The Fairmont San Francisco garners acclaim for its historic charm and festive ambiance, particularly during the holidays, with the Tonga Room and striking views standing out as highlights for guests. However, visitors have expressed concern over additional fees, such as for WiFi and gym access. While rooms are recognized for their spaciousness, there is a consensus that they could benefit from updates. Opinions on service vary, ranging from commendations of attentiveness to frustrations with disorganization. Despite the hotel's prime Nob Hill location, the value proposition is often questioned due to unexpected costs.

I really love the look of this hotel. It's got gorgeous common spaces, my room was HUGE for a city hotel, and there's an old world glam to the whole property. My bed was unusually firm for an American hotel, which I loved, and I was provided with fresh bottled water each night.

The one major downside is that it's not a ideal location if you enjoy walking on account of the epic SF hills. You've got great views, but plan on taking rideshare back from wherever you're coming from if you've had a long day at work or sightseeing. However, this wouldn't prevent me from returning or recommending this property.

A beautiful Edwardian hotel on the top of Nob Hill in a central San Francisco location. The lobby is gorgeous and the rooms are spacious, tastefully decorated, clean and quiet.

It’s a little pricey but we’re Fairmont members and we got a decent deal for our stay. It’s well worth the cost in any case.

The hotel was very well kitted out for Covid safety. Lots of hand sanitizers abounding in the entryway and lobby, and the spacious halls and public places made it easy to keep a safe social distance from other guests.

We had a lovely room overlooking the bay and Coit Tower. The decor was tasteful and calming. The room was extremely clean and the king bed was firm with really nice bedding and linens.

Tackling the hills was a bit of a challenge coming from Illinois but we soon got the hang of it. There are a surprising number of bistros nearby and the Ferry Building and Fisherman’s Wharf are only a mile or so away.

The staff was amazingly welcoming and helpful.

Highly recommended. We’ll be staying here again on our next visit.

Spent three nights leading up to Christmas at the Fairmont. Absolutely fabulous experience from check in thru check out.

First, the lobby decorations for the holidays are extremely impressive. Children and adults alike were delighted with the variety of activities. Staff were always welcoming and engaging, and always pleasant no matter how many times they answered the same tourist questions.

Ordered room service one night. On time, well served and a great way to end the evening. We did, however, experience an issue with another guest being loud and obnoxious who responded to our requests for some quiet by banging or kicking on our doors close to midnight. A quick call to security completely resolved the matter, and although the behaviour of their guests is unpredictable, the fast and firm matter in which it was resolved provided a high level of comfort.

Checked in and went directly to our room to get changed for dinner. When we arrived at the room we found fruit, and a card for someone else. Also noted only soap in bathroom was a small used bar, and low on toilet paper. Immediately called front desk and was told that we could just throw the things out, that the cleaning staff missed our room. REALLY, I would think at $494 a nite we would get a clean room. We booked 3 rooms for a wedding at the Fairmont so we felt stuck in a overpriced used room. BTY the other 2 rooms booked at the same time for the same price were completely different. One was nice size with chandelier and window that opened the other same price room much smaller and just disappointing. We stated at the Fairmont in Seattle and LOVED it! This hotel gives Fairmont a bad name.

The hotel is beautiful and in a perfect location. The front desk and auxiliary staff inside couldn’t have been nicer. The lovely woman who checked us in was super friendly and helpful. The hotel operator and house keeping/room service staff we perfect every time we needed anything. Since we were visiting during Covid spike we totally understood the precautions taken and had no issue with mask wearing and distancing. We specifically selected a higher end luxury style hotel because we knew we would be spending more than normal hours in our room and would be dependent upon a well trained helpful staff to make our visit more stress free There were a few issues during the weekend that definitely made our stay less enjoyable than we had expected. First, the biometric temperature device registered my temperature differently on each visit. 98.9 on checkin 99.0 later in day. 100.4 the following morning. 97.8 later that afternoon. And finally 101.4 at which point I stopped using the machine as it was causing unnecessary anxiety. I had just had a neg Covid test the day prior to leaving for San Francisco but the fluctuation in the device made me very anxious that my test was incorrect.
Secondly. I am very supportive of the film industry and realize that especially during these times the hotel really benefits from the presence of film crews. We were however made to feel like we were in the way and could tell that the crew was annoyed any time we tried to enter or exit the hotel. We were asked on several different occasions not to take pictures ( which, by the way, we had no interest in doing ). The bellman asked us every single time we tried to enter the building if we were registered guests. Overall we definitely felt that our presence was more of a nuisance than a welcome.
Uber drivers were unable to pick up or drop off in the front entrance area since all the surrounding streets were closed off for filming.
Our reservation was made at least a month in advance so I’m sure the hotel was well aware of the extensive scope of this location shoot when we made our plans and could have easily notified us about the potential issues we might run into prior to our booking. More of an effort to help us navigate the situation would have been appreciated. Telling us at check in what to expect and what changes were in store for the weekend surely would have prepared us for a more pleasant experience. We got nothing. No apology for the inconvenience. No explanation. Not even an acknowledgment that this was not business as usual for the hotel.

