Nestled in a prime spot that's close to attractions and the waterfront, the Hyatt Regency San Francisco garners compliments for its stylish renovations and modern vibe. While guests enjoy the impressive views and comfortable beds, some have encountered noise disturbances and a lack of room service. The friendly staff is often highlighted, though there have been mentions of sporadic service. Travelers are fond of the hotel's clean environment but are critical of the additional fees, which some feel diminish the hotel's overall value.

We loved our stay at this hotel. We took our young son for his birthday to visit SF & Berkeley. Our room was spacious, clean, quiet, comfortable, and had a magical view of the Bay Bridge-panoramic view. We loved how quiet and clean the room was. Beds comfortable and pillows not too high was nice. Housekeeping were so friendly and brought us a microwave. The front desk check in staff are friendly and easy to talk to. They were hospitable and welcoming and helped clarify billing questions at ease. Breakfast buffet staff were also friendly and down to earth. The hotel facility is clean, nice and spacious but it has its own coziness and warmth from the staff. The location was superb! The Embarcadero bart station right in front, the major bus lines right in front and the Presidio Go bus that goes free to Presidio Park which drops you at a walking distance to the Golden Gate Bridge. We took a nice stroll to Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown and Union Square. We took a easy ride to Berkeley to visit my old campus. Then an easy ride on the bart to SFO. We booked a rental car, but we never picked it up and decided to use public transportation the whole time and it was easy and comfortable- even if we are so used to having our own car on travels. No stress about parking. My son scootered all around SF and Berkeley, even on the Golden Gate Bridge. The location is so prime along with this hotel that provided everything we needed to our comfort, and it is very safe. We had a wonderful stay.

We were guests over the July 4th weekend and had a great experience. The doormen and bellmen were very friendly and helpful and Tashi at the Front Desk gave exceptional service.
The location was very convenient as one of our priorities was the Farmer’s Market at the Ferry Building on Saturday. There were plenty of eating establishments close by, but be aware that most closed by 8pm unless further on the Embarcadero.
The room was clean and spacious. The beds were firm and the shower pressure was great. The only down side was the in-room safe did not work, but we did not need it so did not inform maintenance. We were expecting housekeeping not to be available because of Covid protocols, but they did service the room.
There is a destination fee, but because the restaurant was not open, they gave us a $15 a day credit at the Market.
We also self-parked our rental car and the Front Desk gave us a $5 per day credit at the garage next door.
The staff really made our stay enjoyable.

I was fortunate to have a nice room with the view of the Bay Bridge, however, also found that when from a midwest town, not used to the traffic noise during the night! The hotel seems to be aware of that sort of problem and supplied ear plugs and white noise machines in the room which did help to drown out the sirens, honking and garbage trucks. Rooms are clean, beds are extremely comfortable and staff are helpful (had a broken shower handle that was fixed quickly – with a note of apology from management). Greatly appreciated having an in room safe, refrigerator and Keurig. Cannot beat the location as it is directly across from the Port of San Francisco (Ferry Building) with many options for transportation. The quick food offering spot had many options that were fresh and tasty. The restaurant was a bit slow and expensive ($34 for breakfast buffet).
As for business portion of the trip, it was a great place for meetings. Having the conference in the same building was perfect. Comfortable meeting spaces with food/drinks supplied made attending so easy!
We had a few issues with the concierge service – 1) poor directions returning to hotel from a trip – ended up stopping somewhere safe to call a cab and 2) she didn’t offer the airport shuttle until we pointed out the sign displayed (it seemed like a surprise that the option was available). It would be helpful for the hotel to provide more information regarding how to use public transportation (as cash is not always an option).

