If you are tossing up between staying somewhere at Fishermans Wharf or here, stay here! We are so glad we didn't stay at Fishermans Wharf - way too touristy and misses the point of San Fran. This place felt great to stay at, easy to get around using public transport, fab little bar serving meals late next door. Only complaint...

Excellent Service throughout the entire stay - from start to finish. We had our flights cancelled due to Hurricaine Irene and the hotel kindly put us up for 2 extra nights at a fair rate. Every member of staff we met was so friendly and helpful n made u feel right at home and safe. One fo the front of...

The Carlton has a good location, it's only about a 10 minute walk to Union Square. The staff are very friendly, the room was spotless, there's free wifi - all good things, however the whole feeling of the hotel is just ok. There's no fridge in the room, and the walls are paper thin, so if you're a light sleeper...

We came here as the start of are road trip across california/Nevada and from as we stepped in the lobby after a 12 hour flight we felt right at home. The concierage was friendly and cracked a few jokes. Although our room wasn't ready when we arrived we were perfectly content sitting in a comfortable and warm lobby styled with...

Hip little hotel right in the middle of the business district. Rooms were clean and well appointed. The staff was young and friendly. Don't remember if they had room service or a restaurant on site. After all who wants to eat in their room in San Francisco.

This hotel was ok for us. The room was smaller than most we had during our 4 weeks tour in CA. But that is normal for SF it seems. The room was clean and had a safe, which most rooms didn't have. What makes this hotel ideal is it's location. We walked in about 20 min to Chinatown, had the...

I had stayed here in 2007 and had a fantastic time, decided to come back in 2011 and was really disappointed, the room was clean but the staff were no longer as friendly and welcoming. It didn't help there was a group of school kids on our floor on the first night who spent the whole night yelling and running...

By San Francisco standards, the Carlton provides good value in a simple setting. We appreciated such positive amenities as a very comfortable king bed, ceiling fan, good shower in a nicely sized bathroom, and free high-speed internet that lives up to the name. The neighborhood is borderline but also not bad by SF standards and, as a native New Yorker...

Three sisters' vacation to San Fran and Napa started at the Carlton. From the moment we arrived, the staff treated us as friends. They are warm, funny, and very helpful. The wine reception was such a nice touch to the evening. The rooms were clean, but we were on the street side, so a little noisy. Location is perfect; we...

Yes it is quirky and friendly - location is workable ....... but please sort out the bathrooms!!!! Mold, black scum and "other" stains are not acceptable - even if you" dont use bleach"!
