The location of this hostel is down some back streets in the more dangerous side of San Francisco. Although it is fairly easy to access from the airport, be aware of your surroundings as people loiter on the streets. The hostel itself does not feel very safe. It is very dirty, the carpets desperately needed a hoover, marks on the...

Well it could be worse. The place is a bit run down and the carpet smells in every floor. The surrounding neighborhood is not great, so girls better stay in groups. Don't expect anything fancy, you get what you pay for. If you have balls of steal and a budget it does it's job but for everyone else spend few...

Pros: ------ Budget hostel for a backpacker. Close to the city center. Cons: ------- Staff is not co-operative and not friendly. Beds are not clean. Shared bathroom is very small. It is located in the very dangerous alley of San Francisco where the crime rate is too high. Very unsafe. Had a hard time in locating this hostel inside the...

Decent price considering the cost of everything in San Francisco but the location is in quite a dodgy area so it's not great if you're travelling alone. Also some of the people staying at the hostel were a bit creepy so once again, not great if you're alone! Had all of the necessary facilities and was fine for a short...

For those who have not been to San Francisco in the past few years, it has become prohibitively expensive. This little guest house, which is not far from 9th street Bart and Muni transit stations is easy to get to and costs very little in comparison to the expensive rates you'll normally find in today's San Fransisco. This is a...

Stayed here in May 2016. I felt very unsafe walking around directly outside hostel. The bathrooms were unclean and staff not friendly or helpful. Bedroom was very cramped. Would not recommend this hostel to anyone.

If I could give this hostel zero stars I would!!! Without a doubt the worst place I've ever been. The rooms were vile, the toilets and shower area were grim and dirty. The bunk beds were dirty and extremely unsafe to use and were duck taped up. I never expect amazing accommodation when I pay cheap prices, however, this was...

A good hostel should be a friendly, welcoming, clean environment to which explore a new city. Sadly AAE SF is none of these! It is dirty, dated and lacks any sort of charm. We were in a dorm room of 4 which was tiny, cramped and got sweltering hot at night time with no ventilation. The carpet was dirty and...

This hostel was the cheapest place available in San Francisco. It was fairly close to a BART station which was helpful when coming from the airport. It is also a short walk away from several bus stops. However, the part of town it is in is quite dodgy. There are beggars and homeless people everywhere. As a young woman, I...

that could be found through world wide web in San Francisco. However the quality of accomodation is not even close to two stars declared. The rooms are tiny, two-floored beds are shaky, which really felt when person above or below you is moving, rooms are tiny, not even a hook to handle some closes, some rooms are very cold in...

    Staying in SoMa

    Neighbourhood Profile
    SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighbourhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighbourhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
