Just steps from the Powell Street cable car, very near Union Square/the shopping district, location is excellent. That said, the walk up that steep hill is challenging so I paid the $7 just to ride the cable car up the hill at the end of the day. This is clearly an old hotel with various retro-fixing to modernize. Don't even...

Dear Jane Cutler, Thank you for some good words that you wrote about us and posted on Trip Advisor. Yes, our small Victorian Cornell Hotel cannot compare with the soulless big establishments. Our elevator can easily hold seven persons (permit available). We limited the number to four in order to protect the inside decorations of what is considered by many...

The rooms are a little small, like France, but very charming. The fixed price dinners are really terrific. lamb, rabbit, duck; soup, soufle desserts. The owner and Maitre d', Claude, is also very pleasant and hospitable. All the wall decorations are from small antigue shop in a hilltop town about halfway between Paris and Beaune (Burgundy), across the street from...

Who knew this little gem of a place existed? Such a lovely, thoughtfully decorated, boutique hotel with a French theme. Yes, it is missing the more modern conveniences of the big hotel chains but what it lacks there it makes up for in charm. We were greeted by a friendly gentleman in the office and walked up to our room,...

The location is very convenient to the central area of Union Square and other areas of interest. The hotel itself is very quaint older style but has all the comforts that you could want. Rooms are a good size, the breakfast was fantastic. The owners were very approachable and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. All take pride...

This charming hotel is absolutely the only place worth staying in SF. It was quiet, comfortable, adorable, and the staff were friendly. Breakfast is simple, but perfect. It's so much better than the dozens of cookie cutter hotels in the city.

Lovely hotel in a quiet location within walking distance of Union Square. Cornell Hotel de France is a boutique hotel with a definite french feel to it. The art work is amazing and delightful. Our room, although a little on the small side, was adequate for our needs with a very comfortable bed and windows that opened so we could...

They walked us into our room when we checked in, which was a first. The room was small and old but spotlessly clean. Breakfast was also very good. Seemed like all the other visitors spoke French which was kind of cool.

A friend and I just returned from a few days away. I prefer to stay in a smaller hotel. What a lovely experience to have spent time in the Cornell, a setting that was cozy as well as attentive to our needs! An added bonus was having the flavor of France while in the States--almost like having two vacations... The...
