TERRIBLE AND RUDE. Place smells and full of vermin. Customer service is non-existent. Front desk and management basically tells guests to go to hell. I can not emphasize enough how bad of ripoff this place is.
Hotel location is great and room was comfortable. Valet parking was convenient, but expensive. I expected a little bit more (no ac in the hotel, not that san francisco is hot, but it is something expected in a hotel in the us). Everybody in the...More
Terrible place! Smelly, old and seems pricey for what they have to offer which isn’t much. Rat traps everywhere which clearly means they have a cleaning problem and can’t keep rats away. The manager is rude and not helpful at all. I feel bad for...More

Fairmont Hotel close by for drinks. Nice safe neighborhood
As the oldest in North America, San Francisco's Chinatown is an exotic experience. A unique neighbourhood decorated with colourful shops, historic streetlights, hanging lanterns, and pagoda roofs awaits behind the stone-carved dragon gates. Feast on dim sum at the tea houses, or meet the locals who gather at historic Portsmouth Square to play chess or practice Tai Chi. Fish markets, produce stands,
tourist shops, jewelry stores, fortune tellers, temples and restaurants come together to create a world unto itself in this historic neighbourhood.

Luckily we didn't have a car while in the downtown area of San Francisco! We had rented a car at the airport (3-hour ordeal!!) to tour Napa Valley. Powell Place has no parking but you could call them for local parking options possibly with their pre-arranged discount!?! As another consideration, there are shuttle services to/from the airport for reasonable fees (~$15/person). Perhaps, you could park in proximity (free?) to the airport and shuttle, depending upon alternative parking costs and length of stay. Powell Place is well situated on cable car route and a nice place! Enjoy and safe travels!
