Pros: + Very clean room. + Good location in the center of the city with great transport links. + Modern furnishings. Cons: - Parking was not theirs and is not cheap (they consider it cheap for SF standards but is a significant amount of overhead on the room). - Shared bathroom and toilet. I knew that going in but one...

The pictures are misleading as they show only the "suites" that have bathrooms, this is not a hotel its a hostel and a bad one at that. When you walk in they want to give the ilusion that its a tiny boutique hotel but really it is all smoke and mirrors. The rooms have no AC, the so called shared...

Value-wise you couldn't really ask for more. It's clean and simple and right in the heart of Union Square. Staff was friendly and I felt safe. There's free Wi-Fi too. I agree that it's not the quietest place to stay but that has nothing to do with the hotel's management of the property–it's just in a busy part of town....

There are a few pluses in the reconditioning of the hotel. However, the hotel had zero desks and zero drawers for travelers. For a long stay, this meant dirty clothes went back into the suitcase with all the clean ones. Could not get a bar of soap for the soap dishes, nor any ice machines. They suggest buying ice next...

We were here with 3 friends. Staff is very friendly. Rooms are ok, nothing special. But the location is really perfect. In the middle of the center, opposite the cable-car. Even the pier where you leave for Alcatraz is reachable by feeth.

Decent room for the price. Clean, and conveniently located. Friendly helpful staff. If you need silence to sleep, this won't work for you as they have thin walls, noisy plumbing & heating, and are right beside trolley cars.

We only stayed here for 1 night on our last night in San Francisco. We booked a private room with a shared bathroom however we were upgraded to a room with a bathroom at check in. Rooms were basic but clean and tidy. Our room was nice and quiet (it was towards the back or the hotel, away from Powell...

Lovely historical building in Union Square. Built in 1909, it has lots of character. Front desk staff was extremely helpful whenever we had questions, printing off directions, restaurants, transportation routes from their computer for us. The only downside to this hotel is that because it's so old you can hear the pipes whenever someone uses the water to shower etc....

I was traveling with my 12 year old son and it was our first time to San Francisco so I didn't know the area at all when looking for a hotel and wanted something in a good area safe for us. I stumbled on an excellent deal with this hotel, the reviews were promising so I booked and was so...

The Herbert Hotel was perfect for our little weekend getaway. The room was simple (minimal furnishings) and the bathroom was very clean. Just what you are looking for if you just need a place to rest your head. Even better, the hotel is located right in Union Square and the cable car is right outside the hotel.
