I had stayed here in 2007 and had a fantastic time, decided to come back in 2011 and was really disappointed, the room was clean but the staff were no longer as friendly and welcoming. It didn't help there was a group of school kids on our floor on the first night who spent the whole night yelling and running...

By San Francisco standards, the Carlton provides good value in a simple setting. We appreciated such positive amenities as a very comfortable king bed, ceiling fan, good shower in a nicely sized bathroom, and free high-speed internet that lives up to the name. The neighborhood is borderline but also not bad by SF standards and, as a native New Yorker...

Three sisters' vacation to San Fran and Napa started at the Carlton. From the moment we arrived, the staff treated us as friends. They are warm, funny, and very helpful. The wine reception was such a nice touch to the evening. The rooms were clean, but we were on the street side, so a little noisy. Location is perfect; we...

On a 3 week tour holiday in USA - stayed in several locations, this was the only hotel that I had issues with. Yes it is quirky and friendly - location is workable ....... but please sort out the bathrooms!!!! Mold, black scum and "other" stains are not acceptable - even if you" dont use bleach"! We arrived in San Francisco very early as we had to drop a hire car off so arrived at the hotel at 9am. There was no problem checking us in at that time. The check staff and concierge was really friendly and so helpful,we even thought they might moonlight as comedians. When the found out my partner was in the...

We went to San Francisco to get married at the end of July and stayed at the Carlton for ten nights. Before (and after) booking I had read lots of reviews on Trip Advisor and was apprehensive about the location although the good reviews of staff swayed it for me. I am so glad that we stayed here. On arrival,...

A website that my husband I were looking at advertised that Hotel Carlton was located in the Fisherman's Wharf area however it is actually in Nob Hill. But the area was great. Lots of little places to eat and somewhat off the beaten path which was nice. We did walk back to the hotel from Fisherman's Wharf one day and...

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. Quite clean and comfortable, but no breakfast provided. There is a coffee shop nearby the hotel which the owner is Chinese. We like the breakfast there, and went to the same shop continuous for 2 days. It's a bit far from the cable car station, quite tiring to walk back.

Pros: 1. The staff are super friendly and very helpful. They printed some documents for us so we wouldn't be charged to use the computer. They look like they like their jobs, and make it for a pleasant atmosphere. The staff is also super accommodating. They replaced our broken room hair dryer in minutes. They gave us wine glasses to...