We booked the Fairmont for 3 nights in early November directly on their website. They offer a $200 Food and Beverage credit for $160 at the time of your booking. Great deal, right? Upon checkout, it was obvious that the total amount wasn't credited to my account. They used it for a Room Service charge of $86, but the rest was just...gone. It took me well over 3 weeks and 3 emails and 4 phone calls to finally get this billing issue resolved. It's pretty clear that they are hoping that most people won't notice. Afterwards, when I complained to Guest Services, they could have cared less and sent a half hearted apology letter. Your money is much better spent at the Ritz just down the street. We have stayed there several times and they exemplify customer service.

We typically use this location during the annual JP Morgan Healthcare Conference. As with all, they significantly raise rates and are sold out. I believe more due to availability than choice. The service is just terrible. Always late deliveries from room service regardless of how many times you call and verify. Every day is a new excuse or simply they make up answers. The rest of the property operates in chaos and service at every level would rate a “D” at best. Of course no one in a management level is available and you stay on the phone endlessly.
Perhaps they are decent in “non peak” times but for major events there are better operated properties. If you are stuck here for an event then be prepared to pay 2X or 3X normal and be in chaos at best. Value for your money is not a positive.

This was supposed to be a business trip in a top hotel. Everything started as expected during check-in. i told them that because of a confusion i had 2 bookings on consecutive days and wanted to stay at the same room and not have to change rooms. A very nice guy helped me and told me not to worry. he also told me that my room was not ready but they could send me an SMS to inform when ready. This never happened; luckily i had a lot to do in the city and could work somewhere else.
Next day was terrible. I stayed working in my room the whole morning, when someone knocked the door and was surprised when i said i wasn´t leaving that day because my check-out was in 2 days. 2 hours later, another person with same question. Mid afternoon again, another person knocked the door with the same question, told the same and said it was ok. Then a 4th person came, i was having a nap. He woke me up because he was bringing fruit and water that i never asked for. My nap is far more important than a bowl of fruit and water.
The next day i complained about that at front desk and they were surprised when i started arguing, she checked, found out what happened and told me that i should have come downstairs to check in again. I would certainly have done that if told at check-in and would have had a better time, but was never told. Not an apology from anybody.
The fitness center has a cost. Nobody told me that, even though i asked where to go running and they recommended me to go to the gym.
According to my experience the staff should require more training to give an experience according to the price i was paying to stay there. And please invest in a CRM; had you have one, you could have avoided this situation.

The hotel is in a great location and the building is very Grand but we have stayed at Fairmont Banff and Vancouver this year and we’re a bit disappointed overall.

Our room was very tired looking and could do with a refresh, despite the bathroom being huge there was no walk in shower or heating.
The food in the hotel was good, despite being Christmas we had no problems getting seats, customer service was good.
The Christmas atmosphere was very welcoming in the hotel lobby and everyone was very friendly

Preference for a room away from the elevators is on my Accor profile as well as the room reservation for this stay. Despite that, I was assigned to a room directly across from the bank of elevators and was subject to the elevator dings and guests conversations throughout the night.

Despite providing a soap dish at the sink, a bar of soap was not provided. To wash my hands, I had to reach into the shower and use the soap pump that was BOLTED TO THE WALL of the shower.

During my last stay, slippers, shower cap and vanity items (cotton balls, cotton swabs) were provided, so I did not pack these things. They were not provided this time, and I was informed that these items are only available "upon request."

Despite sharing these concerns in the kindest possible manner at checkout, I was not offered any compensation to address my complaints. So disappointed in the Fairmont.

Good day, Thank you for being an ALL member with us and for your recent visit. I am so sorry that we failed to meet your expectations during this visit and that we were unable to find a room that better suited your preferences. You will find that the state of California has banned all single use plastic bottles and other single use hotel bathroom amenities beginning in 2023 and I apologize for any inconvenience this change has caused you. Our hotel does offer all of the amenities you mentioned completely free of additional charges, and I am so sorry again that we failed to meet your expectations by not placing these items in any of our guest rooms prior to arrival. We do not anticipate a change in that regard in the near future but we are always happy to provide the items that make you comfortable ahead of your arrival when requested. Thank you again for sharing your concerns and giving us an opportunity to learn from your experience and I am again so sorry that we were unable to meet your expectations of providing single use bath items and amenities prior to your arrival.
