staff. Clean room. Wifi works ok. Parking across Bush Street 2 min. Walk from hotel $35 a day. Walking distance to most plages. Pricing is ok. Continental Breakfast good.

Even my low expectations weren’t met. A decent location, pleasant lobby and friendly welcome were as good as it got. The ancient signs about renovations are still up, despite any evidence of improvement works. The hallways smell. I tried to tell myself it wasn’t urine but it probably was. The room was small, clean enough (although I only dared open the cupboard once because it Stank), noisy - but that was to be expected - and seriously in need of the promised “improvement works”. Breakfast food items were fine. The set up though had the feel of a youth hostel - definitely not allowed to take food to your room so we ate four in row facing the wall. Pay a bit more and stay somewhere else.

The 2 stars are for the location. Great. However, the hotel is abysmal. We renamed it the stinking festering plaza because of the awful smell running through reception and the corridors, it was awful! It smells damp and mouldy, but compliments the old and tired interior. There are no ‘extras’, you literally get your small room with a rubbish breakfast. Whilst the location is great, if I were you, I’d just pay the extra that it costs to stay somewhere nice. I know SF is expensive as it is, but just suck it up and don’t ruin your vacation by staying here.
