This is a well-run establishment of old San Francisco that was great for our 5-night stay. An old brothel, and later used to shelter the homeless after the great earthquake of 1906, the place has neat antique furniture and pleasant ambience. Hot breakfasts were tasty and accompanied by a selection of fresh fruit and cereal. If one enjoys walking, the...

We got booted out of our Air BnB for the Thanksgiving holidays due to a conflict with the city. Wow, I am sure glad we did because we found the Montecristo! This place exceeded all our expectations. It is in a fairly quiet neighborhood for SF and is in walking distance to parts of UCSF medical center. It is an...

Our stay at Monte Cristo was great in every respect. From the booking, early check-in to room selection and great restaurant recommendations, Jack was most accommodating. Although on a busy street, the rooms are quiet and very comfortable. We enjoyed the afternoon coffee and pastries in the breakfast area every afternoon after having strolled the city. Breakfasts are also very...

Jack was tremendously helpful and patient with us. When I brought back part of my lunch, he brought a small refrigerator to our room for my left-overs. Talk about service! I really enjoyed the breakfasts there too. Nick's cooking and food presentation is wonderful. And he shares his recipes. They're great folks and we had a great stay.

My sister and I decided to book a BnB instead of a hotel for our first time in San Fran, and the Monte Cristo did not disappoint. It is not amongst the hustle and bustle of Union Square but instead tucked away more near the San Francisco bridge, which I personally preferred. There are easy bus links or a quick...

Stayed at this lovely b&b for a few days whilst in San Francisco and have nothing but praise - a very welcoming greeting, large clean rooms, lovely bathroom, fantastic breakfast and pleasant lounge. The location takes about an hour to walk to Union Square (which we were more than happy to do) or why not take a stroll to Van...

I wanted to stay near the Presidio with a friend who was visiting SF for the first time. I booked Monte Cristo due to the TA reviews and it didn't disappoint. Wonderful hosts, great food and terrific bed/room. We had the suite so that we would have extra space and it was a really great room. Parking as USF parking...

Instead of staying in a high-rise hotel filled with tourists in a crowded loud area, do as we did and book a room at the Monte Cristo Bed and Breakfast. We stayed in one of the smaller rooms on the first floor of the inn. This worked well for us. Within the room was an armoire and a dresser in...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
If the walls of the Monte Cristo could talk, what stories they could tell, for this remarkable building has been a part of San Francisco since 1875. When the great fire swept the city after the 1906 earthquake, homes were put to the torch on Van Ness Avenue to create a firebreak, and the 'Saloon' not only survived, it served as a refuge for the newly post-quake homeless. This European-style B&B is convenient to the entire city and is at the junction of three great neighborhoods, Presidio Heights, Pacific Heights, and Laurel Heights. It is in one of the cleanest neighborhoods in San Francisco with abundant street parking. It is only two blocks to the elegantly restored Victorian shops, Zagat-rated restaurants and antique stores on Sacramento Street. It's within walking distance to shopping on Union Street and Fillmore Street. ... more   less