I helped my husband arrange a night here for NYE to watch the fireworks from the room because I have limited mobility due to an injury. We have a place in downtown SF but can’t see the fireworks from our place and I didn’t want to try to maneuver the crowds, being completely familiar with the event every year. I called before booking to ensure there were still rooms left facing the direction that would have a view of them. I then booked the correct room type and immediately sent another request saying we are locals explaining the entire reason was to watch the fireworks from the room/balcony. I did get a “confirmed” note next to that request in the profile. Long story short, despite arriving right at check in time (4pm) we got a room where no fireworks could be seen even from balcony (thankfully I knew this upon entering because I know where they are set off), I saw there was still an extremely long line to check in, spoke with manager and while the manager spoke to us professionally and kindly, there were no other rooms to offer us. I had to leave the hotel to watch them, which I could’ve easily done from my home.

There’s plenty of reviews about the hotel itself, the condition, etc. so here’s my warning if you’re thinking of booking for a special occasion or a particular view. There were a lot of other small problems during the stay which I won’t nit pick but the only good things I can say about this place, is it’s location if you want to be around the Embarcadero (note for those not familiar it’s about a 30+ minute walk to the more touristy pier 39/fisherman’s wharf, and there’s a Hyatt closer if that’s where you’re aiming to be).

Pics of the unacceptable check in line- it got even longer after we checked in

I travel a lot for work and am a Hyatt Globalist (more than 60 nights spent at Hyatt properties per year). This hotel is well below the standard one would come to expect of a Hyatt Regency, and I would claim it almost all can be traced back to lack of proper management oversight.

I was at the hotel from a Sunday through Thursday. During the whole time, the elevators were not working properly, which is a problem for a hotel of this size. Most importantly, the elevator call button on the Regency Club level at the top of the hotel wasn't working, meaning that once you got up there using the single elevator that was working, you were essentially stuck there until someone else came up to bring the elevator to you.

At several times during the week, people were apparently stuck up there for more than 30 minutes at a time. Occasionally (this happened to me twice), the club lounge staff would take people back down using the service elevators, but they claimed that management had forbidden them to do this.

Of course, what any sensible manager at any well operating hotel would have done is install a human inside the elevator with a walkie-talkie, and a second one up in the lounge, to make sure that the guests who had paid extra to use the lounge or had lounge privileges would be able to enjoy the lounge. Instead, they made both the guests and the poor lounge staff scramble.

To make things worse, because the key card access control system to the elevators also wasn't working, really anyone could just go up to the lounge. This led to at times total overcrowding of the lounge with people who most probably weren't supposed to be there at all, but nobody was ever asked to give a room number or show that they were entitled to use the lounge. At breakfast on one day, there was a group who set up a veritable office suite up in the lounge, with a dozen computers and multiple phones and just behaved as if that was their private property, fielding loud and obnoxious client calls from multiple telephones.

In the four nights that I stayed, my bedsheets were never changed. I was under the impression that the bedding change frequency at Hyatt hotels was at most three nights.

Although my Globalist status was acknowledged verbally at the time of check in, I was not offered any upgrade. That in spite of the fact that at the time of checkin, the Hyatt app showed not just standard suites readily available for the duration of my stay, but also showed that rooms in the category that I got would actually have cost $80 less per night than I was paying if I had simply been a walk-in without a reservation.

This is a hotel that is to be avoided unless you have an event inside the hotel. And if you do, you may want to re-check rates a few days before arrival, because you may wind up (as I did) paying hundreds of dollars more for a supposedly discounted "conference rate" when the walk in rate would in fact be a lot lower.

The hotel's heating system is very noisy. They provide ear plugs. Sleep quality is low.

I stayed at the Hyatt Regency for 4 nights during a conference. I did receive a conference rate of $259/night. I was offered an upgrade to a balcony room at check in for only $30 extra/night and jumped at it. For me, the balcony was worth it as I love to drink my morning coffee on the balcony watching the city wake-up with a gorgeous view of the harbor.

My room was on the 14th floor. The room was a hike from the elevators because of the lay-out of the atrium.

The room itself was large, especially in comparison to many downtown city hotels that I have stayed at previously. The bathroom was large with a huge sink area with plenty of room for all my stuff. The large shower stall had a rainfall shower head along with a wand that could be activated for a forceful jet of water. There were several hooks for hanging up towels for reuse, a nice environmental touch.

