Certificate of Excellence
What is Certificate of Excellence?
TripAdvisor gives a Certificate of Excellence to accommodations, attractions and restaurants that consistently earn great reviews from travellers.
I found the Griffon to be an excellent hotel that offers reasonable rates and close proximity to BART and the Embarcadero area. The rooms are small but given I spend very little time awake in my hotel room when I am traveling, the size did...More
I have stayed at the Hotel Griffon four times, and I have found them to be an excellent place to stay. The location is excellent if you need to be close to the Financial District, and their service is very good. They are very responsive...More
Always comfortable with friendly, helpful staff. Perry's located onsite is a bonus. Close, convenient and within walking distance for SF Giants games, Ferry Building and other activities. There is also a YMCA on the same block for workouts.
We had a 4 night stay in San Francisco with two nights at this hotel and two nights at one in Union Square. We stayed at Hotel Griffon the last two nights. From the minute we entered the hotel it was a better experience than...More
A tiny room, with no natural light, a view on a wall situated at 30 centimeters.
Hair in the shower at the arrival...
We expect much more for this price, even in the Financial district. I will never come back in this hotel.More

Dear Takfarinas,
I am so sorry to hear that we failed to your exceed your expectations. While it is always nice to hear wonderful accolades, it is the constructive comments such as yours that help us to improve. I will certainly address the shower issue...More
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighbourhood home. Most of its freeway-sized

It was a little bit confusing because when I first went there I checked their website and it sounded like there would be parking available, as if you could get a pass with your room(?) but when I arrived I as informed that the only option the hotel offered was a valet service that seemed very expensive (to me). However there was overnight street parking available--possibly not the best choice, as long as you were prepared to move the vehicle before 8 AM. A friend had lent me their car, and so that worked quite well for me. It is definitely a consideration (the associated price of parking), but generally I take an Uber to and from the airport and use the MUNI or CalTrain public transit if I need to, but typically I walk everywhere on these business trips. YMMV
