OK hotel. Had to get a heater in the room the first night however Yang was extremely helpful. This is San Francisco so you know the rooms are small but who stays in the room. There was a $20 fee to put a refrigerator in the room which was dirty when it arrived once again they did give us another one. Breakfast is only coffee tea or donuts/danishes. The cost for a Lyft or Uber from this hotel to fisherman‘s wharf is about five dollars, to the airport not even $20. You can walk to Union Square Macy’s etc. however be prepared for deep inclines coming back up

Hotel is dated with a lot of mismatched furniture, but if you are looking for a good location with basic needs- this is just fine. Hot shower, breakfast of pastries and coffee. Bed was average.

Hotel staff was very friendly. Luggage storage is out in the public lobby (exposed) and they provide you a lock.

This hotel is very reasonably priced compared to a lot of hotels in San Francisco, and it is only a 20-25 minute walk away from the waterfront and the main tourist attractions. A continental breakfast is included in the price and the staff were pleasant. There's no resturant onsite but there a plenty of eatries within a few minutes walk. The only issue I had was with the radiator in the room which seemed to come on and off automatically especially during the day which seemed like a waste, but perhaps I was not using the controls properly.

Very disappointing. They tried canceling our stay on the day we arrived (after traveling from the east coast) even after confirming our reservation 7 days prior. They even said that the city would be reopened on 6/1/20 which was a lie. This was a wasted 13th birthday trip for our daughter. No coffee or breakfast inside, no fridge in the rooms, no lock on the bathroom doors and a horrible view of a wall. The cleaning staff is what earned them a 2 star because they would have gotten a 0 star. Over priced and very undelivered

Great location (felt safe even late at night) and price which even included free pastries for breakfast. We arrived very late (after midnight) due to our flights being delayed but there was someone on reception when we arrived and allowed us into our room.
Rooms are basic/dated but as per images on the website so no surprise.
I would recommend buying public transport tickets online as it was half the price rather then to go to the local chemist.

Hotel is old....not a chain, independently run, very friendly staff, willing to help and interact. That said, the hotel is a classic, it’s been painted up to accommodate guests, and it’s plenty good enough for the price you pay! The sheets and carpets were clean, the bathroom seemed newly decked and was lovely, great shower. The room was small and not many sockets. It a deal breaker.

We would book and stay again as the location?.....Well that’s another story. It’s the best possible for Chinatown, union sq, the trolleys etc. Brilliant.

If old hotels aren't your style, don't go. If you want a great location without the price, friendly service, continental breakfast, go! We spent four nights here and would definitely return. This place is walking distance 2 minutes to Union Square, 3 blocks from the entrance to Chinatown, 20 minutes to North Beach, 10 minutes to Powell Street Bart Station.

This is no luxury hotel
But it is so comfortable. The staff were lovely. Every morning we looked forward to fresh muffins and pastries. In reception there was a variation of coffees, teas and the best hot chocolate
The bed was really comfort. Great WiFi
Would highly recommend

The Grant Hotel is indeed very well located. It is in a walking distance to many San Francisco "to see" touristic places. If you like to walk, it is even possible to go to Chinatown, to the Embarcadero, to SFMoMa, to the city administration buildings nearby to the great SF Public Library and SF Asian Art Museum. Also, there are MANY restaurants nearby to Grant Hotel.
The hotel is clean, and the amenities are OK. However, the breakfast is not really a breakfast. It includes pastries and coffee, that's all, nothing else. Also, in my experience guests do not behave very well. The hotel managers should have more strict policies for noisy guests, to avoid bothering people trying to sleep. Ah, there are also two nearby small markets, and a loundry shop. Very convenient.

The hotel was fine, it does exactly what it says on the tin, close to Union Square and Bart station ( if you are coming from abroad download the Clipper card save$3 per head) The room had Iron board and Iron hair dryer safe .
There is free pastries, tea and coffee available every morning.
There is also a computer and printer if you need to print of boarding passes. There is a microwave oven for public use .
Staff were very friendly, wifi was OK,daily room service.
I would have preferred a fridge in the room, but it wasn't a big issue.
There is a water and ice machine in the foyer

We got a Uber from San Francisco International Airport March 2019 @ 1930hrs and it was $33. From the Grant Hotel to Oakland Airport @ 0745hrs it was $51 and although similar distance the cost was higher due to being peak period.

Bags can be stored in the lobby and will be tied up with a bike lock style chain. Would be worth making sure your bags are padlocked aswell. Very helpful front house staff

How to reach hotel from San Francisco international airport
Answer from Maria3851
Frankenthal, Germany28 contributions22 helpful votes
Use airport shuttle bus outside the arrival hall. Where bus and taxi rank are parked. There are persons with tablet or laptop taking booking on the spot. It costs US 17.00 per person. They take you door to door on your designated hotel. Just remember to tip them, so on your departure date you can use them again. Its better than taxi and cheaper. Airport is about 17miles away.