The living area also had a cute set of hooks that almost looked like a piece of artwork. There was a small fridge that worked well, along with a coffee maker and safe. The closet itself was small (it would have been too small for 2 people there for 4 days), but it was big enough for what I needed. The desk area was large with several outlets and there were also outlets on each nightstand. My favorite thing was the Homedics white noise machine. I definitely need to buy one of these. It was a nice accessory to have for a city hotel that always has the possibility of ambient street noise. The air conditioning worked great. The balcony was a decent size for one person, and included a chair, foot stool, and side table.

I received daily maid service (not a given in every hotel these days). My room was always spotlessly clean.

I ate dinner at the hotel my first night as I was fighting to stay awake after having traveled from the east coast and didn't feel like exploring. The service was excellent at the bar. The fish tacos were quite tasty, but they were a tad pricey.

I used the fitness center every morning which is located on the Atrium level and open 24/7. All of the equipment I used was top notch. There were 6 Life Fitness ellipticals, 4 bicycles, 6 treadmills, 2 gliders, a rower, Nautilus type weight machines, a universal type weight machine, spin bikes, free weights, yoga mats and balls, plus plenty of sanitizing wipes and towels.

There were so many restaurants within an easy 5 block walk of the hotel, which was fantastic for entertaining clients. We tried the Royal Exchange, Tadich, International Smoke, Bix, and Perbaccos.

I never had to wait more than 3 minutes for an elevator at the Hyatt. The longest waits were only during the busiest times (around 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.).

All the staff I encountered were kind and helpful, including the bell hops, doormen, front desk, and restaurant.

I would not hesitate to stay at this Hyatt again.

We stayed overnight for a Recology event and loved everything about the Hyatt. Location was perfect, right across the street from the Ferry Building with gorgeous views of the Bay Bridge. We opted for a standard room which had partial views of the bridge.

The room was spacious and bed was comfortable. The bathroom offered eco friendly and organic products.

There is an extensive market with coffee, chilled wine/beer, snacks, hot sandwiches, and pizza. There is a lounge next to the market for drinks and hanging out.

Staff were professional and friendly throughout our stay. On the day of checkout, I realized I left my Apple Watch in my room, and staff were quick to find my watch and returned it to me without any issues.

Great location to stay at if you want to walk around Downtown and Fisherman's Wharf area. Hope to be back soon for another Recology event!

Great location at the Embarcadero, steps away from a huge number of excellent food options in the Ferry Building across the street, and a cable car right outside. Walkable to Chinatown, trolleys by the Ferry Building will take you to Fisherman's Wharf
Loved the layout of the room and the famous atrium lobby. We had a "second floor" room (probably more like 5 or 6 stories up) so we heard some overnight construction noise from Market Street but never had to use the provided white noise machine or earplugs. We also really appreciated all of the USB jacks and outlets scattered throughout the room — great for multi-device couples. Would love to stay here again on future visits to SF.

Stayed at one of the small but modern rooms from late 2019 with direct view to the ferry building. The view is fantastic, the brutalist architecture of the hotel is interesting, and the location is perfect for public transport. But the room IS small, there is no inside handle on the sliding shower door, the water pressure in the shower will make a cat happy, and the destination fee... they don’t tell and don’t expect a gift or anything else of what is mentioned on their home page. A complete scam. So... location but bad service. Not worth repeating.

This hotel will rip you off with a $29 "destination fee" that I subsequently found out includes a meal credit at the restaurant, discounts, a souvenir, etc.
Neither the fee nor the associated services were disclosed until they ran my card at check out. Also I had a weird old trapezoidal room with a view into offices so I had to keep the curtains closed the entire time. I stayed at the Hilton the next night and it was so much better- the room was larger, bathroom was nicer, view was better, and service was better. The hilton cost less and no hidden fees. The concierge at checkin at the Hyatt wouldn't answer any questions and seemed mad I asked him how to get to my room.
