Clean, good location, comfortable beds, hot shower with good water pressure. Very basic. If you’re looking for luxury this isn’t it. But the stay was comfortable. Location was a bit away from main tourist areas, but we liked that, and yet it’s all within walking distance if you want to walk it. Good restaurants in the area. We would recommend Split.
Bathroom is small. But we appreciated the fridge, coffee pot, microwave, iron and blow dryer, even if not the most powerful.
A few things I was disappointed in... we had to ask for fresh towels. Our tv wouldn’t work but they fixed it promptly, and plenty of choices for our “down time.” Pillows were FLAT, which I didn’t like, but my daughter did. And vending machines were out of everything every time we tried to get something.

Overall I liked our stay, location and we always felt safe walking in the area. I would recommend, but don’t expect frills.

We recently stayed four nights as a family, including two small children, exploring San Francisco. Though reviews were good, I still wasn't expecting the good value that I believe we got.

First, we normally book through Hotels.com, but booking directly through Castle Inn, we got a much better price - awesomeness starts here!

The onsite parking was probably the biggest plus, and though I was a little concerned given the rash of recent car break ins in San Francisco, we completely emptied our vehicle, left open our console and glove box, and had no problem, another win.

I anticipated an older hotel with commensurately older room finishings, but our room looked and felt brand new, updated, modern. Beds were big and comfortable. DirecTV and wifi worked well. A/C was great. Overall, a much better room than we anticipated.

And as other reviewers have mentioned, the location is fantastic, especially if one learns to use the bus system, which is very easy. We were easily to Fisherman's Wharf, to Chinatown, down into the Castro, over to Golden Gate Park and more. And we felt very safe there, like we had a good, comfortable home base.

We would definitely stay again, thanks Castle Inn.

Being an older property, I didn't expect much but it was great. The room was large, clean and updated with new windows, crown molding, nice shower, sink, frig & micro and comfortable beds. The location is perfect, steps from public transportation (I highly recommend getting a 1 or 3 day visitor pass with the Muni app) and steps to restaurants and a great market (Real Food Co). We had some issues with no cold water, the TV died, the door was difficult to open and the phone didn't work but Damon quickly handled most of those items. Yes, the parking is challenging but the value and location of this hotel is worth it. There are some homeless in the area - like all cities but we never felt unsafe and we are 2 sisters in our 70's. If you have to have a 5 star hotel, this is not for you. As advertised, it is a no frills property but it's a gem and I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

I always like my stay here at the Castle Inn. Whether it's for work or entertainment night. The Inn is conveniently located, super clean and neat, free parking and a reasonable rate. The rooms have refrigerators and microwave and there are stores within walking distance to buy groceries. The beds have thick firm mattresses and are comfortable. If you want a place to stay that is budget friendly, great location, and super clean with comfortable beds this is the place.

Had planned to come here in the summer of 2020 and picked this hotel because of the close proximity to everything we wanted to see, safe area, the free breakfast and free parking. Had to cancel because of the pandemic and finally came in Aug 2021. Disappointed they stopped the free breakfast, but very happy with our stay!

Very clean and updated with a modern look (except for the carpet), close to lots of restaurants to walk to, and great customer service. Our toilet seat was a little loose, but they came right away and tightened it for us. Free parking was a big plus and took away the stress of finding parking in the city and/or paying an arm and a leg – may be a bit tight for larger cars, but as long as you park within the lines you’re good.

Includes fridge, microwave, coffee, TV and free wifi, which was surprisingly pretty strong. 2 Queen beds for our family of 4.

Highly recommend for the location, price and amenities. Thank you Castle Inn for giving us a great place for a great price to relax after long days of walking around San Francisco!

We really enjoyed our overnight stay at Castle Inn. We had a budget of $100/night thru our company and were able to score a 2 queen bed room for $103 total, thanks to the AAA discount the clerk was nice enough to ask me about and apply. She was kind and pleasant.
This hotel offers free parking, which is a luxury in the heart of San Fran. Not to mention, it had an elevator so no schlepping everything up stairs.
The room was comfy, and the shower felt great. It got instantly warm and had great flow.
We were also happy about the conveniently located ice maker.
Great place and super bargain for all that you get.

We weren't sure what to expect from the Castle Inn, but were pleasantly surprised!
Both of our adjoining rooms were recently renovated with new laminate flooring, comfortable beds, updated fixtures and new bathrooms.
Parking is available, but a bit tight - no problem with a compact rental car.
Location was OK - Polk street has quite a few restaurants to choose from.

The Castle Inn is well located in the northwest most corner of Nob Hill, reasonably priced, and adjacent to Polk Street, one of the cities popular "eat streets." The rooms are not large, but they are clean, the beds comfortable, and our needs were more than adequately met. There is off street parking, although the parking area is tight. Despite the open-terrace on three floors, we never felt insecure secure. We would not hesitate to come back.

This might be a family owned hotel. The staff we met were very accommodating, even with some mild restrictions still in place.

The hotel was clean, comfortable and had many walking options for drinks and great food in the neighborhood.

The lower garage is a bit tight if you have a larger vehicle, yet worked well for us and is included in the room cost.

Breakfast not included, yet a few close options (deli, cheese place and crepes) are all near by. The staff will gladly help with recommendations if asked.

If looking to be in the area, It was a great stay, especially for the cost.

The Castle Inn is a very basic accommodation but if you looking for value for you money this Inn fits the bill. It had large spaces, was very clean, had comfortable beds, located off Polk it is well located for eady walks. Parking included is a bonus and the parking area was tidy, with good spacing between vehicles. There was a bit off traffic noise but nothing unusual for a city hotel.

I was with my two teenaged granddaughters and they slept in one bed and I in the other. I think you could manage it. But it would be best to ask at the hotel.

I didn't notice one and it's not mentioned on their website so I'm assuming this is not an amenity that they offer.
